ROCK, POP AND PSYCHEDELIC
SAMAMIDON- ALL IS WELL LP (bedroom community, iceland)
15.98usd/8.12gbp/10.87eur/1705jpy (approx)
*Valgeir Sigurðsson's Bedroom Community label welcomes the second release from U.S. newcomer, Sam Amidon. At Sigurðsson's state-of-the-art Greenhouse Studios, Sam was left to concentrate on his intuitive interpretations of age-old folk-songs, a skill on which he proves himself to be a unique talent, drawing simultaneously on his experiences growing up a child of folk musicians in Vermont, and his more recent work in New York with the experimental indie-rock bands Doveman and Stars Like Fleas. From the opening notes of the first track, "Sugar Baby," it's as clear that All Is Well is a different album from his previous offerings, and by the album centerpiece, the wistfully poignant "Saro," it's obvious that this album is very special, indeed. With horns erupting and dissipating around the listener, Amidon's trademark delivery is perfectly offset by the tenderly plucked notes of his six-string. Nico Muhly's orchestration is not the only addition to Amidon's barrel of sounds. A dizzying amalgam of trombone, Eyvind Kang's ghostly viola, and processed percussion convert a children's singing game from the Georgia Sea Islands into the ominous ambiguity of "Little Johnny Brown." The distinctive bass of Ben Frost is evident on the pensive "Fall On My Knees," while subtle layers of electronics add an intrinsically modern aspect to the proceedings. Couple this with Sigurðsson's production wizardry and you'll realize that despite links to the Appalachian folk music of the past, All Is Well is an album that could only exist in the present. One of the unquestionable triumphs of All Is Well is its diversity. From introspective ballads of jealousy such as "Wild Bill Jones" to upbeat barn-dancing ditties such as "Little Satchel," the structure of the album is paramount in making everything work so naturally. Sam leaves the listener with a feeling of resolution parallel to that of a keen reader thumbing the last page of a favorite novel. He sings of death's spindly fingers finding him, a prospect he handles with no trepidation -- for he has Muhly's flourishing string arrangements to give him courage and form a stable bed for his tender lyricisms. In the length of an album, Amidon has struggled through gunfights, paternal tensions, religious guilt and the lonely life of a nomad, but he leaves us with the message that "all is well"; a defining statement that is bound to warm the hearts of even the coldest gun-slinger.
BEN FROST- THEORY OF MACHINES LP (bedroom community, iceland)
15.98usd/8.12gbp/10.87eur/1705jpy (approx)
*restocked… Limited edition vinyl version, one-time pressing. This is Reykjavik-based composer/producer Ben Frost's first release for the Icelandic Bedroom Community label. From the ominous darkness and intensity of its opening moments, one might expect a death metal album to break out in an instant, but Theory of Machines is an album whose design is as symphonic as it is confrontational -- the tempo doesn't pick up, no hooks or vocals arrive, and when the drums finally kick in, they're as fragmented and corroded as they could possibly be and still resemble a groove. On Theory of Machines, Ben Frost exploits every extreme of pitch, volume and timbre, the changes in this music sometimes seem as gradual as changes in the weather -- and sometimes as violent. As the music changes it changes only in texture, color and intensity so that the sense is not of something being created, altered or even developed, but of something already present being slowly illuminated.
SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE- SHELTER FROM THE ASH LP (drag city, usa) 16.98usd/8.63gbp/11.55eur/1812jpy (approx)
*restocked… Shelter From The Ash features a most fluid combination of electric and acoustic Six Organs of Admittance styles. Chasny went into the studio with the songs both in his mind and also demoed out, a different way of working than in previous sessions. Sure, improvisations were still a big part of the sound; within the song structures, they create dynamic sparks from the other side of the inspiration. Additionally (if you must know), standard tuning played a part for the first time in history -- but don't worry, this doesn't mean that Six Organs of Admittance has come in from the drone-storm -- far from it! The man who was once 'Torn By Wolves' in an unknown key is now 'Coming To Get You,' no matter what it takes -- with a tuning any man could play, but few would use as he does. The session was conducted in the glamorous confines of San Francisco's Louder Studios, where so many bands have had their hard and heavy essence redefined. Six Organs of Admittance was no exception. Additionally, the session featured such luminaries as The Magik Markers' Elisa Ambrogio, The Fucking Champs' Tim Green and Chasny's Comets On Fire bandmate Noel Harmonson and gadabout-to-the-stars Matt Sweeney pitching in. Six Organs of Admittance has been a collaborative ground in the past, and what happened here is what always happens: an organic oneness, a record very comfortable in its many skins.
SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE- SCHOOL OF THE FLOWER LP (drag city, usa) 14.98usd/7.61gbp/10.19eur/1598jpy (approx)
*restocked… This is the first Six Organs of Admittance record to be recorded in a studio. No computers were harmed (or used) during the making of this record. Free-jazz sensation Chris Corsano contributes drums with the greatest sympathy. It's a fantastic new album, as just a fraction of a listen will reveal. The highly prolific Six Organs of Admittance returns with a sixth or seventh album, School of the Flower.
PEARLS AND BRASS- THE INDIAN TOWER LP (drag city, usa) 14.98usd/7.61gbp/10.19eur/1598jpy (approx)
*restocked… 'Power Trio.' Say the phrase to any long-hair since its conception some 40 years ago and they'll immediately know what to expect. Blistering leads, power-house drumming, heavy bass lines and bluesy vocals. Sounds like a formula, yes? Well, it is. Many have stepped up to the plate, attempting to make their 1+1+1=3 but few dare be mentioned in the same breath as legends like the Groundhogs, Grand Funk, Sleep, Sir Lord Baltimore and the almighty Cream. But who among us will take this hard rock to a new place? Enter Josh, Joel and Randy: three young dudes from the woods of Nazareth PA. They've been playing together for half their lifetime -- thirteen years -- and clearly, they've done their homework. Burned one-too-many while listening to endless amounts of Randy (both Holden AND California). Learned every song by anyone with 'Blind' or 'Mississippi' in their name. Essentially leaving them each with degrees in Cactology and a Masters in Riff-ality.
RANDALL OF NAZARETH- RANDALL OF NAZARETH LP (drag city, usa) 16.98usd/8.63gbp/11.55eur/1812jpy (approx)
*restocked… The connection between Randall and his mother band is evident from the kickoff track, 'Safety in the Sand,' which rolls like a rock group named Pearls and Brass, but with the rhythm section mysteriously disappeared and an acoustic guitar replacing the galloping electric. As different time signatures and tempos drift in through the performances, the preferred mode of expression remains acoustic, to haunting effect. Randall of Nazareth's take on the folk blues canon is expert, informed by the deities of the 19th and 20th centuries, but idiosyncratically his own. Picking and groaning, Randall streamlines the performances with discreet touches: jingling bells sweeping through 'Climbing Trees,' a chorus of harmony voices in the distance in 'It's Nice to Know,' extra licks on the guitar or vocal here and there. There's an inherent joy in the playing and the realization of these odd moments -- which is good, because there's a numbed loneliness to Randall of Nazareth that the song 'Ballad Of A Sorry, Lonely, Breaking Man,' (with the lyric couplet 'my closest friend and I can't bear to hear your name/I should pack my things and go back from where I came') doesn't begin to touch. Randall of Nazareth sees the world from the bottom of a glass, with the floor falling away to expose an underworld of aching soul. Gritty, arid, timeless... this is music that evokes squalor with elegance, evoking midnight at noon with all mysteries intact and growing quietly more intense with the years. Randall of Nazareth is Randy of Pearls and Brass.
BABY DEE- SAFE INSIDE THE DAY LP (drag city, usa) 14.98usd/7.61gbp/10.19eur/1598jpy (approx)
*I was born in Cleveland, Ohio. This album is very much about the street I grew up on. Where The Earlie King ruled without mercy. And Bobby Slot and Freddy Weiss invented the Dance of Diminishing Possibilities. I left for New York in 1972 and eventually became a musician. I was good at the sacred and I was good at the profane but I could never get the hang of anything in between and I went from the street to the church to the street again and then I stopped. I found myself back in Cleveland and began to write songs. And then I stopped writing songs. I thought I had said everything I had to say and there was nothing left to say, so I simply stopped. And then I remembered Bobby Slot and Freddy Weiss and my own father and all the little ghosts that lived with us and I realized that there was something left to say after all. The inside is bigger than the outside, more important, and less destructible. 'Many mansions' and all that. Kingdom of god. I love everybody. --Dee
MAJOR STARS- MIRROR/MESSENGER LP (drag city, usa) 16.98usd/8.63gbp/11.55eur/1812jpy (approx)
*restocked… Now giant-size and louder than ever, Major Stars plunge further down the path of their second, larger life with Mirror/Messenger. Their new sextet record features the same triple-guitar frontline and fervid vocalizations from Sandra Barrett as did 2006's Syntoptikon -- but with more songs then ever before found on a single Major Stars album (as many as two albums, in several cases). Mirror/Messenger is an assault on popular music, with considerable muscle exerted to create a jukebox-ready duck-and-shuffle -- if the needle don't get tossed out the groove, that is. From their Massachusetts aerie, Major Stars have rocked the world six albums over during the past decade. On this, their sixth album, the signature guitar union of Wayne Rogers and Kate Village (first immortalized in Crystalized Movements and later in Magic Hour) is further emboldened by Tom Leonard, whose prior tenure as Major Stars bassist ensures that he knows of what Major Stars rock. Sandra Barrett's lead wail gives every song an unshakable foundation from which the screaming solos depart with fearless frequencies. If the new sound of Major Stars sound is wider and more vivid than known, it's because this time, there's twenty-four tracks of rockness blaring at you through the mix. Plus, the relatively new lineup have an album, a tour and another year of life under their belt. And ultimately, ten years have done nothing to mellow Major Stars, for which they must be congratulated. The devious interweaving of the psychedelic with the rock is, as ever, a delight, to consistent yet somehow changed ends. They keep the craft surging forward, maintaining sufficient heat to ensure that nothing gathers on them as they beat it down the line.
BRIGITTE BARDOT- SINGS LP (lilith, russian federation) 23.98usd/12.19gbp/16.31eur/2559jpy (approx)
*restocked…By the time this album was released in the U.S., the 'princess of pout' had already had men flocking to her films for than a decade, hoping for a glimpse of BB in a bikini. Her 1963 vocal debut, featuring Serge Gainsbourg's 'L'Appareil A Sous,' not only added to her sultry allure, but also boosted her pop icon status. Originally released in both a deluxe gatefold edition with a poster, and a standard sleeve, this reissue faithfully reproduces the deluxe U.S. edition, featuring both a gatefold sleeve and a full size poster of the original international sex kitten, Brigitte Bardot. Meow!
MUM- YESTERDAY WAS DRAMATIC, TODAY IS OK 2LP (morr music, germany) 19.98usd/10.15gbp/13.59eur/2132jpy (approx)
*Classic debut Mum album, previously issued by Tugboat & Thule -- available again. "Yesterday Was Dramatic - Today is OK was mostly recorded in a tiny, sweaty room in the summer of 1999 with carpenters banging nails around us, but sometimes we put on headphones so we couldn't hear them. It was originally released on an Icelandic label called Thule, but early on a number of disputes came up, which ended up dragging on for many years. Part of the attraction of the album is its mixture of analogue instruments such as harmonica, accordion and glockenspiel with digital clicks and cuts. But what makes it so beautiful is that at no point this combination feels constructed or forced. While listening to Yesterday Was Dramatic - Today is OK you don't care how it was made you're just enjoying that it exists. Double lp version, deluxe gatefold sleeve.
SEABEAR- THE GHOST THAT CARRIED US AWAY LP (morr music, germany) 16.98usd/8.63gbp/11.55eur/1812jpy (approx)
*shop favorite restocked… This is the debut release by Iceland's Seabear. The Ghost That Carried Us Away flatters in a rather unobtrusive way: fragile hymns of nonchalant casualness, created by the 24-year-old Sindri Már Sigfússon. Guitars, piano, his almost bashful and yet present voice -- themes of nature, mortality and love from Iceland's musical heartland, Reykjavik. There's a violinist with her voice in the clouds, Gudbjörg Hlin Gudmundsdóttir (violin, vocals, harmonica) and Orn (guitar, lapsteel). Other members include Eiki, Orvar, Gudni and Dóri: one plays the flugelhorn, the slide-guitar and upright-bass, one belongs to the live line-up of Sigur Rós and another is part of the sensational Múm. Some are stage members of Benni Hemm Hemm's band -- the other Icelandic artist on Morr music. Sigfusson invited them into his small studio, placed them in front of the only microphone and let them think about his musical thoughts. He likes the notion and the feeling of lo-fi, and for the recording of the drums, only three microphones were used. The result is reminiscent of the reduced stereo recordings of the 1960s. "Libraries" is tiny and gigantic, unobtrusive and exciting at the same time -- a song like blinking into the most beautiful sunrise. A tumbling piano, swinging drums and melancholy melodies. "Hands Remember" includes murmuring vocals and two violins. In "Summer Bird Diamond," birds twitter to the sounds of an old banjo and glockenspiel. It is almost like a chamber folk radio play. And "Seashell" at last, is a pocket symphony, arranged around jumping drums.
SIC ALPS- THE SOFT TOUR IN ROUGH FORM LP (my. st. mtn., usa) 11.98usd/6.09gbp/8.15eur/1278jpy (approx)
*shop favorite restocked… Harrowing, beautiful, grime-soaked melodics from two sick pop masterminds, the Sic Alps are Mike Donovan (Big Techno Werewolves, Ropers, Sounds Of The Barbary Coast) and Matt Hartman (Coachwhips, Cat Power, Henry's Dress). Sic Alps were formed in San Francisco, CA in 2004 by Mike and Adam Stonehouse of the infamous Hospitals. Before the original line-up would implode/explode after a handful of shows and limited releases, the Sic Alps would enlist second drummer Bianca Sparta (Erase Errata) to help record Pleasures and Treasures -- the psychedelic masterpiece recorded in a remote location in Mendecino, CA which was recently released on Animal Disguise.

