ROCK, POP AND PSYCHEDELIC

XIU XIU- KNIFE PLAY LP (absolutely kosher, usa)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*back catalog title instock for the first time, new record in soon… debut album from these on-the-down, ultra-sad pop gloomers comprised of Lauren andrews, yvonne chen (zum audio/media), cory mc culloch (ibopa, ten in the swear jar), and jamie stewart. Ten simple and forlorn tracks played with bells, synths, piano, gongs, harmonium, guitar, electronics, bass, and vocals. Includes guest performances from members of deerhoof, duster, and mr. bungle.

XIU XIU- PROMISE LP (absolutely kosher, usa)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*back catalog title instock for the first time, new record in soon… 04 album from Oakland, California gloom-bringing anti-popsters XIU XIU. Ten tracks of goth-esque release fleshed out with orchestral passages, stong dynamics, sophisticated, violent crashes and house music/dancefloor feelings. Includes a cover of Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car," some guest bumming from aaron russell (the teeth) and ches smith (john zorn, good for cows), and an overall more depressing mood than anything the band has attempted prior--including, one would surmise, suicide.

SPIDER BAGS- A CELEBRATION OF HUNGER LP (birdman, usa)
15.98usd/8.11gbp/10.95eur/1731jpy (approx)

*Please welcome The Spider Bags: hailing from North Carolina, out of nowhere but with the sound of a vintage anti-establishment America, fueled by whiskey and the treads of a long, harshly departed woman. The Spider Bags' A Celebration of Hunger was recorded in a whirlwind, with the six-piece band huddling around a microphone and preaching the country / punk / garage gospel with Shane MacGowan toothlessly smiling, listening to the songs of drink and debauchery. Leader Dan McGee is the new great American songwriter-on-the-dole, whose multi-purposed voice sings of two things: girls and women, and does so with some of the most impressive lyrics to come out of an American since Nick Cave... no... hmmm... Shane... no, he is from Ireland... damn... well, in the tradition of all those greats who steal from the Americana ethos and make careers out of doing so. We bring to you The Spider Bags, the first great European-stealing Americana band from America. Let freedom reign.

V/A- OBSESSION 2LP (bully, canada)
23.98usd/12.18gbp/16.43eur/2598jpy (approx)

*killer double pack compiled by Mike Davis, owner of Academy Records in NY. Ranging from 1967 to 1973, and from countries such as Turkey, Uruguay and Peru, these are some of his rarest acquisitions over decades of record collecting. Includes some information about each band, even though some of it was practically impossible to track down." Artists include: Atomic Forest, Quarteto Nova Era, Arif Sag, Sonara Casino, Flavio Kurt, Erkin Koray, Novos Bahianos, Los Chikichaka, Arnaud Rodriguez, Ovni 87, Suely E Os Kantikus, Jean Paul 'El Troglodita', Ersen and La Barra De Chocolate.

DEERHOOF- RUNNERS FOUR 2LP (children of hoof, usa)
22.98usd/11.67gbp/15.75eur/2490jpy (approx)

*repressed on vinyl and in stock for the first time… the last record before the most recent one from last year from the prolific oakland rock team deerhoof, and the follow-up to their Green Cosmos ep. Twenty tracks recorded in the bands rehearsal space (for a more simplistic sound) that show an incredible growth in songwriting complexity, as the band continues to challenge the ears and break down the boundaries. Released by the group on their own Children Of Hoof label.

CURRENT 93/OM- INERRANT RAYS OF INFALLIBLE SUN: BLACKSHIP SHRINEBUILDER CD (durtro-jnana, usa)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*been meaning to git this one for awhile, vinyl’s sold out… A massive split ep between trancendent heavyweights current 93 and om. Features exclusive mixes of C93s Inerrant Infallible and Om’s Rays of the Sun/To The Shrinebuilder. killer.

BIRDS OF MAYA- VOL.1 LP (holy mountain, usa)
15.98usd/8.11gbp/10.95eur/1731jpy (approx)

*restocked… It's been said that Volume One is possibly the best rock release to come out of Philadelphia ever. While low on recording budget, attitude and pretension, Birds of Maya is high on stolen riffs and an energetic execution seldom seen outside of a Sunday ruling by Seamus McCaffery. Whether they are mangling riffs or stepping way out for fried boogie solos Birds of Maya oozes a dark chunky sludge with elements from all the colors of the classic rock rainbow. Do they really sound like "a GG Allin demo played through a megaphone?" It's a fair description and it's certainly colorful, but it leaves out an awful lot. They are loud and they are chaotic, but they have way more groove than GG Allin could have ever imagined.

DANIEL HIGGS- METEMPSYCHOTIC MELODIES LP (holy mountain, usa)
15.98usd/8.11gbp/10.95eur/1731jpy (approx)

*restocked… Daniel Higgs returns with his second full length recording for Holy Mountain after last year's critically acclaimed Ancestral Songs and his contribution. "Atomic Yggdrasil Tarot," to Thrill Jockey's series of books collecting art and music. Raw picked banjo drones dominate Metempsychic Melodies as the instrumental "Universal Salutation" fades into the waking dream soliloquy of observation "Love Abides." "Leontocephaline Rhapsody" is a long, waltzy drone with enough spooky atmosphere for one to think that it could have been recorded at Sunshine studios as there is a heavy Vogel vibe to the whole thing. Rumor has it engineer Tim Green told Higgs that he had to fade the track otherwise they were going to be arrested. Vocals return for the closing track "All Cherished Things" an epic about change, sound and transformation.

WOODEN SHJIPS- WOODEN SHJIPS LP (holy mountain, usa)
15.98usd/8.11gbp/10.95eur/1731jpy (approx)

*restocked… Wooden Shjips, a quartet from San Francisco heavily influenced by the experimentalism of psychedelia, classical minimalism, and garage rock excess, started as an experiment in rhythmic primitivism and group improvisation. The current roster brings a more structured rock approach to its performances, utilizing a traditional lineup of drums (Omar Ahsanuddin), bass (Dusty Jermier), organ (Nash Whalen), guitar (Erik "Ripley" Johnson), and vocals. The band released two acclaimed records in 2006, beginning early in the year with a self-released 10-inch, Shrinking Moon for You. The record quickly sold out, after capturing the attention of well-regarded tastemakers, such as Tom Lax and Byron Coley, who penned rave reviews on Siltblog, and in The Wire magazine, respectively. A 7-inch followed on the Sick Thirst label, and received similar praise from music bloggers, as well as from veteran scribe David Fricke in Rolling Stone.

A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS- A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS LP (important, usa)
15.98usd/8.11gbp/10.95eur/1731jpy (approx)

*Repressed… Vinyl version of the group's break-out self-titled release. A Place To Bury Strangers have often been called 'the loudest band in New York.' This may very well be the case, but unlike much so-called 'loud' rock and roll that's out there, APTBS is not loud simply for the sake of it. The sonically overdriven sound they've accomplished is no clumsy accident, but a carefully-cultivated and well-maintained entity all its own, fostered by an unbridled passion that's clearly evident in every live show they play and each recording they make. A Place To Bury Strangers does not so much play songs as allow them to pour out. They are songs about longing, heartbreak and confusion played extremely well and at a passionately loud volume. While there are obvious reference points: Pornography-era Cure, early Ride, My Bloody Valentine, and pre-1990s Jesus and Mary Chain, the sound is all their own.