SIR RICHARD BISHOP- POLYTHEISTIC FRAGMENTS LP (drag city, usa) 14.98usd/7.61gbp/10.19eur/1598jpy (approx)
*restocked… It goes without saying that Polytheistic Fragments is an instrumental release -- who among us would want it otherwise? In the tradition of his classic debut, Salvador Kali, this new record features equal amounts of improvisation and composition. Sir Richard's powers lie in his ability to captivate with just the sound of his guitar, but he doesn't completely abandon studio processes, which allow Polytheistic Fragments to communicate a greater wholeness: all Sir Rick, all the time, if you will. We have come to expect a few solo acoustic guitar pieces with the gypsy stylings of his hero, Django Reinhardt -- and as if to tenderize our consciousness and prepare it for the ride, 'Cross My Palm with Silver' meets and exceeds our expectations. 'Rub 'Al Khali' is an ode to the oud, a northern African lute of sorts. On 'Free Masonic Guitar,' Sir Richard manifests free form acoustic playing wholly in his own style. Peppering the mix are the sounds of electric guitar and lap steel guitar, bringing contrast and color. 'Hecate's Dream' is a dreamy praise to a dark Greek Goddess, but 'Tennessee Porch Swing' and 'Canned Goods and Firearms' switch gears to good old down home Americana and country twang. Sir Richard is renowned for his prowess and mastery with the guitar, but the piano playing on Polytheistic Fragments shows a fluid, meditative style. 'Saraswati' is a lengthy river piece bathed in Hindustani serenity, while 'Cemetery Games' is a short celebratory skeletal dance, with more light-heartedness than spook. In a record with so many spirits, Bishop fills in the space where necessary and rounds out the feeling with catchy tunes such as 'Elysium Number Five' and 'Ecstasies in the Open Air.' Polytheistic Fragments shows that the divinely inspired Sir Richard Bishop cannot be contained in one form.
SIR RICHARD BISHOP- WHILE MY GUITAR VIOLENTLY BLEEDS LP (locust, usa) 24.98usd/12.69gbp/16.99eur/2666jpy (approx)
*restocked… This is an essential document by one of America's most original and inventive unaccompanied guitarists working today. While My Guitar Violently Bleeds is a splendid three piece gem in which the good sir branches out & nods to points West, East & otherworldly with the classic spaghetti western-tinged, spidery fretwork of 'Zurvan,' to the Fushitsusha style psych decay & feedback drench of 'Smashana' to the brilliant 25+ minute raga epic 'Mahavidya.' second pressing on red vinyl.
GAZHEART- GAZHEART LP (locust, usa)
22.98usd/11.68gbp/15.63eur/2452jpy (approx)
*With GazHeart, celebrated visual artist Rita Ackermann (voice) & the No Neck Blues Band's Dave Nuss (found percussion) created a playful spontaneous sound that seemingly bridged the gap between the broken pop sounds of certain strains of the no wave movement, sound poetry and catchy, otherworldly art folk using the barest of resources available to them. The GazHeart recordings were made in August of 2004 after the disintegration of Angelblood at ATP in April. Rita and I traveled every August to Budapest to be with her family, who live in the hills outside the city in a small German village called Budaörs, created after WWII. The mise-en-scene of our life there was total village simplicity -- grandma's cooking, dogs running the streets, babies with leaky diapers on big wheels, and gypsies hanging out in bars. We would go every Sunday morning to the gypsy market where the vendors would spread out a bunch of garbage on blankets in a parking lot, all the proprietors drunk by 10am on wine consumed from coke bottles. At the time of recording, Rita had adopted the surrealist idea of automatic, unmediated writing direct from the unconscious, using spontaneous text to create song-like atmospheres, in the spirit of Tristan Tzara. For the percussion, I wound up keeping it simple and true to the environs: a bucket, a glass jar, a coffee can & a straw broom. All recordings were made to magnetic tape in the back yard late at night after the village was sleeping.' --Dave Nuss. One time pressing of this special edition one-sided LP features an original etching by visual artist Rita Ackermann on the flip side. GazHeart is housed in a plain jacket with two opposing drawings for front & back by Ackermann reproduced on high quality archival paper stock.
HENRY FLYNT & NOVA'BILLY- NOVA'BILLY 2LP (locust, usa)
27.98usd/14.22gbp/19.03eur/2986jpy (approx)
*restocked… Double lp version, deluxe gatefold packaging. Taste the magic! Nova'Billy is another edible audible from Henry Flynt's dusty lower Manhattan bunker and it stands as one of the fullest, most beauteous document of Flynt's tenure with a full working rock band to date. For less than one calendar year between 1974 and 1975, Henry Flynt's hard driving, heavy jamming agit country rock band, Nova'Billy embraced bareknuckled deep fried groove attacks, bearded hippie jam band workouts & a monstrous melange of blues, boogie and free jazz squeal into a musical soufflé that could only have come together with Flynt cooking up what was proven to be, time and again, an impossible vision within the confines of the SOHO art orbit of the '70s. After a couple performances at Anthology Film Archives and studio sessions in Richmond, Virginia and Manhattan, the band postered SOHO in a last ditch effort to get some traction with the hipsters that read, 'Party on down to the Kitchen. Stoned country music for rock country.' The gig, like all the others before it, was poorly attended. Nova'Billy played what would be their last live gig at the Kitchen on June 27, 1975. Nova'Billy covers a damned fine and important moment in Henry Flynt's musical career. If the Insurrections laid the foundation for his anti-war primitive garage rock sound, the emergence, nearly a decade later, of Nova'Billy is the realization of Henry's own vision of obtuse personal politics ('I was a creep'), provocative leftwing posturing (check their version of the world Communist anthem, 'The International!') and a gleefully recombinant spin on southern music. Thirteen cuts and 60 minutes of old glory!
PAUL METZGER- DELIVERANCE LP (locust, usa)
20.98usd/10.66gbp/14.27eur/2239jpy (approx)
*restocked… lp version, deluxe gatefold sleeve. Minnesota's Paul Metzger is an unsung hero of the unaccompanied string instrument and a master musician of an instrument of his own invention. On Deliverance -- a real time performance on his overhauled 21-string banjo -- you'll be treated to some of the most deeply satisfying & impulsive outer cosmos ragadelia you're ever likely to hear. Clocking in at nearly 60 colossal minutes, Deliverance is 3 tracks of unfiltered aural transcendence; a hypnotic raga epic that's by turns a slow-burning meditation & an urgent mind/body duel. Paul's playing may summon up the spirits of Sandy Bull's searching inventiveness, Billy Faier's out Tacoma sides, J.P. Pickens' tweaked Americana, Henry Flynt's searing harmonic drones or Big Jim Sullivan's psychedelic exotica, but at the end of the day, Metzger is no idolater and we're all a little luckier to have him around to occupy his own singular post in this post-Fahey world.

TAKEHISA KOSUGI- CATCH-WAVE CD (world psychedelia, eu)
18.98usd/9.63gbp/12.88eur/2025jpy (approx)
*Takehisa Kosugi is without doubt one of the most important and influential figures of the Japanese avant-garde still performing. Over the years he has worked with everyone from John Cage to Sonic Youth as well as being an active member of the Fluxus group and starting his own performance units Group Ongaku and the Taj Mahal Travellers. His album Catch-Wave, originally released in 1975, features on side A 'an excerpt from a meta-media solo improvisation' utilizing heavily-processed violin, voice, radio and oscillators (the latter modified via wind and light) to create a massive drone. Side B is 'a triple performance by a solo vocalist' where a vocal phrase is taken and electronically modified until it loses any meaning other than as part of the wave form.' Booklet contains biography, and discography for this important avant-garde performer. essential!
FUNK AND SOUL
V/A- MUSIC DEWOLFE VOLUME 1 2LP (megaunderground, usa)
17.98usd/9.14gbp/12.23eur/1919jpy (approx)
*The De Wolfe Music Library (a.k.a. Music De Wolfe) was started in 1909 by Meyer De Wolfe to provide musical scores for silent movies but as the decades passed, the library quickly established a reputation for production music for both TV and radio. In the 70's, De Wolfe demonstrated their uniqueness from their rivals by employing a number of young and enthusiastic British composers, true musical innovators of their time, who all possessed the creativity and ability to experiment with new studio techniques and electronic instruments.
Not surpisingly, music from the De Wolfe vaults has produced ample fodder for DJs, providing funky breaks, wailing horns, groovy strings and the like to many a hip-hop track or club mix. Baltimore’s Jason Willett, who put together this thoroughly enjoyable collection of De Wolfe instrumental funk classics from the sixties and seventies. From the opening salvo of bongos and driving bass on Keith Papworth’s “Hard Hitter” to the screaming horns that close out P. Kass’ “Sweet Destruction,” Music De Wolfe, Volume 1 is a relentless mix of driving beats, joyously swinging jazz, and cinematic funk.
DUBSTEP AND GRIME
MATTY G- WEST COAST ROCKS REMIXES 12” (argon, uk)
11.98usd/6.09gbp/8.15eur/1278jpy (approx)
*restocked… Possibly the most sought-after producer in dubstep right now, Matty G follows up a slew of out and out killers (50,000 Watts, For the Smokers) with another towering production -- 'West Coast Rocks' here offered up with remixes from Caspa and Jeep, aka Matty himself -- don't sleep!
MATTY G/LOEFAH 50,000 WATTS 12” (argon, uk)
11.98usd/6.09gbp/8.15eur/1278jpy (approx)
*restocked… What's so nice about 50,000 Watts is that despite its flagrant use of THAT sample it manages to side-step so much of the formulaic nonesense that's permeated the dubstep scene in recent months. It's a track designed for maximum soundsystem obliteration and fulfills the brief perfectly -- you'll be hard-pressed to find anything nearly as HEAVY in your local dubstep emporium -- and for that fact alone it comes as required listening for all those of you who like playing your tunes far too loud with the bass turned far too heavy for the good of your health. But, of course, there's also that sick Loefah remix on the flipside to think about -- another gargantuan re-fit that somehow manages to mangle the original into a towering structure so frighteneing it makes the original seem like a harmless relative. Shocking stuff and destined to be this year's biggest dubstep twelve -- and rightly so. --Boomkat
HOUSE, TECHNO AND DISCO
BEN KLOCK- OCTOBER 12” (bpitch control, germany)
11.98usd/6.09gbp/8.15eur/1278jpy (approx)

"October" houses a groovy beat that pounds constantly for 9 minutes, until the hi-hats come in to give some relief. "Similarity" features a bass line that slowly purls into the 7-minute long tune. The hi-hat pushes everything forward and forward. This track is a must on every MP3 player while going downhill on icy slopes.

GUY GERBER- LATE BLOOMERS 2LP (cocoon, germany)
21.98usd/11.15gbp/14.91eur/2345jpy (approx)
*shop favorite restocked… This is the double vinyl version of the full-length debut by Israel-born Guy Gerber. Deluxe gatefold packaging. With the first tracks on Late Bloomers, Gerber already makes clear what this is all about. Not only does he mix house, techno and trance like nobody else -- he also produces with accordion sounds and bass lines reminiscent of Queen's "Another One Bites The Dust" without any concern, also showing multiple influences from Carl Craig via Giorgio Moroder to Jean Michel Jarre. In case you meet someone next week who completely missed the last 15 years of club history, just give him this record and within a few moments, he will get a comprehensive impression of what has musically happened on the best four-to-the-floors around the world. We bow in awe.
COUSIN COLE AND POCKETKNIFE- TAMBOURINE DREAM 12” (flamin’ hotz, usa)
7.98usd/4.05gbp/5.41eur/851jpy (approx)
*Flamin’ Hotz going against the proverbial grain with the help of Flagrant Fowl originators Cousin Cole & Pocketknife. The crew throws up six exquisite folk / stroke / house cuts, this time pressed on a limited edition picture disc with Japanese obi strip. Re-edits of John Lennon, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Beirut, Iron & Wine and Joanna Newson are included. Flamin' Hot! -phonica
BIRD PETERSON- PLAYS POPULAR COMPUTER JAMS... 12” (flamin’ hotz, usa)
7.98usd/4.05gbp/5.41eur/851jpy (approx)
*Dope new release from Bird Peterson on Flamin’ Hotz featuring remixes from Baltimore legend / Unruly boss Scottie B and Flagrant Fowl’s Cousin Cole. Regular plays on Radio 1 by Annie Mac. Like autumn leaves being sucked into the hellfire of the cosmos, we present to you Bird Peterson’s Plays... ep. Mr. Peterson, or Texas-based Andrew Hoke, has one goal in his lifetime. This goal, which we won’t mention until the end, is carried in a diamond-crusted flintcraw that sits in the passenger seat of Mr. Peterson’s Ship Of Hot Jams. He guards this bag with a cloak made of wishes and peppermints. And he has a jet. Boat. He has a jetboat. In conclusion, Bird Peterson’s goal (the one we mentioned earlier) is coming true for everyone that listens to his hot dancefloor masterpeices. Are you ready to be a part of the magic? Are you ready to harness the power of the wizard’s touch? Are you capable of fusing together energy and will? Are you going to run through the hallway of your office, ripping you -phonica
TODOSANTOS- ACID GIRLZZZ 12” (flamin’ hotz, usa)
7.98usd/4.05gbp/5.41eur/851jpy (approx)

DWIZZ- PARTY MUSIC 12” (flamin’ hotz, usa)
7.98usd/4.05gbp/5.41eur/851jpy (approx)
*Flaminhotz 005 sees the release of Dwizz straight from South Philadelphia High School. When not banging heads on the football field he’s banging beats out of his bedroom. Juke meets Baltimore at 140 BPMs that gets all the kids wu tanging at every block party and birthday party.
JAMES MOWBRAY & D. RAMIREZ- TIME FADES AWAY 12” (four:twenty, uk)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.81eur/1385jpy (approx)
*Four:Twenty round off another impressive year with this final collaboration between D. Ramirez and James Mowbray, Time Fades Away. 'Time Fades Away' sees the pair combine vocals, mind-bending synth work and the phenomenal production Ramirez is known for with Mowbray's trademark tight grooves and more restrained approach to create a dancefloor bomb. As always with Four:Twenty, the choice of remixer is impeccable and this time we're treated to Leipzig-based Daniel Stefanik. Known for his dub-infused deep house and techno on Moon Harbour, Liebe*Detail and his own Cargo Edition, Stefanik has turned in a stunning mix and dub for the deeper floors. Detroit meets Germany via Chicago sums it up nicely!
KHAN- WHO NEVER RESTS REMIXED VOL.1 12” (i’m single, germany)
11.98usd/6.09gbp/8.15eur/1278jpy (approx)
*Can 'Khan' Oral, the international all-genre performer and 'man who never rests' visionary launches his new project I'm Single, a 12" record label as a new platform for him and his worldwide network of musicians and friends. Khan, renowned for his standing between the worlds of electronic and classic songwriting, glamour and deconstruction, ecstasy and quality plans with I'm Single to support his artistic vision with originality and creativity that will continue his goal of tearing down the walls of mono-culture and single style approach standardization in the world of music. The path of I'm Single is not a trend or artistic turn that Khan has just picked up on. His roots in the first techno generation on labels like Force Inc./Mille Plateux, Harvest EMI, Matador Record, Smile Communications or Cologne LIQUID SKY/KOMPAKT confirm his artist credibility in creating cult classics. In the early '90s, Khan moved with Jimi Tenor to New York, creating multiple 12"s and projects, i.e. Bizz O.D., El Turco Loco, 4E, Kid & Khan. Various album projects with Jon Spencer, Julee Cruise, Brigitte Fontaine and the opera diva/performance artist Diamanda Galas, naming just a few of the various directions and influences that have shaped the man 'who never rests.' The I'm Single debut 12" is comprised of exclusive remixes out of Khan's last studio album Who Never Rests on Tomlab. DJ Kaos famous for remixing !!! and Roxy Music has produced a German 'Kraut-trance' pop version of 'On The Run.' Fabian Stall, also known as Zero Cash (Television Rocks, Aggro Colgne), is represented with a flaming down-beat ballad of 'Favor After Favor.' Also, the techno snob Dirk Leyers presents a cryptic dark dance club track, 'You Like To Party?'
JUSTUS KÖHNCKE- SAFE AND SOUND PART 1 12” (kompakt, germany)

*new release from tsr’s fave teutonic male vocalist… 12" vinyl version. Part 1 of 2.
SCARY GRANT- STRAWBERRIES 12” (lo-fi stereo, germany)
11.98usd/6.09gbp/8.15eur/1278jpy (approx)
*After his Lo-Fi Stereo debut, Scary Grant got feedback from names like Ricardo Villalobos, Sven Väth, Loco Dice and even house heroes like George Morell played his release Crash/Almost Crash and set floors on fire with it. All in the same year, Lo-Fi Stereo released the still striking Housemusic/State Of Mind by Motorcitysoul and the Sinistra/Destra Detroit-homage by Paulussen & Cali. A good year that was unexpectedly interrupted by cutting problems with Scary Grant's follow-up 12" and a serious computer-crash in the Lo-Fi Stereo studios (by the way: thanks to Apple!). We are back to business now with this long overdue Scary Grant release that features an amazing Alfa Romero remix (by Eclat & Prudo) and a house remix by Scary Grant himself. This will continue where Crash/Almost Crash ended and burned floors with its minimal house vibe. Insane 'Strawberry' vocal samples, a driving ping-pong beat and an acid bass line makes this release a sure shot alongside house and minimal house DJs. A designated follow-up and a winner and last but not least a complete minimal house package by the current football World Cup winners nation: Italy! Mile grazie amici!
BRIAN HARDEN- INSTINCTIVE STATE 2LP (moods and grooves, usa)
13.98usd/7.09gbp/9.49eur/1492jpy (approx)
*Brian Harden is one of todays rising stars from Detroit, Moods and Grooves finally deliver his much anticipated debut album. With production credited to Brian and Mike Grant (Detroit Beatdown, and one of Detroit’s hottest producers) you know the music is going to be high class. Opening with the sublime ‘Missing You’ the album hits a high point straight away, piano and vocal go together to create a smooth opener that could have been produced anytime in the last 10 years, timeless, not dated. Next check ‘Zion’ for a bit of Roy Ayers vibes over a tight house beat giving a proper late night feel to the track, lush. And for some new school Detroit action check ‘Crazy Talk’, probably the best and deepest track on the album, almost Vladislav Delay noises over deep, deep beats, a real house cut for 2003. Detroit upholds its reputation to the max, smooth. --boomkat
YAPACC- N!CE 12” (neutonmusic, germany)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.81eur/1385jpy (approx)
*It's been a busy year for Yapacc. He released a handful of quality releases on Wir, The Green Empire and LessIzMore, remixed Dole & Kom, German pop-duo 2Raumwohnung, co-produced three releases with Good Groove, the studio wizard is also working currently on his very first solo debut. Ex-Repeat Repeat member, Mark Rutherford, shows his first solo work under his Object Object moniker, and proves easily why Andrew Weatherall calls himself a fan. This is a dark, somehow trippy, much weirder (and faster) version of the original -- which reminds us of submarine raves from back in the late 1950s.
YAPACC- BOUTIQUE MINIMAL 12” (neutonmusic, germany)
11.98usd/6.09gbp/8.15eur/1278jpy (approx)
*restocked… With Boutique Minimal, Yapacc, who releases on Treibstoff, Multicolor and on Perlon under the Narcotic Syntax moniker (with James Dean Brown), is having his follow up on Neutonmusic. The A-side is a twisted but soulful minimal piece which features Swiss poem artist Bettie Synclair on the vocals. This is a slow building 9-minute take on current minimal techno with warped funk. On the B-side, 3 Channels (Crosstown Rebels, Trapez) from Poland re-interpreted the track into a more ravish version, with quantized drums and beats, bleeps, vocal snippets and sharp hand-claps. We think this is one of the best pieces of work they've produced in the past few months.
RALPH SLIWINSKI- BOUTIQUE ORANGE 12” (num, germany)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.81eur/1385jpy (approx)
*Ralph Sliwinski has been producing electronic music since he first got his hands on a Commodore 64 in 1990. A fan of powerful electronic groups such as Visage, Soft Cell and Front 242 as a teenager, Ralph has since gone on to release a number of important records on labels as diverse as Hartchef Discos, Below Records and Morris Audio. With a sound spectrum that ranges from deep house and tribal tech-house to straight up techno, all of Ralph's productions are distinctively endowed with an infectious dancefloor appeal. No less on A-side 'Boutique Orange,' where a central throbbing percussion is submerged in a swampy ambience, enlivened by insectoid hisses and rattles. A subtle climb is fueled by a beat of evolving complexity and ever-intensifying synth pads. The B-side 'Less Varayd' is defined by an ever transforming hypnotic shuffled beat and argumentative samples that become more clear as the track progresses. An echoed metallic tone polices proceedings, releasing tension just when the mix threatens to boil over.
MARCEL FENGLER- PLAYGROUND/EARLY GLOW 12” (ostgut, germany)
11.98usd/6.09gbp/8.15eur/1278jpy (approx)
*Marcel Fengler is a resident DJ at Berghain, and Playground/Early Glow can be looked at as the result of a two-year testing phase of sonic possibilities available to him. "Playground" is peak-time techno with a metallic scraping noise, refined percussion and a huge kick. "Early Glow" is meant to be played in the early morning hours, as a carpet of fragmented chords with pads rush in and out, developing the sort of rhythmic hypnosis which Berlin crowds have learned to love so much. These tracks are classic Morse codes from the depths of club space.
CLOUD ONE- ATMOSPHERE STRUT LP (pap, usa)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.81eur/1385jpy (approx)
*restocked… Re-issue of this wonderful Patrick Adams and Peter Brown produced album with it’s unique, influential mixture of epic, spaced out, jazz-funk drenched disco. Sampled a million times, this is a true classic from '76! Essential.
CARESS- CARESS LP (pap, usa)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.81eur/1385jpy (approx)
*restocked… Another soul gem from the Peter Brown/Patrick Adams camp, it's Caress with their self titled debut record. Originally released in 1977 on the PAP label, Caress was the brainchild of super producer Patrick Adams. Incredibly soulful lush string and horn arrangements give Caress a very mellow laid back sound. Standout tracks include "Opportunity", "Lies, Lies, Lies", and the mellow funky "I Can't Let You Walk Away". Caress is a must for the modern soul/disco lover.
MARTA ACUNA- DANCE, DANCE, DANCE 12” (pap, usa)
9.98usd/5.06gbp/6.77eur/1065jpy (approx)