FRENCH QUARTER- FRENCH QUARTER LP+CD (gilgongo, usa)
15.98usd/8.11gbp/10.95eur/1731jpy (approx)

*french quarter is Stephen Steinbrink from phoenix, az. after releasing and selling out of several diy/handmade recordings (both done on his own and by labels such as Arbor and C-Salt), this self-titled lp, which comes with a cd version inside, is his first properly issued recording, and comes highly anticipated by anyone who has seen him on one of his excursions across various parts of the country. Stephen crafts memorable, vocal based folk songs using a variaty of approaches and methods while maintaining a smooth consistancy in sincerity, making these 10 songs an engaging and moving listen. Though compareable to others from past and present, (Neil Young? Woods? The Microphones? Karl Blau?) and despite his young age, Stephen is hard at work creating his own set of unique songs that feel like old friends upon first listen. Other notes: Brittany Gould (of Married in Birdichiev fame, Rhinoceropolis (Denver venue) co-runner) painted the art for this release. french quarter did a full US tour in late fall. This LP comes out in between that and another full US tour in early winter 2008.

PUNK AND POST-PUNK

MAC BLACKOUT- MAC BLACKOUT LP (deadbeat, usa)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*The debut solo album from mac blackout of functional blackouts and daily void fame. Upon listening to the songs, one distinctly get the feeling something special is going on. The tracks have a sweet diy home recording feel to them which makes these deeply personal tunes shine. Performed with guitar and vocals, self-created clarinet, saxophone and electronic violin all intricately layered into very cohesive, concise songs. Twelve tracks. For fans of Electric Eels, Blank Dogs, Chrome, early David Bowie (because, ya know, 80s bowie is like so lame), Catholic Boys, Factums, Frustration, Joy Division, Kraftwerk, Daily Void, Haunted George, Jay Reatard, Funtional Blackouts, Dead Hookers, um, etc.

SCREAM- STILL SCREAMING LP (dischord, usa)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*one of my all time favorite american rock albums, finally available on vinyl again (and white vinyl no less). this, along with the faith/void lp and the first die kreuzen lp were staples on many a friday night at the philarecex (after a case –or two- of beers were consumed, natch). killer/essential stuff for sure. america, 1981… Baileys Crossroads, Virginia lays just a few miles outside of DC, but in the 1980s it was apparently far enough to make it seem like a different world. The Virginia suburbs suddenly stepped up with the formation of Scream. There were punk shows being thrown in the basement of the Scream House, and the DC bands, always looking for a place to play, were making the trek out to what was known as 'BXR'. Scream, like most of the bands in DC, obviously had been extremely influenced by the Bad Brains, but they seemed to be more advanced musicians and had more of a rock and roll sensibility than the others. In 1982, they went into Inner Ear Studio with Ian and Eddie to record Dischord's first full length album, Still Screaming.

WIPERS- IS THIS REAL? LP (jackpot, usa)
20.98usd/10.65gbp/14.38eur/2273jpy (approx)

*Unquestionably Portland's most well-loved punk group, the Wipers formed in the late 1970s and in 1980 released their debut LP, Is This Real? -- twelve songs of stabbing, jittery guitar, snapped vocals, and unabashed teen angst. Full of desperation and yearning, the LP has stood as a blueprint for wretched youth for over 25 years. In the early 1990s Is This Real? was given mainstream attention when Nirvana covered two tracks off the record and Cobain announced it was one of the primary influences on his group. While it was reissued on compact disc and available as a part of the Wipers Boxed Set (Zeno), this is the first time Is This Real? has been available on vinyl in the U.S. since its initial release. Remastered from original tapes as provided by Greg Sage himself, the LP is pressed on audiophile grade vinyl and housed in a deluxe tip-on sleeve. Complete with a printed insert that replicates the original innersleeve, the Jackpot Records reissue of Is This Real? is a lavish tribute to one of the greatest recordings of the last 30 years.

WIPERS- YOUTH OF AMERICA LP (jackpot, usa)
20.98usd/10.65gbp/14.38eur/2273jpy (approx)

*Simply obliterating any conception of the Wipers as a mere punk band, Greg Sage released this follow-up to Is This Real? in 1981 -- a sophisticated, overwhelming response to the evil times marked by the turn of the decade. Broken up into six long songs, Youth of America is a much colder, harrowing experience than the teen angst of their debut. Vocally, Sage comes off as sleep-deprived and forsaken, snarling not only at his own predicament but at the predicament of the entire world. The centerpiece of the album is the title track, a dire ten minutes of paranoia and angst that gave Sage the space to showcase his wildest, darkest playing yet. As bassist Brad Davidson and drummer Brad Naish hold the same hypnotic rhythm for the entire song, the guitar careens and swoops with such a frantic energy, it seems as though it's the only thing keeping Sage alive in the maelstrom of sound. It's a fitting commentary that the exacting, post-punk legends Mission of Burma and squalling, noisy thugs The Melvins both saw fit to cover the track. Jackpot Records have kept to the high standards set by our previous reissues (The Wipers' Is This Real? and the self-titled Beauregarde LP), and Youth of America is pressed on high-quality vinyl at RTI and packaged in a sturdy, old-fashioned tip-on sleeve. The tracks have been mastered from original tapes by Greg Sage himself, and the cover is identical to the original sleeve as issued in 1981.

BUSH TETRAS- BOOM IN THE NIGHT LP (roir, usa)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*post new wave funk/punk early '80s stars of the New York club scene, the Bush Tetras were one of the most popular and exciting groups of the era. Here we have their original studio recordings, 1980-83, remastered by band member/drummer Dee Pop. It includes all their Clash period production work by Topper Headon and Joe Blaney. essential.

MALARIA!- EMOTION LP (moabit, germany)
18.98usd/9.64gbp/13.01eur/2056jpy (approx)

*Warehouse find of some original copies of the first Malaria! full length vinyl LP, from 1982, as originally issued by the Moabit label. Includes 2 tracks not found on the Malaria Compiled 1981-1984 CD. Probably the last chance to get this on LP.

AVANT GARDE AND NOISE

GREY DATURAS- OWLY CLAW HAMMER LP (emperor jones, usa)
15.98usd/8.11gbp/10.95eur/1731jpy (approx)

*An engineer dealing with frequencies that are knocking over his five-pound Catholic candles as he's recording strangers should have the good temper to control the earthquake he didn't anticipate. Melbourne's Grey Daturas camped out in Austin's hi-fi Infinity Recording for one day and borrowed cabinets that nearly reached the ceiling, cooking up 34 minutes of disturbing waves that seemed on the verge of opening the Balcones Fault's limestone and lava.
Lots of drone albums loom in the racks, sure. But if you, listener, perceive this long-playing record as whatever drone or doom metal, is, then you, Madame Blahg, are as simple-headed as Bush Jr. doing lines while watching a hurricane on CNN. You can hear this trio feeling each other a year ago, as these A and B sides spin in '08 in your living room: a triad with cleared heads and no preconception, speaking to each other with demonic waves, while not once looking at the other's eyes or hands nor saying a word. Not bad, considering they withstood a night of broken glass with Texas mental-case bands at the club just hours before.
So why did they do this? I'll tell you why, Jimmy Somerville: because like Asia, they were a group in the heat of the moment who shat out the most bone-crunching session of glistening murk that this state has experienced since Roky and Josefus jammed some heavy-mental during a '72 rehearsal (Google it, killer bootleg).
Maybe something should be said about what it sounds like. Shit. "Having a half-hour orgasm right before a natural disaster's about to kill you, while an early Celtic Frost instrumental 7-inch plays at 16rpm?" Maybe. But this one's 33, for the record.

RAHDUNES- RAHDUNES LP (emperor jones, usa)
14.98usd/7.61gbp/10.27eur/1623jpy (approx)

*restocked… This San Fran-sicko duo make their long-playing debut with 46 minutes of devilish, droney psych that will delight fans of truly demented music. Repetitive bass leads are peppered with murky washes of horror movie-inspired sounds, all served on top of a mountain of tape hiss that becomes an integral part of the music.
This is not instrumental music but mental music, with creepy, wordless vocals chanting questions that only a demon could decipher. Side two starts off like a lost Suicide demo from 1973: a broken synth spits out a beastly pattern while a single tom drum keeps time with Echoplexed mumbling, as washed-out cymbals flail about on the floor. Some heavy, sick shit we have here!
There are too many drone, noise, and freak-fuck LPs out there right now. This LP will cleanse your bowels of the flooded market of underground music. This record sounds like nothing you've ever heard before. Rahdunes have unleashed a work that will strongly stand the test of time, so step up and shake their hands, because as one of the song titles says, "Meeting you is like sucking God's cock." Toodle pip, no worries; cheers then.