*restocked… p&p records! Dennis Mobley’s I’ll Do Anything For Love is a stompin soul disco classic that is guaranteed to give you that warm fuzzy feeling inside. The B-side is a beat heavy, cover of Stevie Wonder’s classic Superstition with crazy, spaced-out key antics.

MARCO PASSARANI- STATOSTASI 12” (pigna, italy)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.81eur/1385jpy (approx)
*The new Pigna season starts with the return of Marco Passarani. Marco is the man behind the Final Frontier collective, and it has been a while since his last release on one of his own labels. His last work was out on Peacefrog, and this gave him a boost, getting him a higher level profile. The two tracks 'Statostasi' and 'Nova' both represent the new direction Marco is moving in, somehow closer to a deeper and essential soulful house style, but still very groovy and well-linked to those early Chicago and Detroit flavors he's devoted to. This is the first of an intense release season for mister Passarani. Keep your ears tuned in.
RASMUS HEDLUND- HIDDEN STRUCTURE 12” (resopal schallware, germany)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.81eur/1385jpy (approx)
*Hi folks, just noticed that this is our 50th release. Rasmus Hedlund's first release on Resopal demonstrates his profound grasp of reduced groove with four powerful cuts. 'Hidden Structure' is a classic tribal minimal growler that builds slowly into an outstanding tinged bounce. 'Bentseeni' is a pumping slice of urgent but lush techno-toms, with counterpoint bleeps while 'Betoni' is welcome up-beat techno with quite effective breaks and riffs. The full EP will work on the way up, in peaktime, and on the way down, and it's all-in-all tracky enough and tuneful enough to be a great mixing tool anywhere in the set. Powerful reduced techno for the peaktime.
V/A- DETROIT BEATDOWN VOL. 2 12” (third ear recordings, uk)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.81eur/1385jpy (approx)

DJ MARLEY MARL FEAT. MC SHAN- MOVE LIKE THIS 12” (west end, usa)
9.98usd/5.06gbp/6.77eur/1065jpy (approx)
*As West End Records launches it’s hip-hop imprint West End Urban, hip-hop icons Marley Marl and MC Shan prove once again their formula is built to last with the release of Move Like This. Long before Tribe and Nas were shouting out the borough, these two make the original Queens anthem “The Bridge.” Now an old-school classic, this record put Queens on the map. As a producer, Marley was the first to take drums off of classic records, revolutionizing the technique of sampling and giving his productions a sound far above the tinny sounding drum machines of the time. --boomkat

ROCK, POP AND PSYCHEDELIC
V/A- ASIAN FLASHBACK: UNDERGROUND MUSIC FROM ASIA CD (psf, japan) 20.98usd/10.64gbp/14.28eur/2244jpy (approx)
*Asian underground compilation with 13 groups. Featuring Li Jianhong, Narita Munehiro, Hano Shoji, Mustangs, Kiyasu Orchestra, Mafeisan, 10, Xiao He, D!O!D!O!D!, Sato Yukie, Yoshiteru Koga Jizo, Kim Young Jin, Li Daiguo, Amature Amplifier, Soonie. First PSF compilation to focus on the linkages between the established underground scene in Japan and nascent ones in China and Korea. Politics and history had long prevented exchanges between the three countries, but in recent years increasing trade and cultural linkages have revealed exciting new synergies. Covers the breadth of new East Asian underground forms ? white-out noise, face-peeling free improvisation, lysergic rock, limpid acid folk, electronic tone float, coruscating punk, free jazz and avant-art moves. Features relatively established names like China's king of noise guitar Li-Jianhong and motor-psych free-rock emperor Munehiro Narita, alongside a ton of utter unknown names. -- Alan Cummings.
AHOUSEN- AHOUSEN CD (psf, japan) 20.98usd/10.64gbp/14.28eur/2244jpy (approx)
*Tokyo underground group! Avant-psychedelic. Debut release from the quartet of: Katsu (guitar), Suu (sax, voice), Akira (bass) & Tail (drums). Lunatic avant-free-rock, honed in guerrilla street performance. Debut album from one of the most exciting discoveries from the recent Tokyo Flashback 6 compilation. There's an entrancing sense of moon-kissed lunatic wildness about Ahousen (the group's name means Ship of Fools). Their avant-rock meets free jazz meets enka melancholic sound is entirely their own, a crazed communion with dead voices, honed to blistering perfection in guerrilla performance on the night-time streets of Shinjuku. For those of a genealogical bent, the group has some history. Guitarist Katsu played with original Tokyo Rockers legends Lizard in the seventies. Drummer Tail has played with Suishou no Fune. -- Alan Cummings.
KIM DOO SOO- 10 DAYS BUTTERFLY CD (psf, japan) 20.98usd/10.64gbp/14.28eur/2244jpy (approx)
*Kim Doo Soo is the deepest and most introspective of Korea's acid folk singers. Many are the legends that cling to his songs -- political oppression, alcoholism, suicide, a ten-year period of mountain seclusion. Despite having been active since the mid-'80s and having released four acclaimed albums in Korea, most Western listeners only became aware of him through his tracks on the recent Damon & Naomi compilation, International Sad Hits. On 10 Days Butterfly, his fifth album, he mines productive veins of profound melancholy, animistic nature, and unfathomable, hermetic affection. The whole is couched in a veil of the most gorgeous, still melodicism, Kim's vocals and guitar shaded with subtle accordion, violin, piano, organ and harmonica. A reflective and unearthly beautiful masterpiece. - Alan Cummings
BOBB TRIMBLE- IRON CURTAIN INNOCENCE LP (secretly canadian, usa) 15.98usd/8.10gbp/10.88eur/1709jpy (approx)
*A delicate, unsettling dip into a boiling pool of subconscious imagery and otherworldly pixie vocalism. The best tracks cause ripples in the space/time continuum. Bobb Trimble's first album appeared like a ghost that had slipped through reality's curtain. Impossible to place inside any rational context, the music and voices seem to have been created inside your head and indeed, maybe they were. --Byron Coley.