JOHN WIESE & ANDY ORTMANN- GRUX 12” (rococo, usa)
29.98usd/15.22gbp/20.55eur/3248jpy (approx)

*Wiese and Ortmann step away from the car with synthesizers oriented less on noise, and more on composition. Witnesses have used words such as "truly weird" and "amazing" to describe the dark and subdued, organic-sounding psychedelic swamp-scrapes here. Blue vinyl with double-sided silver-on-blue screened covers and 12" x 12" metal laser cut outer cover. Limited to 200 copies.

GHQ- CRYSTAL HEALING LP (three lobed, usa)
27.98usd/14.21gbp/19.18eur/3032jpy (approx)

*We will go ahead and say it now--we are lucky enough to be able to release GHQ's strongest collection of studio material to date. Crystal Healing is a massive collection of the band's unique and mesmerizing brand of acoustic drone goodness. Get ready to have your socks knocked off. This record has been wonderfully mastered and pressed onto some super-sweet sounding rti 180g vinyl. The record will be housed within hand-numbered heavy stock "old style" one-pocket gatefold sleeves and come from a limited edition of 855 copies. The jacket itself features some stunning new artwork by michael pare. This one is really stunning to behold--it is one of ‘those’ records.

GHQ- HEAVY ELEMENTS CD (three lobed, usa)
13.98usd/7.10gbp/9.58eur/1515jpy (approx)

*restocked… Following on the heels of their fantastic 2006 release Cosmology of the Eye, GHQ and three lobed recordings are proud to release the aptly titled Heavy Elements. Culled together from a live performance in Brooklyn (January 2006), the trio continues to explore the intricacies of electric/acoustic drones and ragas in what is their most intense set of recordings to date. For this recording the band consisted of marcia bassett (double leopards, hototogisu, zaimph), steve gunn and pete nolan (magik markers, spectre folk, the vanishing voice, etc). Heavy Elements churns with the deeply layered drones that marked previous GHQ releases. While these sounds are present, this album differentiates itself from the band's prior outings through the addition of nearly-tribal drums and a more intense overall aural atmosphere. This is music that, while blissfully transcendent and beautiful, is not for the faint of heart. from a one-time pressing of 1000 copies.

GOWN- FOR THE MAPLES LP (three lobed, usa)
26.98usd/13.70gbp/18.49eur/2923jpy (approx)

*gown (aka andrew macgregor and one-half of bark haze) moved from western massachusetts to nova scotia in mid-2007. bBefore he moved, he wanted to have one big audio blow-out to remember the grand old Mass times. with that goal in mind, Gown went into the studio with the sunburned hand of the man gang to melt some audio consoles. For the Maples represents a portion of that recorded output and it's some massive stuff. Sunburned's thick funk presents the perfect background for gown's shredding guitar-play. Extremely hot stuff, especially the massive side-long "Bending Close."

SPECTRE FOLK- REQUIEM FOR MING ARALIA CD (three lobed, usa)
13.98usd/7.10gbp/9.58eur/1515jpy (approx)

*restocked… Leaping forth from a prior discography consisting of cdr’s and cassettes, spectra folk’s Requiem for Ming Aralia is a powerfully assured psychedelic folk statement. A one-man operation consisting of pete nolan (magik markers, shackamaxon, ghq, virgin eye blood, wooden wand, etc.), Spectre Folk offers the listener the ability to glimpse at one of those rare calm moments and it showcases the delicately twisted calm bubbling underneath the drumming furor Nolan unleashes elsewhere. Ranging from atmospheric instrumental explorations to dark and moody sing-alongs, Requiem for Ming Aralia offers a little bit of everything for fans of “out” music.

YELLOW SWANS- DESCENSION YELLOW SWANS LP (three lobed, usa)
26.98usd/13.70gbp/18.49eur/2923jpy (approx)

*the yellow swans have presented Three Lobed with some wonderfully dark and brooding drones for release as Descension Yellow Swans. Taking a slightly different direction from their recent work, here swanson and saloman go and totally lay a psychedelic YS trip on all of your asses. Don't say you weren’t warned. Once again, this record has been wonderfully mastered and pressed onto some super-sweet sounding rti 180-gram vinyl. The record will be housed within an ornate hand-screened multi-ink LP sleeves printed by alan sherry (siwa). Pressed in an edition of around 500 copies.

JAZZ

BOSCOE- BOSCOE LP (asterisk, usa)
18.98usd/9.64gbp/13.01eur/2056jpy (approx)

*Combining the spiritual soul and funk of Earth, Wind, & Fire with the proto-rap of the Last Poets and the cosmic jazz of Pharaoh Sanders, Boscoe's lone album has long eluded bootleggers and the collector elite. At last, and via Numero's * imprint, this Chicago spiritual soul jazz masterstroke will see the light of day. Impeccably remastered and housed in a CD gatefold sleeve with a booklet full of copious liner notes, personal testaments from the group, and never-before-seen archival material, this thirty-five year old album is a must for anyone interested in soul's secret history.

FUNK AND SOUL

BETTY DAVIS- BETTY DAVIS LP (light in the attic, usa)
21.98usd/11.16gbp/15.06eur/2381jpy (approx)

*For the first time, Betty’s critically adored first two albums are being lovingly remastered from the original master tapes by Light In The Attic Records to sound as ferocious and revolutionary as they did when they first sprung on an unsuspecting world in the early ‘70s. In 1973, Davis would finally kick off her cosmic career with an amazingly progressive hard funk and sweet soul self-titled debut. Davis showcased her fiercely unique talent and features such gems as “If I’m In Luck I Might Get Picked Up” and “Game Is My Middle Name.” The album Betty Davis was recorded with Sly & The Family Stone’s rhythm section, sharply produced by Sly Stone drummer Greg Errico, and featured backing vocals from Sylvester and the Pointer Sisters. Packaged with a bonus 7-inch.

V/A- ECCENTRIC SOUL: THE OUTSKIRTS OF DEEP CITY 2LP (numero group, usa)
21.98usd/11.16gbp/15.06eur/2381jpy (approx)

*After a box of thought-to-be-lost Deep City master tapes turned up in Miami in January of 2007, an idea both fascinating and ugly reared its head: sequel. Disgusted by the thought of merely making on record to capitalize on the success of the first, we sought to turn the idea on its head. Instead of rehashing and expanding upon an already established story, The Outskirts of Deep City serves to color in the spaces left open by its predecessor. In addition to seven previously unissued tracks, we've added thirteen other related gems from the Solid Soul, Sun Cut, Reedsville, Lloyd, and Concho labels, and four LP-only bonus cuts. Old style tip-on gatefold sleeve for the vinyl, 32-page booklet housed in a Numero slipcase for the CD, with both featuring a wealth of unpublished photographs, an appendix, bibliography, and discography. Featuring unheard cuts by Clarence Reid, Helene Smith, Betty Wright, Frank Williams & the Rocketeers, Johnny K Killens & the Dynamites, James Knight & the Butlers, Deep City Band, The Rising Sun, The Rollers, Perk Badger, Snoopy Dean, Nasty Dog Catchers, and Lynn Williams.