PUNK AND POST-PUNK
BLACK LIPS- GOOD BAD NOT EVIL LP (die slaughterhaus, usa) 16.98usd/8.61gbp/11.56eur/1816jpy (approx)
*restocked… fifth album produced by the band in their hometown of atlanta at the living room studios aided by the band’s friend ed rawls, a bartender at the nearby drunken unicorn bar, just around the corner from where fellow atlantans outkast work. the album ranges from dirty psychedelic blues songs about holy world war 3 “veni vidi vicci,” outright pop hits like “katrina” (written the night the band found out that the hurricane of the same name had devastated new orleans) and “bad kids” (based around certain band members’ experiences with juvenile detention centers). there’s also the bruised, tender album closer “transcendental light.”
ROMANCE NOVELS- PEGGY SUE 7” (hozoc, usa) 7.98usd/4.05gbp/5.43eur/854jpy (approx)
*Indiana continues to plow through the competition as this follow-up single by the Romance Novels will attest, and with two more heartaching hits of innocence gone frayed with neuroses waiting in the wings, it's a good thing you've got a chance to latch onto it before it's gone. The Romance Novels new platter holds two raggedly real and infectiously classic songs lamenting the passing of time and all the pitfalls and breakdowns of growing up and moving on.
STATIC STATIC- BLACK FINGERS 7” (hozoc, usa) 7.98usd/4.05gbp/5.43eur/854jpy (approx)
*The anxiously awaited follow up to last year's debut single on BabytoothRecords in a micro edition of 100 copies, here's the next double blast of electric paranoid punk crunch & buzzsaw drone-throb done just right by one of the only saving graces of Los Angeles, Static Static. Now with Leslie of the Red Aunts on drums, these two SUICIDE bomb-style tracks deliver surprisingly sparse and demonically danceable hits for the soundtrack to that gothic slaughterhouse you were always afraid to peek into, but now are left without option. Sliding into the same smog punk-layered territory as HoZac heavy hitters VOLT and SPIDER, and recorded with ratchety home equipment under similar circumstances, it's no wonder LA is looking a little brighter today with an accessible record like this, now available for a limited time.
HUE BLANC’S JOYLESS ONES- ARRIERE GARDE LP (s-s, usa) 13.98usd/7.09gbp/9.51eur/1495jpy (approx)
*The Algoma Chamber of Commerce says, “Algoma's current population is approximately 3400. Visitors to Algoma are amazed by the diversity of the options offered to them.” What we have here is the most diverse option that little corner of Wisconsin has to offer: Hue Blanc’s Joyless Ones. The four guys who make up the Ones have a wretchedly fine angle on rock & roll that constantly spellbind the folks at the Captain’s Mistress. “Whose dat sound like?” they ask. The same question comes up when the fellas take the stage at Shanty Days. But editor Lee Lawrenz of the Kewaunee County News knows what’s up. He writes, “You might listen to Hue Blanc’s Joyless Ones and think, ‘That sounds like the Scientists,’ or ‘I think they stole that from the Gibson Bros.’, or ‘That boss sound reminds me Neil Young with a flame in his ass’ and you’d be right and wrong. The Joyless Ones are all that and none of that, too. They are Algoma boys and we are proud of them.” This is Hue Blanc’s third record. Previously they released a 7” on Trick Knee and then a LP on P Trash. We think this one is the best yet. White vinyl. Some of Venice Sun. A smidge of Bloody Nights... A diddle of Fer de Lance.
HOMOSTUPIDS- THE INTERN LP (parts unknown, usa) 11.98usd/6.07gbp/8.15eur/1281jpy (approx)
*After two singles, Cleveland, Ohio's Homostupids give up their debut full length to the Parts Unknown empire. A perturbing stew of full-bore garage spew and psychedelic punkaroo, this disc will be the soundtrack to many losers' bad drug parties for centuries to come.
V/A- MESSTHETICS #104 D.I.Y. '77-81 SOUTH WALES I CD (messthetics, usa) 14.98usd/7.59gbp/10.20eur/1602jpy (approx)
*d.i.y. and (very) indie post-punk from South Wales and the Z-Block scene: '77-81 Messthetics' most obscure collection to date. By the end of 1977, years of music industry neglect (and the abrupt departure for London of the few feckless punks who'd landed record-deals) had left South Wales' fertile ground for D.I.Y. The most basic instrumentation, one-take recordings and black and white graphics ruled the day, so it's no surprise that not one of the records here sold more than 1200 copies. Mindful of these feeble sales, a dozen alumni of Cardiff's Z-Block label (and various mates) gave up releasing records altogether, and busied themselves in a frenzy of increasingly-sophisticated home recording. Here's just the tip of that iceberg -- 23 songs on the CD, plus six bonus MP3 tracks. 24-page booklet, lovingly documented with histories & photos galore, PLUS a 'reunion' appearance of the legendary Great Pop Things rock history comic. Messthetics #104 features (extreme) rarities by Reptile Ranch, Tax Exiles, Immortal Invisibles, Flying Brix, Decadent Few, Ralph & The Ponytails, Czechs, Current Obsessions, What To Wear, Spitfire Boys, Discount Chiefs, Puritan Guitars, Janet & Johns, Crash Action Winners, Addiction, Boywonders, and Hugh Volk. Unreleased recordings by Reptile Ranch [live], the Sane [ex-Dec. Few & Reptile Ranch], Table Table [ex-everyone, including YMG], John Marlon [pre-4AD, ex-Tax Exiles], The Filmstars, and the 12- and 13-year-old splendor of the Autonomes. Plus previously unpublished Moors Murderers tales and Great Pop Things featuring 'Chuck Death' (Jon Langford).
METAL
DEATH- MEETING YOUR ARCHANGEL LP (hell’s headbangers, usa) 23.98usd/12.16gbp/16.32eur/2565jpy (approx)
*Picture Disc in outer jacket with hot metallic foil stamping & exclusive layout for this edition. Comes with heavy-stock lyrics insert & large 18" x 24" poster -no poster for regular LP edition-. Some of the best fucking music out of Denmark since cult Mercyful Fate!! Running wild in nuclear streets over the last 7 years, the band released some underground demos, 7"s and split LPs which now seem like classics from 80-fucking-3. "The Final Assault" is their first & final studio album, a sure lesson in violence... a heavy fucking bulldozer plowing through the wave of newbie friendly trend thrash. This is Rapid Thrashing Violent Speed Metal Hell with an evil edge that cuts like razor!!!!! Face the music, prepare to die!!!
HAVOHEJ- TUNGKAT BLOOD WAND 10” (hell’s headbangers, usa) 17.98usd/9.12gbp/12.24eur/1923jpy (approx)
*All new studio tracks of black boise featuring paul ledney's exclusive signature style of pounding on wooden coffins, rupturing volcanic rumble, and spewing voice vibrations of black vomit. breaking major ground, many have already confessed "tungkat blood wand" to be the most achieved work to date. expect the core structure of havohej evolved into a guaranteed unpleasant listen. your blood shall now spout!
ASBESTOSDEATH- DEJECTION, UNCLEAN 10” (southern lord, usa) 11.98usd/6.07gbp/8.15eur/1281jpy (approx)
*in the late eighties …before the mighty formation of sleep: al cisneros (bass/vocals), chris hakius, and matt pike (guitar) played together (along with thomas choi/guitar) in asbestosdeath. asbestosdeath are the roots of the oak that branched into the massive creation of not only sleep but of course om (al and chris), high on fire (matt) and itisi/operator generator (thomas choi).
asbestosdeath was short-lived and only existed long enough to record 4 songs that were released on 2 separate 7’s. one: “unclean” was self-released by the band, the other: “dejection” was released by profane existence. these recordings are long out of print…buried by time and dust. on the specific request of the band southern lord has been chosen to unearth these recordings and make them available once again!
“unclean, dejection” album contains every asbestosdeath studio recording on one specially priced release. the recordings were carefully mastered from original source material (ie: the vinyl!) by mell dettmer (earth, sunn 0))), altar, etc..)
AVANT GARDE AND NOISE
MAGIK MARKERS- BOSS LP (arbitrary signs, usa) 19.98usd/10.13gbp/13.60eur/2137jpy (approx)
*restocked… Limited vinyl version of the most Magik Markers album -CD is on Ecstatic Peace-, on their very own label Arbitrary Signs. "Recorded in the cavernous dark of Echo Canyon West with producer Lee Ranaldo working the boards like a diviner, BOSS documents the Markers with a previously-unheard fidelity and orchestration. Idiosyncratic song structure and melodies interspersed with a destructive drum stomp are reminiscent of the early electrified blues of Junior Kimbrough, or the black hole rhythms of Kousokuya. In a 2005 interview in The Wire, Elisa Ambrogio said, 'I want [The Magik Markers] to concentrate on music and focus inward, to concentrate on our own language of sound.' boss stands as the Markers' first stab at getting to the meat of this ambition. With a mix of blues simplicity, an almost Sonny Sharrock wailing and a janky Americana punk reminiscent of Pat Place and Roky Erickson, Ambrogio avoids preciousness like a rash. On boss, a tent rises right out of the empty plain and we are thrust into a full-blown revival show with no audience and no lights; it is just Elisa preaching, Pete blowing Gabriel's horn, and the mad wind of the prairie blowing all around. They are each hand-screened individual works of art & very very limited.
YOSHI WADA- LAMENT FOR THE RISE AND FALL OF THE ELEPHANTINE CROCODILE CD (em, japan) 20.98usd/10.64gbp/14.28eur/2244jpy (approx)
*Finally, a CD reissue of Yoshi Wada's most important and most rare LP, Lament For The Rise And Fall Of The Elephantine Crocodile, originally released in 1982 on the India Navigation label. Yoshi Wada is a Japanese sound installation artist and musician -- he moved to New York in the late 1960s, and became well-known as a Fluxus artist with links to La Monte Young, and has been involved in many performances and sound installations. However, he has released only two recordings, which are both hard to find. This CD contains two pieces: track 1 features a solo overtone voice (he studied with legendary Indian vocalist Pandit Pran Nath) recorded at the performance space Dry Pool (literally a dry pool that Wada slept in before this recording), with a deep underground echoing feeling. Track 2 displays Wada's trademark dense psychedelic drones using his "pipe horn," a home-made, bagpipe-like instrument. These wondrous sounds will take you to another, better world. 96khz/24bit digitally remastered complete full-length version (original LP edition was edited). Liner notes in English & Japanese.
PLANTS- PLANTS LP (killer tree, usa) 19.98usd/10.13gbp/13.60eur/2137jpy (approx)
* Not much to remember about 1993 – other than discovering Dead C and several seasons of meeting up with Jeff Dunn and John Olson at 1610 Kalamazoo St in Lansing MI – in the rocket room (upstairs, middle room) and the attempt to fill every floating atom with solid sound. We firstly prepared with weed – from the pipe to the 2 liter gravity bong to the milk jug gravity bong then graduating to the road cone gravity bong. Jeff would play guitar, Olson would play drums, sax, or perhaps guitar, Ramirez usually played guitar but on this session, keyboards and tapes. It would always be a solid blowout, no escape from the sound with everything always colliding and creating languages, stories or whatever. It was pointless to play live (we did once – in a pitch black basement days after Cobain tapped out, with only one person in attendance who was tripping hard). It was a good self-indulgence figuring that no one would get it or give a shit so Plants was a Gents Club for weirdos and destructos. This particular splot happened on 12/15/93 at around 6am in the morning (I had a morning flight to catch). The session creeped out of the shingles and into the ears of passerby schoolchildren who looked at the house as if it were levitating. This session was messed up and bent as usual, full on vintage scree manipulation of our instruments the only unordinary thing was that it was in daylight. No songs, just attempting fill every corner and crack with sonic abuse and then when the session ends – we just stare at each other with creeper grins like we just built an orb and sent it out in to space in hopes of other life forces intercepting it instead of whatever NASA sends into space to reach out to other worlds. Our orb holds truer – reflecting chaos in our world. Plants reflects some messed up shit, but it’s good shit. Note* This is not the same two-piece current band "Plants" from Portland, OR - Bryan Ramirez.
GODFLESH- SONGS OF LOVE AND HATE IN DUB LP (kreation, usa) 16.98usd/8.61gbp/11.56eur/1816jpy (approx)
*The mighty godflesh sound remixed in a dark/ambient dubwise style by Justin broderick. One of the only Godflesh albums not yet available on vinyl, so here ya go! One of the first ever dub/metal fusions. A historic release indeed.
MUDBOY- HUNGRY GHOSTS! THESE SONGS ARE DOORS LP (not not fun, usa) 16.98usd/8.61gbp/11.56eur/1816jpy (approx)
*For most of us, the doors of perception are triple-bolted shut and cast in bomb-proof iron. Only supernatural shapeshifters (or career criminals) can slip through and seize the wisdom within. But, sweetly, there is a hidden entrance: musick-as-magick. Providence, RI patch-cable conjuror Mudboy is one such secret key-crafter and his unlocking labors on this long-player stand at the summit of his already awesome discography. Alchemizing stylized soundtrack spells, organ wizardry, melodic mind-reading, and elegantly meditative harmonium hallucinations, Hungry Ghosts! These Songs Are Doors lights an urn’s worth of ritual powders and powers, filling the speakers with a sign language of smoke runes and ghost tones. Lie on the floor and be floored by Mudboy’s primordial plainsongs. Record comes housed in a dizzyingly intricate laser die-cut fold-over cover with an acutely aligned flame-silkscreened inner sleeve. Painstaking and perfect. Half on blood-red wax, half on black. Limited to 500.
SPIDERS- SPIDERS LP (pulled out, australia) 26.98usd/13.68gbp/18.36eur/2886jpy (approx)
*Australia is home to some of the deadliest spiders in the world and James Heighway is no exception. When not behind the drum kit in XWAVE he collects and modifies ancient electronics. These Spiders are a unique blend of broken, hacked, modified and recycled guitars, keyboards, effects, mixers, etc., all played simultaneously. Together they convey a feeling of the bush drenched in feedback. Heighway’s intense live performances have crowned him the king of noise throughout the region. Others have dubbed him “Merzbow of the Mountains.” Pulled Out’s LP collects highlights from limited edition CDRs and cassettes previously released on Heighway’s Moth Noize label and a live performance at the third Winter Tragic festival. Limited edition of 300 on white vinyl with covers individually spray painted.
BRUCE RUSSELL- 21ST CENTURY FIELD HOLLERS AND PRISON SONGS LP (rococo, usa) 18.98usd/9.62gbp/12.92eur/2030jpy (approx)
*In an intriguing act of self-exhumation, Bruce Russell has plundered the carcass of his own earlier release (with Ralf Wehowsky), Midnight Crossroads Tape Recorder Blues, extracting elements that held for him a particularly bluesy resonance, re-recording them at odd speeds and then constructing loops to create entirely new works. A blues feeling really does permeate the tracks, sometimes overtly, other times requiring a certain amount of aural perseverance. Inspired.
BOX- STUDIO 1 LP (rune grammophon, norway) 19.98usd/10.13gbp/13.60eur/2137jpy (approx)
*This is the debut release by Box: Raoul Björkenheim (guitars, viola da gamba), Trevor Dunn (bass), Ståle Storløkken (keyboards, electronics), Morgan Ågren (drums). Something of an international supergroup, the founding of this excellent ensemble is a touch of genius that remains something of a mystery. Hand-picked by writer and film-maker Philip Mullarkey to record and play live as part of the art/film project Box, the four musicians met for the first time in Atlantis Studio in Stockholm for two short days of recording without having planned, scored or prepared any music in advance. It quickly became apparent that this avant-garde juggernaut was heading in the right direction -- the musical interplay making it hard to believe that these complex pieces were actually improvised on the spot -- again, a testament to instant music-making at the highest level. The music was recorded directly to analog tape and has an organic and rough quality to it. All tracks were mixed from analog tape and there is no digital editing nor Pro-Tooling involved, and no overdubs. Raoul Björkenheim has worked in a wide spectrum of styles, from free jazz improvisations with Edvard Vesala to the Finnish Radio Symphony and UMO orchestras, collaborations with Paul Schütze, Bill Laswell, William Parker/Hamid Drake and Jah Wobble, not to mention his present group, Scorch Trio. Trevor Dunn is a member of Fantômas, John Zorn's Electric Masada, Trio Convulsant and Moonchild. He is one of the most in-demand bass players on the downtown jazz scene in New York and has an eclectic repertoire, having played with artists ranging from Marc Ribot to Melt Banana, Secret Chiefs 3 to Kronos Quartet. Ståle Storløkken is a founder of Supersilent and Humcrush. Morgan is a Grammy-winning musician on both sides of the Atlantic, perhaps best known for his work with the Mats/Morgan Band, as well as with diverse artists such as The Flesh Quartet, Kaipa and Zappa's Universe.
AARON DILLOWAY- CHAIN SHOT/EXECUTION DOCK LP (throne heap, usa) 18.98usd/9.62gbp/12.92eur/2030jpy (approx)
*'Pirates In Care of the BEING' Dilloway, Tapes, and Delay: Pirates, Rotten Teeth, and Treasure. All go hand in hook hand. AAARRGGHHHHHHH! This new platter by Rad Dad Dilloway is full of buried gold, or rather tape heads covered in used ancient kitty litter, whose decoded message leads you to the audio gold pit hidden deep within the tape loops. Chain Shot is my inzano pick of the thick Dillo discography. It's way relaxed and weirdo. I mean, if you cut a circle-ish shape out of wood from a haunted pirate boat, tied a human bonechain around it and dragged it on the surface of the ocean around the world four times, buried into hot sand for 1000 years and then stuck it on your turntable... it wouldn't sound any different. 'Chain Shot' is an oddity cause the tapes provide the pacing, you tell by the woodpecker attack (or a pirate tapping against glass before they raid your peaceful vessel) near the middle section of side one and the ENDLESS churning loop at the end of 'Execution Dock.' Add a dash of Thighbone Horn wail here and there, find the rarest homemade mixers and loop machines from 1943 and the recipe could be this LP which is also known as 'THREE MEDIATIONS FOR THREE TAPE LOOPS WITHIN SLO MIND.' After jamming this mutha a bunch, I found it fit well into a lot of house-moods: i.e., vacuuming, sewing, power doodle sessions, convincing your spouse there ain't magic gremlins who clean the house while she sleeps the day away, candle burning, shit-everything. Could this be a mature Dilloway? Hell gnaw, this sound disc is still teetering on a restless energy ocean -- just mad focused and... simple... direct... like a checking account based on pirate bones and jugs of fermented PEE WINE. 'Chain Shot' has a lot of depth to it -- it's as much DROLL YANKEE as it is BLACK GNOME... shit, I can easily file this wax in my environments/CBS Library/machine sound/rail road noise/animal sounds/nature LP section (which is AS BIG as Dilloway's, if you take out the military boot camp sound section) and it would fit right in. It's a BOAT OCEAN LURKING FRIGHTMARE LP. Like when a crazy old boat goes on some crazy old mission and it get frozen in the ocean near the North Pole, the crew runs outta food and sees nutzo ICE PIRATES circling the ship slowly in the freezing mist. Close your eyes, let your rat mind take off on its own weirdo adventure. I'm mad stoked this Dilloway LP is pressed on wax forever, cause now that quicksand is extinct apparently... I can still just jam 'Execution Dock' at 4:00 AM on a lonely winter night and sink slowly in the MSG-ridden HISS crawling within the rotten grooves... and disappear without a trace. four stars and an eye patch!!! --Coorz The Spartan, Winter '07
THE FOLK SPECTRE- THE BLACKEST MEDICINE LP (woodsist, usa) 15.98usd/8.10gbp/10.88eur/1709jpy (approx)
*Black vinyl with silk screened covers. Limited to 500. Solo tunes by Pete Nolan of the Magik Markers, GHQ, Vanishing Voice, Virgin Eye Blood Brothers, etc. This is music from the American underground. The feeling is dark and fucked up and somehow sublime. A solid statement of loner home-made goodness. A pop statement from behind a veil of dirt.
LOOSERS- LOGIC ON ITS HEAD 10” (woodsist, usa) 14.98usd/7.59gbp/10.20eur/1602jpy (approx)
*Portugal's greatest export (besides cork and textiles) continues its dusky, creeping bleed of six-limbed psychedelic windmilling. Loosers have always excelled at ripping strange spatial curvatures out of drums, electronics, and exotic moods, and Logic On Its Head serves up two more classic black platters of sidelight ritualism. The A drapes incense and chimes atop an old copper bowl of ringing tones and tentacle percussion fusion that slow-burns a sweet smoke you never wanna exhale. Don't. The B, 'Daeh Sti No Cigol,' is even more perverse, as backwards as its title and dusty as a mosque. Sudden gestures flutter in the dusk and the sky turns purple. Really commanding and liberated in a way few improv outfits achieve so easily. --Britt/NNF. Two-color silkscreening on fabric -- photocopied, hand-stamped sleeves. Black vinyl. Edition of 340.