V/A- TROPICALIA: OU PANIS ET CIRCENSIS LP (lilith, russian federation)
23.98usd/12.18gbp/16.43eur/2598jpy (approx)

*Originally released in 1969, this album is one of the most significant in Brazilian musical history, spearheading the musical Tropicalia revolution lead by Brazilian legends Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil, not to mention Gal Costa and mutant rockers Os Mutantes. Not only were the artists experimenting with the music, they were also making a very strong political statement that spoke out very harshly against the military regime in Brazil at the time. This album helped land Veloso and Gil a brief stint in jail and eventually in political exile in the UK. Track listing: 'Miserere Nobis' (Gilberto Gil), 'Coracao Materno' (Caetano Veloso), 'Panis Et Circensis' (Os Mutantes), 'Lindoneia' (Nara Leao), 'Parque Industrial' (Gilberto Gil), 'Geleia Geral' (Gilberto Gil), 'Baby' (Gal Costa & Caetano Veloso), 'Tres Caravellas' (Caetano Veloso & Gilberto Gil), 'Enquanto Seu Lobo Nao Vem' (Caetano Veloso), 'Mamae Coragem' (Gal Costa), 'Bat Macumba' (Gilberto Gil), 'Hino Do Senor Do Bonfim' (Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa & Os Mutantes).

CAETANO VELOSO- TRANSA LP (vinyl lovers, russian federation)
31.98usd/16.24gbp/21.92eur/3465jpy (approx)

*Recorded by Veloso in 1972 immediately after his return from political exile in the UK, the album was the first to feature a mix of songs sung in English and Portuguese and is somewhat of a musical departure from his earlier albums, this album being slightly more rock-oriented (apparently being in London had left a musical impression on him). Although Veloso is careful to avoid the kind of overt political statements that set him at odds with Brazil's military regime and got him sent into exile in the first place, Veloso had far from dropped his political convictions and his politics are hidden in plain enough sight for anyone who cares to scratch the surface." Remastered reissue of the original 1972 album; 180 gram virgin vinyl.

DUBSTEP AND GRIME

HEKTAGON- RUNNING THRU/ELEMENTAL REMIX 12” (audio freaks, uk)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*Yet another slice of dubstep action this week with Hektagon. 'Running Thru' mixes dark, spacey echoes with reggae jabs and occasionally throws in some emotive strings just for a little variety. Elemental takes over on the flip to give you two options to fill the floor on one circle of wax, and you really can't argue with that.

ESCAPEE PLANES- PERFUME 12” (aphex, uk)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*Following support from some of the scene's biggest DJs, including the likes of Mary Anne Hobbs and DJ Distance, converted electronica producer Escapee Planes presents his debut dubstep 12", the Perfume EP. Made up of a glitchy, electronic influence, powerful bass lines, choiring synths and snappy drums, this is set to be a debut 12" that makes its mark.

DJ HATCHA- JUST A RIFT 12” (aphex, uk)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*Hatcha returns to the Aphex:Recordings imprint under its new name of Eight:FX. This time with a solo effort presenting some more of his simple and dark beats. Another banger from this dubstep originator and one of the scene's leading figures.

DJ HATCHA & KROMESTAR- 3000/300 12” (aphex, uk)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… Two of the scene's biggest names bring you their latest collaboration. A-side '300' - featured on DJ Hatcha's latest mix compilation, Dubstep Sessions Vol. 1 (November 2007), here two of the scene's biggest names have mixed together and formed snappy beats, a simple bouncy bass-line, along with string and vocal samples from the smash hit film 300, to create a powerful club banger. AA-side '3000' - a more minimal track from the pair. Continues the Spartan theme, but with a far darker tone, rolling bass-line and melody that has the same tones as that minimal tech sound dubstep is so often being compared to now.

NIKA D FEAT. DJ ABSURD- FELT THE NEED 12” (aphex, uk)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… French born dubstep producer, DJ Absurd (aka Monstr), began making beats over ten years ago. Now 27, and father of one daughter, DJ Absurd really began to make waves in the dubstep and grime scenes with his first release receiving more than 8000 sales. Absurd followed this on by releasing the first grime 12" vinyl in France, Gonshat. Also the founder and front man for the Resofantom label/crew, DJ Absurd has been at the forefront of the European grime/dubstep scene through both his production and DJing all over Europe, having played in the biggest venues and alongside the biggest names about (names include Wretch 32, Virus Syndicate, Earz, Sniper E, Flirta D) . Now working very closely with the new Aphex recordings label, Absurd is set to take dubstep on it's home ground and all around the world, with his first release, Felt The Need, alongside Nika D from Virus Syndicate, and remixes by MRK1 and Poet Shadeo.

SNO- CAN'T TOUCH DIS 12” (boka, uk)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*Back with a bang for the next Boka release is Manchester's SNO. One of the dubstep scene's heaviest warriors, this EP shows SNO's full range of styles. First up is 'Can't Touch Dis,' a track getting battered at every dubstep rave from London to Nova Scotia. On the flip is 'Urb,' a track on a future reggae flex. And last but not least is 'Fear,' a track that's so dark, it's hard to listen to it all the way through without feeling like you're going to be sick.

THE OTHERS- HEAR DIS STYLE/UNDERWORLD 12” (boka, uk)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… Boka kicks off 2007 with a two-track EP from new West London producers D-Code & DJ Dextourous collectively known as The Others. Having had their dubs smack it on the dubstep dancefloors over the last year by the likes of Wonder, Professor J-S, N-Type, Emalkay, Caspa, the lads finish off the year with their debut release. This EP confirms that The Others are a name to look out for this year. 1) 'Hear Dis Style' rolls on a grimey half-step tip with pulsating bass and effective build-ups and breakdowns. 2) 'Underworld' rattles along like an injured snake before spitting out a bassline of pure venom.

NIGHTWALKER- MAGIC BEANS 12” (boka, uk)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… Boka finally gets into double figures with a three track EP from Bristol-based producer Nightwalker aka Sound Box Productions. Nightwalker's sound is pure bass heavy madness that mixes up a fusion of styles including grime, electronica and dubstep. 1) 'Magic Beans' features a jump up bass that sits awkwardly on wild beats, but before getting too comfortable, the track breaks down into a sublime piano hook and then builds into another bassline assault. 2) 'Spakture' is a track of skunktronica proportions with its solid beats, low-end attack and spaced-out effects. 3) 'Wartorn' is classical gutter substep that submerges you bang into the middle of low-end war.

PROFESSOR J-S/KUDOS- CAN'T SLEEP/WEIRDO'S WELCOME 12” (boka, uk)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… This record sees the return of Boka boss Professor J-S and a solo effort from Kudos, one half of the mighty Sound Proof Productions. Look out for the last two releases of 2006 from Boka featuring big new bass scientists -- Night Walker and The Others. 'Can't Sleep': After previous releases on Boka and Undergrowth Music, the Professor has been busy in the lab designing new bass bombs. 'Can't Sleep' is all about minimal sub pressure with its stripped down structure and pulsating bass -- one for the sound systems. 'Weirdo's Welcome': After the big success of the Ruggard EP, Sound Proof return with a solo effort from Kudos. This track does not waste any time before jumping into head cracking beats and a bass that hacks like a chainsaw.

MRK1- TINKERBELL 12” (boka, uk)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… After the devastation caused by the last release from Emalkay, Boka sees the return of the mighty MRK1 from Manchester's Virus Syndicate with a big four track EP. With previous releases on Rephlex and Soulja, and a debut album on Planet Mu, MRK1 has staked his claim as being one of the most talented and consistent underground producers in the UK. 'Tinkerbell' builds with quirky sounds, before the lights go out and the dark bass drops. 'Deadman': Tight strings and crisp hi-hats lead the track into a typical MRK1 two note bassline which is backed up my menacing strings. 'Trench Walk': With more gun shots than an average American film, 'Trench Walk' stomps along with low-end anger -- a track for the Boka tank! 'Quiver': The EP finishes off with one of the coldest, darkest electro mood-step tracks of 2006.

FRACTURE/COMPOUND ONE- THE PHONECALL/LOOK SHOOK 12” (compound one, uk)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*Compound One #2 sees the release of Fracture's long awaited 'The Phonecall,' with its eerie stalker vibes, skunk-infested old skool breaks, and filthy, cavernous bass line. The bass line pressure intensifies on the flip side with 'Look Shook,' which sees Fracture and Qualifide re-bonding as Compound One. A deceptively minimal intro gives way to a havoc-inducing bass line switch up, bound to cause wreckage! Both tracks have had extensive play from the likes of Distance, Scientist, Slimzee, Appleblim, Slaughter Mob, Headhunter, and Scuba, to name a few.

F1- THE PENG 12” (crater, uk)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*F1 has been sighted in collaborative production with the highly rated Kromestar -- and opening up, there's two priceless extra pieces to the Richie Spice 'Marijuana' lick employed by Coki to such great effect earlier this summer -- super heavy low-end wobbles and spooked-out strings grace an undeniably useful plate. Recommended.

OCTOBER- INVITATION 12” (caravan, uk)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*Much anticipated follow-up from the Tectonic-affiliated Caravan Recordings, the second release for the label head October, furthering the minimal techno with dubstep influences, wrecking shit from LDN to Berlin.

V/A- LICENSE TO THRILL PART ONE 12” (dub police, uk)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*restocked… essential 3-part 12" series. A-side: Caspa - 'Ooh R Ya': Kicking off the License To Thrill series is the long-awaited banger, 'Ooh R Ya.' This one has been battered by the likes of N-Type, Rusko, The Others and of course, Caspa. It's an 'in your face stomper,' with an absolutely outrageous bass line with bundles of energy and signature sample, Caspa sets the pace for the License To Thrill series. Side B1: Orien - 'Equinox': the debut track from the latest edition to the Dub Police camp: West London's Orien. This one is a spaced-out roller with warping, squelching bass lines and eerie growling synths that keep you moving; expect to hear more forthcoming Dub Police material from the man like Orien. Side B2: L-Wiz - 'Mary Jane': Dub Police veterans L-Wiz come with another melodic dubwize track that has been in public demand for a while now. This is standard L-Wiz business, with dubbed-out horns, plucked spacey guitars and a deep weighty sub. This one's a right Bobby Dazler from Stockholm's finest and adds a nice diversity to the EP.

V/A- LICENSE TO THRILL PART TWO 12” (dub police, uk)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*restocked… 3-part 12" series. A1. Rusko - 'Original Cut': Rusko strikes again, with another devastating anthem that has gained support from Skream, Hatcha, Tubby and N-Type, to name a few. With its cheeky melodies, rasta man samples and a seriously heavy bass line, this won't fail to disappoint. Fans of tracks like 'Jahova,' will be digging this one for sure; dub-driven madness from the man of the moment. B1. Matty G - 'Street Knowledge': Matty G comes with another earth shattering monster of a tune here; and fans of his '50,000 Watts' style tracks will not be disappointed. If sub-low bass that rattles your chest plate and old skool beats laced with hip-hop samples is your cup of tea, this is the one for you. B2. Dubwoofa - 'Devoliz': Dub Police newbie's Dubwoofa make their debut in fine style here. The track has a dark, epic and mystical feel to it, with big reverbed beats, a low rumbling sub bass and brilliant atmospheric pads and instrumentation, this is just a taste of things to come from these guys.

V/A- LICENSE TO THRILL PART THREE 12” (dub police, uk)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*restocked… 3-part 12" series. A1. Conquest - 'Forever': West London's Conquest kicks off Part 3 of the License To Thrill series with this deep and soulful track that has gained from support from the likes of Chef, D1 and Caspa, amongst others. With its clever and well-chosen sampling, sweet melodies, tribal driven beats and thumping bass it's a sure winner. B1. The Others - 'Light Up Your Spliff': following on from their recent Dub Police single; The Others' long-awaited 'Light Up Your Spliff' finally sees plastic. With sharp amen breaks under a stomping beat, a vicious bass line and the catchy vocal courtesy of The Bush Chemists, this is bound to get any dancefloor moving; more dark, moody bass action from D-Code and Dexterous. B2. Kromestar - 'Focuz': rounding off the EP is the Dub Police debut for South London's Kromestar. This techno-driven stomper has been battered by all the big guns and is sure to get you skanking. With a big dark 4x4 beat, a weighty bass and dirty techno stabs, this one is a serious neck -reaker. Another massive release for the ever-growing Dub Police.

KROMESTAR VS HATCHA- THE TWIN TOWERS EP 12” (dubsteppers, uk)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… This is the massive EP from two heavy weight dubstep artists Kromestar and Hatcha! The Twin Towers EP is the debut release on the brand new Dub Step Recordings label. This banging three track release features 'Ridick,' 'Twin Towers' and 'Fuel Head.'

DROID- SCOTTY 12” (dubsteppers, uk)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… Droid weighs in with a true anthem in the form of 'Scotty,' with 'Red Indian' keeping the pressure up and 'Hurrikane' calmer than the name suggests.

QUANTUM SOUL- WAITING ON DUB/OPEN SKIES 12” (dubting, uk)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*Dub Ting are a label that do exactly what they say on the tin -- mighty chucks of club-destroying dub that are bound to get everyone in the club up. On this release, Leighton Buzzard's Quantum Soul gives up some spooky speaker abuse with glimpses of a long forgotten reggae record floating around behind layers of top production. On the B-side, things get really intense with a long, drawn-out intro, perfect for giving your crowd a rest before the beat drops.

IKONIKA- PLEASE/SIMULACRUM 12” (hyperdub, uk)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*On her debut release, Ikonika presents a unique, warped yet soulful bleep sound. Both tunes are one minute minimal, one minute maximal, driven along by Ikonika's special combination of wonky synth and deep swingin' sub bass melodies that place them somewhere between an early, blocky grime instrumental and the sweeter side of Detroit techno -- except with better bass, of course! Who needs a vocalist when your synth can sing like this?

FORSAKEN & DIEM- SUBSTRATUM EP PT. 2 12” (immerse, uk)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… This is a weighty 2-part release featuring a clutch of new producers repping from Bristol to Barcelona, all supplying tunes designed to work as well off the dance floor as on it. Part 2. Forsaken's 'Thunder' kicks off with a warm boom bass and fathoms-deep space ethereals, then the devastating reese line comes out of nowhere to hit you right between the eyes. Finally, new artist Diem serves up 'Sitar Dub,' a stone cold killer with air-bulging LFOs to complement the huge echo chamber snares and classic dread samples. Reviews in IDJ and ATM Mag. Radio & club play Rob Smith (Smith & Mighty), Pinch (Tectonic), Appleblim (Skulldisco), kidkut (Noir), Thinking (Noir), Wedge (SubFM).

DJUNYA/BORG BRAHMAN- DUB/FROGMAN/KISSES 12” (immerse, uk)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*Subtle yet effective dubstepping minimalism (in a good way) from Djunya (pronounced 'Junior') and Borg. Borg's 'Frogman' even gets a bit breaky, with a trumpet finding its way in there with unexpectedly good results. This 12" really tries to break out of the dubstep mould, and sure would add a bit of variety to all record boxes around the world.

SECRET AGENT GEL & WARRIOR QUEEN- BODY/REFINED 12” (low motion, usa)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*Low Motion: The sound of NYC in the present is urban motion; body-shaking energy from jackhammers, 4 AM bassbins, the subway rumble. International in scope and dancefloor in focus, Low Motion aims to be NYC's premier label to push dubstep and dubstep-inspired music to the people -- sounds that move you from from inside out and below via massive sub-bass, cracking snares, and dubwise sounds from around the globe. The record label is headed by Dub War crew member Secret Agent Gel and renowned percussionist/producer Sharmaji. They've already had their dubs spun by DJs as varied as Mary Anne Hobbs, Pete Tong, and Bobby Friction & Nihal (Radio 1), Whistla and Quiet Storm (RinseFM), Nerm (BBC Asian Network), and DJ/Rupture (WFMU New York).