V/A- I BELONG TO THIS BAND: 85 YEARS OF SACRED HARP RECORDINGS CD (dust-to-digital, usa) 14.98usd/7.59gbp/10.20eur/1602jpy (approx)
*This current collection of Sacred Harp singing is the first to offer a full range of recordings by traditional Sacred Harp singers from 1922 to the present, and is a companion to the Sacred Harp documentary by Awake, My Soul: The Story of the Sacred Harp, the first feature documentary about Sacred Harp singing. This CD is unique in a number of respects. It contains several prewar and mid-century recordings never before released on CD, some of which have never been released at all. Sacred Harp singing is typically a community musical and social event, held at all-day singings and conventions in the rural South. It is characterized by mass participation, full-voiced singing, lack of instrumental accompaniment, and rotation of song leaders. Growing out of the singing-school movement of the 18th century, and preserving the music of the first American composers, it came to be associated in the deep South with church and community homecomings and decoration days, and with sumptuous "dinner on the ground" spread in the churchyard at noon. It differs from shape-note gospel singing in that the repertory is largely pre-Civil War, and is relatively fixed in one of the 20th-century revisions of the original 1844 oblong tunebook by B. F. White and E. J. King. Although The Sacred Harp was called "the book oftenest found in the homes of rural Southerners other than the Holy Bible," the tradition was ignored by the cultural elites of the nation and region. For 85 years, commercial record producers and documentary folklorists have tried to capture this "harmonic complex of singular charm," as Jackson described it. Surprisingly, though, the earliest recordings differ sharply from the powerful sounds heard at today's singings. Many reflect the more informal uses of Sacred Harp music in the family circle, while others show the influence of professional gospel quartet singing. Displaying a wide range of ensembles and vocal styles, this release includes recordings of quartets and other groups who recorded for major record labels before World War II, private studio recordings of the 1950s and 1960s, and digital field recordings of large contemporary singing. This collection also weaves three important strands of this music: early commercial recordings, cut on 78s in the 1920s through the 1940s, home recordings made by small groups of singers in the 1950s, and contemporary "all day sacred harp singings." The very fact that these separate strands appear together here on one CD is part of what makes this collection so unique, yet the historical breadth of the material is also noteworthy. Cardboard arigato pak with 16-page saddle-stitched booklet.