JUJU/DJUNYA- SHE/SUB SOL 12” (narcohz, uk)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*Dirty news, Dirty frequencies, dirty Hz, Juju and Djunya go head-to-head. Supported around the globe by DJ Distance, DMZ, N-Type, Joe Nice, Pinch & DJ Craze.

DJUNYA- ITES 12” (narcohz, uk)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… From San Francisco, DJ Unya takes chunks of digital & analog frequencies picked from the funk tree of music. Then twisted, morphed, tweaked, peaked, freaked, stretched, synched, linked, & chopped. Ultimately to be dropped at high volume on very large sound systems!

TES LA ROK- GUNSHOT 12” (narcohz, uk)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… Tes La Rok is one of Helsinki's underground music pioneers. He is responsible for organizing numerous raves in the last eight years. Right now, he focuses on organizing monthly 'Step Ahead' dubstep raves along with Dead-O and Sire. The trio also maintains the Finnish dubstep forum 'Step Ahead.'

JUJU- PUNKS/MOGERA 12” (narcohz, uk)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… Got to be the biggest tune on the dubstep scene right now, and a rewind every time. 'Punk' is one big stinkin rolling slap of DUB FUNK! Supported around the globe by DJ Distance, DMZ, N Type, Joe Nice, Pinch & DJ Craze.

CASPA- LOUDER 12” (pitch black, uk)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*Fresh from mixing the latest Fabric 37 CD with Rusko, this 12" is further proof that Caspa is killing dancefloors across the globe. A blend of dark narcotic melancholy and up front torrential dancefloor delight, all wrapped in cavity filling ridiculous low-end bass destruction and punk attitude. Caspa been making beats and selling hooky daz ultra for about 1 year. The idea behind the name 'Caspa' come from the film Kids.

ELEMENTAL/MATHHEAD- BLEEP/STAGGER DUB 12” (pitch black, uk)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… Your next installment of sci-fi-tinged beats, pushing the darker, evil twin of dubstep. Featuring two tracks from artists pushing the envelope. Elemental: 'Bleep' -- Having released material on Hotflush and Destructive Recordings, North London-based producer Elemental continues to raise his game on this release. 'Bleep' is a futuristic dancefloor destroyer, laced with Elemental's signature hypnotizing synth riffs and distorted, dubbed-out basslines. Elemental continues to gel the more harder style with a blatant dub influence, making his productions very distinctive, consistently breaking the mould every time. Mathhead: 'Stagger Dub' -- Brooklyn-based producer Mathhead blesses us with a slice of his dark, electro influenced dubstep. 'Stagger Dub' is a raw and brutal LFO driven halfstep tearout. Reggae licks and a twisted synth build up into a disgusting drop. Shattering snares and industrial sonics assault the senses, making it hard not to skank out to this track.

SCARECROW/SEARCH & DESTROY- WAVESCAPE: VEX'D REMIX 12” (pitch black, uk)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… Search & Destroy presents: 'Pitch Black,' Sister label of 'Destructive Recordings.' Providing a launch pad for the lesser known, more experimental, 'out there,' sci-fi tinged, evil twin of dubstep. We want to supply an avenue for the darker, deeper, bass-heavy side of underground dance music. This is the first of many releases from the stable of producers pushing that envelope, science fiction music. Keeping the vibes 'Pitch Black.' Search & Destroy: 'Wavescape (Vex'd Remix)' -- Search & Destroy gets the Vex'd abusive touch on this refix. Plunging the listener into a chasm of renegade frequencies. Starting slowly with stuttered vocals and effects, building up into their signature helping of distorted bass and rolling beats, Vex'd twist this track out in their own unclassifiable style, like the black sheep of dubstep. Scarecrow: 'Taken.' New kid on the block, Scarecrow, provides his debut release in the form of 'Taken.' A mysterious producer who has caught the attention of many with his evil, minimal sound. 'Taken' is a dark, almost gothic journey into the future. Sultry, distant vocals pull you into this futuristic, bass-induced halfstep roller.

KING CANNIBAL- CALL ME MR. COLD BLOODED 12” (rag and bone, uk)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*'Call Me Mr. Cold Blooded' takes things to a shockingly new level. King Cannibal (a new moniker for seasoned producer Zilla), uses the essence of drum & bass by the likes of Limewax, SPL, Technical Itch and re-works the sound into a breakstep epic. The second track 'Hundred Eyes Closed' is loosely dubstep but goes somewhere darker and more twisted.

WARLOCK- WINDOW SMASHER 12” (rag and bone, uk)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… The first offering this year from Rag & Bone's very own Warlock. Two of the three tracks explore his unique turbulent breakbeat style that has surfaced on many earlier releases for the label as well as his output on Dirty Needles. 'Window Smasher,' the lead track takes on the essence of late nineties drum & bass in the vein of DJ Die or Krust but reworks it into a breakstep mover. Chopped and filtered breaks combine with a bassline of speaker shaking proportions while an array of sci-fi synths and ghostly FX complete this very full picture. Definitely one for the rewind crew. 'Pistols At Dawn' harnesses several more rattling breaks and retro loops, but heads in an altogether different direction. Nervously switching and jittering from beat to break, 'Pistols At Dawn' is somehow held together by a hammering square wave bass, but you're still rendered unsure of quite what's gonna happen next.

FZV- ASSIMILATOR/LEVIATHAN 12” (rag and bone, uk)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*restocked… Shedding his electronic skin like a snake, FZV steps it up several gears on the latest jammy from Rag and Bone. Brutal industrial break-step, 'Assimilator' is shot through with exterminating soundsystem stabs and schizoid fills -- this is one definitely not for the faint of heart, and yet shows the natural progression of many electronica artists into a tougher, more uncompromising dancefloor-ready stance these days. Flip for a murked out remix of 'Leviathan' by Blackmass Plastics, adding more definition to the drums, slasher film washes and a killer bassed-out jump-up attitude.

WARLOCK- JUST A FACE IN THE STREET 12” (rag and bone, uk)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*restocked… The return of the excellent Warlock : Oil and gak spattered machine rhythms are salvaged from the hardcore scrap-yard and battered into warehouse smashing rudeboy assaults on 'Just a Face In the Street,' raving breaks are spot welded onto the attitude and sound design of Einsturzende Neubauten, with the same ideas utilized on 'Ghost Dog.' 'Cellar Door' drops the tempo to a Saaf London strut down a dark alley of controlled weirdness style electro. Consistently tough tackle from south of the river...Killer!

BLACK MASS PLASTICS- FOUR ACES 12” (rag and bone, uk)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… Blackmass Plastics returns for his second release on Rag & Bone. A fantastic follow-up exploring break-step and dub-step territories with a twisted edge. He first came to prominence working with the Dead Silence Collective in the mid 90's. Producing a good stack of celebrated electro and d&b tracks for their Audio Illusion imprint alongside cohorts Dexorcist and Bass Junkie. Blackmass is also the founder of 2 labels. Thorn Industries -- a cult underground label dedicated to alternative industrial electronics. And Dirty Needles currently receiving good props from those on both the dub-step and electro scenes.

WARLOCK- FULL TILT 12” (rag and bone, uk)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… There's something immediately right about Warlock's readiness to mash together dubstep, old hardcore sensibilities and plain old fashioned bass rinsing. 'Full Tilt' is an irrepressible shocka, samba-dubstep would be our genre for it, if pushed, but actually it doesn't matter when the abandon is as wild as this. Dropping the needle on the record instigates a drop through a liftshaft, the break is punctuated with huge bata style Brazilian drums, whoops of ecstasy inna the dance, ride cymbals for the true steppers and militant New York guerilla drums, all pitched against drizzly ghost town grime stabs. Favela grime may or may not be the next big thing, but Warlock is sure to mash up any hall with this fearsome beast of a tune -- addictive stuff... simply massive overload material, hardcore low end science.

NOYEAHNO- THE BABYLON-DON 12” (rag and bone, uk)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… Erupting from one of the freshest scenes in the last few years, UK garage renamed dubstep, owing to an evolution toward a darker more techy production edge, the leading lights have been a few small labels coming outta South London, and at the forefront is the Rag and Bone label. Totter 4 drops hard and heavy on the deck, kicking off with the aptly named 'Brixton Bells'. Suitably dark, the beats open the 12" with sharp clanging drums creating a steppers rhythm, these build up until the destructive bassline drops and completely mashes it up, this is how you rock a floor. Harking back to the hardcore days of the early '90s with Hoover sounds and a direct, hedonistic disregard for subtlety, NoYeahNo crafts amazingly simple yet rocking tracks backed by heavy sounds, searing synths, Brixton bells and some classic little vocal samples.

HOUSE, TECHNO AND DISCO

DIPLO- DIPLO RHYTHM 12” (big dada, uk)
15.98usd/8.11gbp/10.95eur/1731jpy (approx)

*restocked… In keeping with the celebratory spirit of Big Dada’s ten years in the business, the label is reissuing three of its most amazing 12-inches (all of which have been out of print since their initial release). Each 12-inch will be packaged with brand new Well Deep labels, and be housed in deluxe, bright, thick card inner sleeves with heavy duty “vinyl protector” PVC outer sleeves, which are screen printed in the style of the Well Deep compilation cover.
Producer, DJ, digger, and lover of workd wide urban culture, DIPLO, kicked out the “Diplo Rhythm” back when his debut album Florida (BDCD 69) dropped in 2004. This was the most bangin’ cut off the album and the single honors us with the rhythm plus three different vocal versions from SANDRA MELODY, PANTERA OS DANADINHOS and VYBZ CARTEL. Limited edition pressing.

SASCHA FUNKE- MANGO 2LP (bpitch control, germany)
19.98usd/10.14gbp/13.69eur/2165jpy (approx)

*This is the second full-length release on bpitch control by Berlin-based DJ and producer, Sascha Funke. After several 12" releases and remix projects, Sascha presents Mango, a fully-ripe evocation of the beauty of the six months he spent in Aix-en-Provence. Like its forerunner Bravo, you won't hear 08/15 speed-techno with 140 bpm -- but a fresh and direct, catchy sound that is the antidote to boredom. "Mango" and "We Are Facing The Sun" opens the release with warmth and "Feather" makes you picture elves dancing in a meadow. "Take A Chance With Me" builds it up, while "Summer Rain" cools things down. The gravelly-affected vocals on "Double-Checked" are sung by Fritz Zander, and other guest musicians include Fritz Kalkbrenner and Tim Tim, whose sparsely twanged guitar creates a lot of space within the songs. "Lotre" fits perfectly into the barbeque: the bass develops like embers and hides behind rhythms and sounds, until Sascha's vocals catch sparks. "Chemin Des Figons" is the beautiful street Sascha lived on a year ago in Aix-en-Provence, and you'll want to walk it again and again. Finally, "The Fortune Cookie" finishes everything off with a strident, harmonic sing-a-long that will fit everywhere, whether you're enjoying a nice day at the park or a crazy underground rave.

HUGG & PEPP- MORMORS HOSTA 12” (dahlback recordings, sweden)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*Every Friday Hugg & Pepp sits down to have their mid day break after having a sturdy lunch at the party makers. Pepp is usually not late to suggest that something sweet should be consumed during this time in order to get inspiration and joy. Hugg, who is also known for his sense of culinary experiences sometimes surprises Pepp with exciting creations from all corners of the world. This particular Friday, the team has chosen the mormors hosta, a typical Swedish bread in which a special yellow fudge, the hosta, can be found in the middle of this delicious bakery dedicated to our beloved grandmother. Pepp, who is specially found of the hosta, also suggested that the two would make a tribute to grandfather so they wrapped the mormors hosta in a farfars kofta into a roll, then split it in half and feasted on this magnificent little piece in a cheerful mood. After this, filled up and satisfied they returned to their mystery machine and started to feed it with this new recipe. At first the machine returned some strange messages but after correcting the proportions between the amount of hosta and bread the machine successfully coughed up a banging bassline. Encouraged by this the team continued to develop the program and soon they found the key formula incorporating four important ingridients. These ingredients are the mormor, the hosta , the farfar and finally the kofta.

DAN GHENACIA- GARDEN 12” (freak n’ chic, france)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*Freak n'Chic begins 2008 with the first ever solo EP release from label-head Dan Ghenacia -- the 'Garden' EP. Since beginning Freak n'Chic in 2003, Dan Ghenacia has released tracks from Shonky, Jamie Jones, :Terry:, Marc Antona, Davide Squillace, Sebastian Bouchet, David K and more. Through the label's releases and also the Freak n'Chic parties -- which started on a Sunday evening in 2004 at Le Zebre (an old theatre on the outskirts of Paris) and are now held around the world including Ibiza, Germany, Spain, Italy and the UK, he has established and developed a signature sound for the label that reaches beyond its Parisian home-ground. For the label's 25th release Ghenacia releases his first ever solo EP release -- the 'Garden' EP. Garden plays a sinister 'hi-end' above an ever rolling dubbed groove which never stopping pushes forward -- designed to trip your mind side-ways. Cycles brings deeper, dubby vibes to the foreground; ominous synths weave throughout whilst the bass rolls heavy and the added squelch detail keeps you moving... Late night flavours. Dan Ghenacia has also produced with artists including Chris Carrier, David K (as U&I), David Duriez, Phil Weeks and Sweet Light, releasing on labels including Crosstown Rebels, Brique Rouge and Adult Only.

GUI BORATTO- THE RIVINGTON 12” (galaktika, spain)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… With The Rivington EP, Galaktika treads the boards of electronic lyricism with strength. Produced by the Brazilian Gui Boratto, a composer that has published with the best labels on the planet, this track is the product of vibrant pads, gloomy melodies and the DJ's thorough vision of electronica. The Rivington EP is pure synthetic feeling, it is the catalyst that brings together the indietronic psychedelia of Morr Music with the dancefloor effervescence of Border Community. The remix of 'Rivington Suite' is the work of a well-known member of the family, Martinez, who turns around the emotion of the track and gives it a swift and pounding rhythm. The track is sustained on the darkness of minimal and the acoustic textures of electro: the entire cut is bathed with fragmented synthesizers that tie with a deep and hypnotic bassline. This remix is the perfect piece to liven up the dancefloor and break all bounds.

GARNICA- HIELO SOBRE ARENA 12” (galaktika, spain)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… Rafael Garnica, member of the collective 'Los Andes Electronicos' and ex-drummer of the Venezuelan rock band Submarino, publishes his second reference in Galaktika. 'Hielo Sobre Arena' makes a wink to the minimal aesthetic but it surpasses the conventionalisms thanks to the deepness of his pads. His continued crescendo is pure emotion and the entry of the bassline marks the point of no return. 'Hielo Sobre Arena' is the track that the DJ has to fit in the exact time, could be the beginning of a tremendous end. On side B, Garnica hardens his proposal and the atmosphere is so dark, like delirious. 'Laderas' is perverse and exciting, a jewel for the body and the soul. Matzak remix (debut album on Boxer Sport) is the next step, but in another direction, the French producer offers his version in a more electro-techno key. From the drawings of Garnica, Matzak invents his own epic version. Venezuela vs. France, the organic virtuosity of Garnica and the synthetic forcefulness of Matzak.