V/A- MELODII TUVI: THROAT SONGS AND FOLK TUNES FROM TUVA CD (dust-to-digital, usa) 14.98usd/7.59gbp/10.20eur/1602jpy (approx)
*Recordings from 1969 of Tuvan folk music and throat-singing with liner notes by Dr. Pekka Gronow of the University of Helsinki. With the advent of the folk music revival in the 1960s, a new interest in Tuvan music swept through Asia and Eastern Europe. Capitalizing on this appeal, these 16 recordings were issued in 1969 in the Soviet Union. Dust-to-Digital is proud to reissue for the first time on compact disc these traditional performances including several khoomei songs plus one modern take on the classic Tuvan sound. In khoomei, the singer simultaneously produces two more distinct musical notes: a low, sustained bass note and a flute-like higher note. Tuvan sheep herders often practiced khoomei in an effort to calm animals and appease spirits. The effect is hypnotic, eerie, and drone-like, unlike any sound you've heard come out of a cowboy. The Republic of Tuva lies between Russia and Mongolia in the Altai Mountains, at the geographical center of Asia. Tuva is a land of mountains, lakes and rivers. Although the geographical area of Tuva is as large as the state of Florida, it has only 300,000 inhabitants.
BRENDA RAY- WALATTA CD (em, japan) 20.98usd/10.64gbp/14.28eur/2244jpy (approx)
*Certainly the most unusual reggae album ever made. August Pablo, King Tubby, Asha Puthli with Ornette Coleman, Lonnie Liston Smith & Pharoah Sanders -- very disturbing slices of psycho-dub/doo-wop/jazz-fusion/exotica music. Her breathy Chordettes meets Susan Cadgan vocals, multi-tracked whisperings about inter-galactic Bluebeat starlights over what sounds like a modulated cut of heavy rhythm. Brenda Ray will be familiar to observers of the Liverpool scene as part of the NAFFI organisation through the '80s, also fame as Brenda & The Beachballs. Over the past years, together with cohort Sir Freddie Viadukt (aka the Minister of Noise), she has been aiding and abetting the reggae producer Roy Cousins, once of The Royals, in his program of remastering and reissuing selections from his Tamoki Wambesi imprint. Cousins suggested she record an album using original roots reggae tracks from original tapes. The whole album overdubbed/played/recorded/mixed between 1995-2005 at NAFFI Studios. Everything was done by herself except the final mix-down with Sir Freddie. The cover photo has Brenda in a pose between Pharoah Sanders' Thembi and Augustus Pablo's East of the River Nile with melodica pointed towards the water.
MODERN SOUND QUARTET- OTINKU CD (em, japan) 20.98usd/10.64gbp/14.28eur/2244jpy (approx)
*The Modern Sound Quintet was formed by Rudy Smith, a Trinidadian master of the 'Pans' and a genuine jazz bebopper, in late 1960s Sweden. This international group of musicians features John Rochford (piano) from Barbados, Sigfried McIntosh (bass) from Surinam, George Allyn (drums) from Trinidad and Kofi Ayivor (congas) from Ghana. Lars Samuelson, a jazz trumpet player and producer in Sweden, heard this quite unique quintet, was captivated by their concept and sound, and asked them to record an album. Otinku, the resulting album, was recorded in Stockholm in 1971, produced by Samuelson, and originally released on the Odeon label, a subsidiary of EMI Finland. With an Afro-jazz/Caribbean orientation, the selections are a rich mixture of jazz standards and original compositions, including recently re-discovered killer funk tunes 'Otinku' & 'Sugar Daddy,'and a fine steel jazz version of 'Bags' Groove.' The album was their only release and is now a sought-after item for steel pan/Caribbean music fans & vinyl diggers.
RUDY SMITH- QUARTET STILL AROUND CD (em, japan) 20.98usd/10.64gbp/14.28eur/2244jpy (approx)
*The album Still Around is the first record Rudy Smith made under his own name, and it is considered a classic and one of his best. In the long history of Pan music, both in Trinidad and internationally, this is one of the very few albums to feature Pan as the leading voice in a pure jazz setting. His group The Modern Sound Quintet played disco/reggae/jazz fusion, changing their name to The Modern Sound Corporation in the late 1970s. After extensive touring throughout Europe, they broke up in 1980. Rudy Smith moved to Denmark in 1983, where he decided to return to the music he loved, jazz & be-bop, forming the Rudy Smith Quartet. The group included Ole Mathiessen (piano), Niels Præstholm (bass) and a South African drummer, Gilbert Matthews. There is an international inspiration for the music on the 1984 album Still Around, featuring an Oriental element, mixed with a dash of European, as well as American jazz. Rudy Smith is referred to as the jazz king of steel pans, and in Denmark as the father of the steel pan.
DUBSTEP AND GRIME
SKYNET/PINCH- TIME ON EARTH/SWAMP 12” (argon, uk)
11.98usd/6.07gbp/8.15eur/1281jpy (approx)
*restocked… The award-winning U.S. based dubstep label Argon have a ruck of killers up their sleeve this year. First up is Skynet's 'Time on Earth' backed with a massive Pinch remix. Skynet relishes his slo-mo sci-fi bass maneuvers while Pinch does one of his finest remix jobs on the flip with a riddim ready for dub war. This label can do no wrong at the moment.
RUSKO- ACTON DREAD 12” (dub police, uk)
11.98usd/6.07gbp/8.15eur/1281jpy (approx)
*restocked… Rusko brings the vibes on his 2nd Dub Police outing. The most talked about producer of the moment returns for more dub wise dubstep. The first 'Acton Dread,' inspired by Rusko's London borough, kicks off with a summertime digi-dub bounce. Hypnotic flutes and wailing vocals give way to a pulsing sub bass, reggae shuffles and catchy themes, showcasing the dub-style production that's made Rusko a favorite of DJs like Skream and Radio 1's Rob Da Bank. Listen carefully for London underground announcements lurking in the background of the tune! Flipping over we see Rusko on remix duties for local boy Caspa. This tongue-in-cheek refix sees Rusko adding his trademark trance synths and bumpy sub bass to the lilting Japanese flute melodies, space age effects and jungle percussion. 'Would You Like To Play Your Flute?' A track that will be filling dancefloors for years to come.
RUSKO- SNES DUB 12” (dub police, uk)
11.98usd/6.07gbp/8.15eur/1281jpy (approx)
*restocked… Jump Up. Dubstep for the discerning dancefloor. 'Dancefloor smasher 'Snes' holds the A side and drops heavy amid a flurry of Nintendo sounds and thumping dub bass. Super low subs and 8-bit arpegiators follow to create a sure-fire crowdpleaser that'l be rinsed again and again. Flip over for the 'Hornz cru', already a favourite with big-dub soundsystem boys 'irations steppas'. A xylophone and guitar intro gives way to rasping horns and low slung gully bass that will shake the foundations of any dancehall. The final track 'Trupowwa' brings the atmosphere. Wailing rasta's and pitchbend guitars build to a dark crescendo that will not disappoint with pumping distortion bass and firey lead guitar. Look out for Rusko's 'Dey Neva Know' doin the rounds on dubplate.
SOUTH3RN- MANGIONE TRIBE DUB 12” (lodubs, usa)
9.98usd/5.07gbp/6.74eur/1065jpy (approx)
*We've been wanting to work with the mighty South3rn since practically prior to the label's inception, but as it is our policy not to bite off more than we could chew, we just kept the lips sealed. We waited for the right time and tunes, knowing there was genius down the chronological path a piece. 'La Rana' is the aesthetic antithesis of the 'Mangione Tribe Dub' which instead of the former's groundbreaking tribal affair is an otherwise unpredictable yet catchy number, laden with soulful Tubby-esque horns, very slight ska rhythm stabs, and a thick, articulate bass line that weaves the other elements into a bright, energetic work of soundsystem bliss.
SOLVENT- THINK LIKE US 12” (lodubs, usa)
9.98usd/5.07gbp/6.74eur/1065jpy (approx)
*Solvent, a resident of Toronto, is a composer of music, who for anyone even remotely exposed to electronic music should need no introduction. Although commonly described as Electro, IDM, etc, the straight truth is that he creates some of the most evocative and memorable music within that spectrum. Over the course of a multitude of 12”s and three full lengths on the labels Suction, Morr Music, and Ghostly/Spectral, many a modern classic has emerged, from “Wish” & “For You”, to “Think Like us”, which itself was presented both on the LP Apples & Synthesizers, and was released on a separate 12” featuring remixes by Alter Ego & Ectomorph. From this, the seed was planted.
BUG FEAT. WARRIOR QUEEN- POISON DART VOL.1 12” (ninja tune, uk) 14.98usd/7.59gbp/10.20eur/1602jpy (approx)
*Poison Dart is the third single from The Bug’s (a.k.a. Kevin Martin) forthcoming album on Ninja Tune Records, following the big singles “Jah War” and “Skeng”. The Bug teams up with Warrior Queen, a longtime collaborator whom he introduced to UK audiences with Aktion Pak on Aphex Twin's Rephlex records, after connecting with her via MC Wayne Lonesome. Fresh from remixing Ghislain Poirier and Thom Yorke (at Yorke's request, who happens to be a fan), Bug has received much praise from such varied mavericks as Massive Attack, Aphex Twin, Kid 606, Andy Weatherall, and Pole, to name just a few. Part one is packaged in an amazing looking yellow PVC sleeve.
BUG FEAT. WARRIOR QUEEN- POISON DART VOL.2 12” (ninja tune, uk) 14.98usd/7.59gbp/10.20eur/1602jpy (approx)
*Number two includes “Stampin” with Bug's ongoing lyrical partner Roll Deep, and mic assassin Flowdan getting totally homicidal on “Poison.” Both worked together on the “Jah War” and “Skeng” singles. Part two is packaged in a black PVC sleeve.

JEFF MILLS- EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY VOL.3 2X12” (axis, usa)
18.98usd/9.64gbp/12.82eur/2025jpy (approx)
*In time, all wrongdoings are eligible for correction. Even in the eye of a storm, we must endure the invalid as a objective fragment in the existence of mankind. Effortlessly, time passes over and onto, without you and without us. On it, we mark the acceptance of the new with the chance to begin again and give away the hand of the past, free of inadmissibles. Those who are punctual are thieves of time. Robbing from reserves of time that have been designated for nothing. In time, time tells truths or at least the truths you've been waiting for. Time is the oldest living thing we own. Its rate of speed is constant and in all, infinite. Some never have enough time, which are those people that are quick to recognize those who waste it. Is time or is it not? It has been said that seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years, decades and centuries are just about all the average human can imagine and plan for. Millsart believes not. All that is needed to calculate is that 'one of these days is none of these days'. Now that you've read this, please be advised that Every Dog Has Its Day. --Millsart

GEL ABRIL- VERY WRONG 12” (be as one, isreal)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.83eur/1388jpy (approx)
*Gel Abril is making a name for himself in all things freaky and twisted. Chosen by Israel talent Shlomi Aber as his official remixer for his latest ovum best-selling release, Gel produced this new single especially for Shlomi's imprint Be As One. Gel brings us into a twisted atmosphere with 'Very Wrong,' an amazing track with an obscure, relentless bass line sustaining a tripped-out melody line; an astounding piece of tech-house at its best, already destined to be one of the anthems of this summer 2007. On the flip-side, Cocoon rising star Chaim gives a different twist to the tune, bringing it into techno territories and pumping grooves. After the collaboration with his Israeli compatriot Guy Gerber and his hit 'Genesis' on Cocoon, we have no doubt about the quality of the products coming from Chaim's studio. Completing the B-side is Patrick Zigon, another rising talent whose portfolio already features releases on labels such as Cocoon, Traum, Trapez, Missive and others. Patrick's mix delivers a perfect German interpretation of the original and keeps the legs shaking with the melody line, smartly adapted to a more minimal groove. A perfect closer for this release that tries to appeal to many different tastes, from the-tech house lovers to the more minimal/techno-oriented DJs.
LES RITA MITSOUKO- VARIETY REMIXES 12” (because, france)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.83eur/1388jpy (approx)
*Les Rita Mitsouko get lifted! On the A-side, Kap Bambino (duo formed by south of France-based Orion Bouvier and Caroline Martial) add to the catchy pop song 'Ding Dang Dong' some incisive rhythms, defying classification. On the flip, Daniel Wang (Balihu/Environ) on the remix duty (for the song 'So Called Friend') focuses on melody and texture rather than trendy production techniques or uninspired samples. His remix as always strongly echoes disco from the 1970s and '80s, Mr. Wang's modern touches added. An instrumental version of his remix is included too, for those who think French lyrics cannot fit dancefloors. This is a nice & worth-the-money package, much more than just a LTD700 collector!(?)
SYD MATTERS- EVERYTHING ELSE 10” (because, france)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.83eur/1388jpy (approx)
*The Parisian Jonathan Morali, alias Syd Matters, came from nowhere to make a big impression with his first two spellbinding albums. Syd has since won over both critics and the general public. Syd experiences a strange sense of joy, feels incredibly present and at the same time as if he were floating. Since the very beginning, what has been so astonishing is the artistry of his songwriting, his airy, dream-like, dense style, and his unique touch that you recognize immediately. Putting it differently, we could say Syd Matters belongs to a European middle class in decline, and this would explain why he is so melancholic. But he is also part of an active minority that has chosen to distance itself from society's greedy, empty show. A minority that prefers the desire of abstinence to forced orgasms. This is Syd Matters' path to a bright future -- and it starts right here.

9.98usd/5.07gbp/6.74eur/1065jpy (approx)

SYCLOPS- WHERE’S JASON’S K? 12” (dfa, usa)
9.98usd/5.07gbp/6.74eur/1065jpy (approx)
*dfa records is proud to unveil the debut album from the trio syclops-- featuring sven kortehisto on keyboards and electronics, hanna sarkari on bass, keyboards and electronics and jukka kantonen on drums, percussion and drum programming. This was produced by Maurice Fulton.
On the first 12-inch single from the album, we are exposed to the full and raw bluntness of this northern power trio. On the A-side is a teaser called "Where's Jason's K" from the forthcoming album-- it's a deep, dark electro anthem for 2008 that is sure to ignite dance floors. We do not know who Jason is or where he misplaced his K; we are just grateful he inspired this tune. The B-side features an exclusive non-album track, "Monkeypuss"--an early-afternoon pre-sauna jam session full of funky, spiraling bass lines and dirty, hard-edged vibes.
Syclops debuted in 2001 on BubbleTease Records. In 2006, the trio played most of the instruments on Maurice Fulton's remix of Hot Chip's "Over & Over."
The trio also played on the Kathy Diamond album Miss Diamond To You. The upcoming Syclops album I Got My Eye On You reveals the full shamanic like magic of the trio-- a mixture of dark intensity and subtle crafted musicianship. Pressed to comment, Jukka left us with a final thought-- "We don't like to talk much; even when we are together, we are often silent and communicate by doing things like making food, or chopping wood, or hanging out together in our sauna. I guess we are trying to say things in our music, but the fact remains--our music says more than we ever could in person."

TANG- NIGHTFALL 12” (emphasis, usa)
8.98usd/4.56gbp/6.06eur/958jpy (approx)
*The single that never fully received a proper introduction, nor distribution (very few copies have gotten out), the "Nightfall EP" further demonstrates Tang's exploration of Chicago house with a dash of Detroit techno sensibility.

*Orlando Voorn is back! His debut record through Submerge ignites the dance floor. "Diligent” has the same soulful techno edge that graced Orlando’s crowning moment ‘Flash’ (KMS), a bubbling Detroit winner with synths that flow and change across the shuffle, an arpeggiated line that retains an emotive vibe while the ethereal strings float wonderfully under the beat. Flip over for ‘Target Untraceable’ (co-produced by UR member M.I.A.) which heads off with repetetive organ stabs and building beats that lead to an electroid shuffle with clear sounding synths, a mighty way to kick off a new label in that truest Detroit fashion.

Blake talks about slowing down his love relationship with his girl as the chorus sings "let's take a love break, for love's sake" B-side tracks, ‘Smooth’ and ‘Subsurround’ are instrumental escapades with Voorn using effects and layers of sound for solid dancefloor jackin’.

ORLANDO VOORN- FORMAT #2 12” (ignitor, usa)
9.98usd/5.07gbp/6.74eur/1065jpy (approx)
*Format #2 comes from a very succesfull series of 12"s on the former E.S.P imprint from Holland. The A side contains the Todd Terry like 'Damn Right' with funky drums, samples, all in tune with the music. Orlando has a great ear for tonation no matter what he produces. On track A2, 'Dance' it's programming is a song structure. Well balanced and strong content. The B side will satisfy any Detroit Techno lover with its off strings and Herbie Hancock approach.
ORLANDO VOORN- PACO DI BANGO'S WORLD 12” (ignitor, usa)
9.98usd/5.07gbp/6.74eur/1065jpy (approx)
*Originally released on Urban Sound of Amsterdam label and now available exclusively through Submerge, this 12" was made as a protest against boring house/techno in 1998. BOBMO- TO THE BOBMOBILE REMIX 10” (institubes, france)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.83eur/1388jpy (approx)
*We put out Let's Go Bobmo! a couple of months ago, Bobmo's début 12". Went over really well. The kid is touring, playing everywhere, getting thrown out of Berlin clubs for lewd behavior, remixing Jape and Scenario Rock -- good times. One track of the single stood out and got lots of plays: 'To the Bobmobile.' And lo and behold we received a great remix from our friends Kazey & Bulldog. This is what we had to say on the original Bobmobile: 'The track will appeal to the kidult lurking behind your polished techno connoisseur facade. Drums pumping and shuffling, a cute two-note organ riff, filters opening and closing spasmodically, vocal stabs heckling and cackling, climaxing at some point into a little percussive solo, like a sugar-addled kid breaking into a tap dance routine in the middle of his bar mitzvah.' The new remix brings to the fore the Baltimore components of the original. Parisians Kazey & Bulldog took Bobmo's version of Baltimore club and brought it closer to fancy footwork-worthy reality.

11.98usd/6.07gbp/8.15eur/1281jpy (approx)

*restocked… chromatics draft in new vocalist ruth radelet for this ‘70s opus of Chicago Nosferatu disco. A stabby little cardiac-monitor bleep darts back and forth through the shimmering strings and swathes of gold and silver. Chromatics cast themselves as afro-ed divas gliding through the city in a gleaming Back To The Future Delorean, but we’re only seeing this in the dazzling reflective sheen from their aviator shades as the vroom off into 2012 AD leaving flaming tire marks, because, as DoClub kid Dan says, this is the sound of the future.”--20jazzfunkgreats blog. Features vocal and instrumental versions of “In The City,” along with a B-side cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire.”

PARTIAL ARTS- TELESCOPE 12” (kompakt, germany)
11.98usd/6.07gbp/8.15eur/1281jpy (approx)
*Partial Arts -Ewan Pearson, Alastair Usher- present Telescope, which could easily be tagged as Krautdisco. It's hymnal, epic, slightly psychedelic, bacchanal and hovers gently over the dancefloor. The notorious thump comes via the deft hands of Vito Roccoforte who normally works in The Rapture's shooting gallery. Pearson says of Radioslave's remix: "..it's hands down the darkest, scariest, most out, avant, abstract, least commercial thing he's done in years." 13 minutes of drums, fx and weirdness.
ARMANDO- DON'T TAKE IT 12” (let’s pet puppies, usa)
9.98usd/5.07gbp/6.74eur/1065jpy (approx)
*restocked… From the lost archives of Head Studios comes a long-forgotten and previously unheard acid opus from Head Studios friend and Chicago legend Armando Gallop. An improvised, one-take afterparty session from 1988, featuring quite the ever-relevant public service message from Sharvette (using the adjacent bathroom as a makeshift vocal booth, sitting on the toilet lid). Sublime relic of Armando's unparalleled agility in acid production from the developmental cradle of his signature (and oft imitated) avant-garde style. Flipped with an unbelievable extended instrumental re-rub from Johnny Fiasco himself, currently in heavy rotation with Chicago's drinking elite.
MARCUS MIXX- T.A.P 12” (let’s pet puppies, usa)
9.98usd/5.07gbp/6.74eur/1065jpy (approx)
*restocked… Two resuscitated monsters from the Mixxer that may sound familiar to a few of my biggest record nerds (snort snort)......about as twisted as Chicago gets and originally recorded in 1987! Although these barely surfaced on a tiny local pressing, they still managed to have heavy influence on an entirely new breed of emerging Chicago producers (Ron Trent/Rush/Gemini etc). Once again Johnny "The Ears" Fiasco has blessed us with some superb pre-mastering work, off to the plant this week! Better spread on red....

11.98usd/6.07gbp/8.15eur/1281jpy (approx)
*French artist based in Paris. This prolific musician gets noticed by the OD Records label that has produced his second EP in 2006. Mixing in all his production influences from the '80s, '90s and 2000s through cheap but stylish synth sounds, melodies that underlie a certain sense of tragedy and his own gimmicks, he builds tracks socked in old school house, minimal and electro-pop that immerse us in a cold, sensitive and personal ambiance.

gracias

It offers Dungen's most exciting and adventurous recordings and features stunning musicmanship, stellar vocals, Hammond B-3 organ, flute, violin, groovy bass, swinging drums, electric and acoustic guitars and screaming fuzz, spellbinding Swedish folkrock pop psych.

MISGUIDED- TRAVELLING DOWN 12” (emphasis, usa)
8.98usd/4.56gbp/6.06eur/958jpy (approx)

TANG- NIGHTFALL 12” (emphasis, usa)
8.98usd/4.56gbp/6.06eur/958jpy (approx)
*The single that never fully received a proper introduction, nor distribution (very few copies have gotten out), the "Nightfall EP" further demonstrates Tang's exploration of Chicago house with a dash of Detroit techno sensibility.

FIX & M.I.A- DILIGENT TARGET UNTRACEABLE 12” (ignitor, usa)
9.98usd/5.07gbp/6.74eur/1065jpy (approx)

9.98usd/5.07gbp/6.74eur/1065jpy (approx)
*Basic Bastard Volume 4 takes us back to a 1994 collaboration with Blake Baxter. ‘Love Break’ is an underground, deep, tech-house smash.
ORLANDO VOORN- BASIC BASTARD VOL.5 12” (ignitor, usa)
9.98usd/5.07gbp/6.74eur/1065jpy (approx)
*Basic Bastard Volume 5 has never been released and is finally available through Submerge! Side A ‘Mind Games’ is a sweaty Chicago-influenced jam, with jazzy keys and bass that keep the floor moving. Side B, The Funk part one and part two, continues Voorn's P-Funk influence with a hybrid techno house production. The EP is the first of upcoming unreleased material on Ignitor's archives series.

Funky grooves and tribal drums by the Dutch track master Orlando Voorn. 'Paco DiBango' is dissapointed and wants to bang his head.

GLASS CANDY- MISS BROADWAY 12” (Italians do it better, usa)
11.98usd/6.07gbp/8.15eur/1281jpy (approx)
*restocked… Originally recorded by Euro-disco legends Belle Epoque, “Miss Broadway” is a legendary baeleric disco song. Known for the epic string arrangements and insane vocal range--the band does it justice. ida already has one of the strongest voices around, and it shows when she hits the high notes. johnny also recorded the track in his studio and the label flew in a string section to make this as authentic and awesome as possible. Features main, instrumental, and synth/drum mix versions.

Ayres & Tittsworth enlisted an all-star cast of producers on this one: A-Trak, Kanye West’s DJ and accomplished beatmaker in his own right; DJ Taj aka Bamabounce, fresh off his own solo EP on T&A ; and DJ Eli, whose production credits span from Fondle ‘Em Records in the 90s to current work with Diplo, Pase Rock, Amanda Blank and secret stuff we can’t reveal just yet. Mike Davis (Burlesque Design) flipped the Ultimate Beats & Breaks octopus and logo on the label, tying it all together from the Bronx breakbeats to the Baltimore bangers, and we have another T&A classic! --phonica