ORIOL BENEDET- THE CLOWN: JOACHIM SPIETH REMIX 12” (galaktika, spain)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… Benedet, a studio virtuoso and professional technician, exploits in his second maxi the infinite possibilities of today's virtual samplers. 'The Clown' is a piece of work that does not rely on pre-established sounds. It is a lesson about the creative potential of the machines. 'The Clown' with roaring dynamics, Benedet opens the maxi with a palpitating drum bass, dry and clean. As the beats develop, the pounding techno makes way for the melodic subtleties of trance, whilst clicks and other crafty sounds appear almost unnoticeable. And this is when 'The Clown' develops into a hypnotic and endless mix of harmonies, groove and beats. Maxi after maxi, step by step, Galaktika is becoming the object of desire of many stars of the electronica.

INAQUI MARIN- HOW TO PLAY PHANTOMLY 12” (galaktika, spain)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… One of the uprising talents from the Spanish scene. His sound connects with German Minimal Techno (Berlin - Cologne) and he fuses actual tendencies keeping the essences of the classic electronic sound. His music shines specially for his personal sound, a sound that he manages to establish in his own productions, he shows us these in Klinischtod, his debut album for the label Regular, definitely a record of reference in the actual electronic scene. In 'How To Play Phantomly,' Iñaqui Marín chooses for a classical sound and built his speech for the dance floor. Dark, on side B, behaves shamelessly, it completes a 'single' that shows us an artist in constant evolution.

LUTZENKIRCHEN- PAPERBOY 12” (great stuff, germany)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*The most productive artist of the Munich family is back with his 6th release on Great Stuff. And it's surprising as ever with its jazzy licks and jumping groove. Next to this outstanding tech-house track it's the incredible rework by D-Nox & Beckers with their peak time minimal techno that will guarantee screaming floors all over the world. 'Mimic' is Lützenkirchen's excursion into deep Bavarian afterhour minimalism at its best.

V/A- GREAT CARNIVAL STUFF EP VOLUME 2 12” (great stuff, germany)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*The compilation tracks by Lützenkirchen, Swen Weber, Fergie (produced with Gregor Tresher) and Wehbba. Taken from the Great Carnival Stuff compilation. It's Carnival time all over the world and Great Stuff comes up with its first compilation full of exclusive carnival goodies from their artists and friends. Infected by the groove and spirit of Rio, Venice, Trinidad Tobago, Cologne/Mainz, Mardi Gras. 11 artists from all over the world (Wehbba from Brazil, Fergie from Ireland, Florian Meindl from London, Koletzki and Namito from Berlin) produced exclusive tracks for that compilation. And obviously they had to capture the carnival vibe and transform it into an outstanding track. Oliver Koletzki and Swen Weber were in full samba feeling, while Butch was inspired by his hometown carnival in Mainz/Germany and Florian Meindl by Venice/Italy. Other artists like Namito, Nudisco and Stephan Hinz used the percussive aspect of carnival for their track which definitely resulted in a great groove. By the way, Irish techno god Fergie did his production together with Gregor Tresher to make it real Great Carnival Stuff.

GUI BORATTO- ATOL: REMIXES 12” (harthouse, germany)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… Hardly any Brazilian artist has gained as much reputation in the past year as Sao Paulo-based architect, musician, composer and producer Gui Boratto whose spatial and mystical take on music has made him one of the most sought-after producers around. With his versatile releases on labels as varied as Speicher, Kompakt Pop, Circle, Killabeat and Plastic City. Dedicating himself to developing his own distinctive style, playfully light yet driving techhouse, Gui enchants people all around the world, 'Atol 2007' being a wonderful example of his masterful craftsmanship. Based on a beautiful melody that light-heartedly carries through the night, this record leaves an impact, especially on those looking for spirited club sounds. Backed up with two powerful remixes by some of the most talented and demanded producers around -- Frankfurt acid trance techno gods Hardfloor and Circle's Alex Flatner, this new Boratto record on the renowned Harthouse imprint should be going down a treat.

JENS ZIMMERMANN- REDUCTION, SEDUCTION 12” (harthouse, germany)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… Zimmermann alias Jens Zimmermann aka Tyrell Corp. aka DJ Gargamel is constantly changing yet always the same: a damn good producer. Now, in 2007, after years of noise research and sound sculpting, he is re-emerging as Zimmermann which stands for 'new German minimal sound.' After three much-celebrated releases, aptly called 'Zimmermann #1,' '#2' and '#3' on Room Recordings, which were severely hyped up by Germany's house fraternity, and releases and remixes on Boxersport, K2, and HiFreaks as well as on Harthouse Mannheim, the future is looking bright for Jens. Something he is proud to share with all of those who tune into his reduced, contemporary sound. A1: 'Reduction, Seduction': the art of seducing lies in the tiny changes and the fine sound-shaping capabilities Jens displays with this slow but very potently grooving track that gets them all in the end. Subtle yet powerful. B1: 'G.L.U.X.': Talking about tricky, tiny modulations, this is where Zimmermann, at his finest, dishes up a whole armada of strangely bleeping synths, which, in stark contrast to the dark and rumbling, compelling bass, lead the head astray while the body pumps away.

GLASS CANDY- BEATBOX CD (Italians do it better, usa)
13.98usd/7.10gbp/9.58eur/1515jpy (approx)

CHROMATICS- IV: NIGHT DRIVE ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK RECORDING CD (Italians do it better, usa)
13.98usd/7.10gbp/9.58eur/1515jpy (approx)

*restocked… Italians Do It Better rolls on with their latest offering. Nite Drive is the latest chromatics tour cd turned-actual-release due to consumer demand. Like the After Dark compilation, the response was so great (thank you, Pitchfork), the label had to do a proper pressing. Like all idib releases, this one is limited (1,000 copies) and will probably not be repressed. Vinyl will be released sometime this year.

V/A- AFTER DARK CD (Italians do it better, usa)

HEIKO LAUX- DUBFIX 12” (kanzleramt, germany)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*The idea for 'Dubfix' was already sketched out right after the production for the Waves album. Now, finally the song got his club-dress on. Hardcell & Grindvik took Heiko's 'Sharpened' to their board and designed it very modern from the scratch.

LAVEN & MSO FEAT. MALTE- REACH 12” (klang elektronik, germany)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*Laven & MSO, the two producers from Frankfurt, put so much pop appeal into the vocal mix of "Reach" (feat. Malte) that colleagues like Fischerspooner should prepare themselves: the whole gorgeous ten minutes of this track have enough power to atomize every nightclub into dust. On the flip is a killer old school acid instrumental.

GUI BORATTO- CHROMOPHOBIA 2LP (kompakt, germany)
19.98usd/10.14gbp/13.69eur/2165jpy (approx)

*restocked… This is the long-awaited, highly-anticipated debut full-length release from architect, producer, musician and composer, Gui Boratto, born in São Paulo, Brazil. Those who have followed his steady stream of 12" singles are already well acquainted with his remarkable ear for coming up with emotive, savvy dance music. Whether it be his minimal-techno burners for Kompakt's K2 imprint, energetic house for Steve Bug's Audiomatique Recordings and Plastic City, and of course, there was "Like You," the sensational pop-techno anthem that broke him wide open on the international circuit early last year. Though he recently began producing under his real name (debuting with a remix for the film City Of God), what many don't know about Gui Boratto is that for over 10 years he has been one of Brazil's most in-demand producers having worked with such consecrated artists/bands as Pato Banton, Steel Pulse, Desiree, Manu Chao and many, many others. With Chromophobia, Boratto surpasses all experience and expectation with infinite catchy hooks, lazy synths, romantic vocals, and so many shimmering techno-colors, it'll make your eyes squint in the sunshine. Many scribes spoke that last year was the year techno learned how to make a proper artist album. Well, Boratto very well could be the first to perfect the art with this momentous release. It's easy to coin Gui Boratto as "varied" and "eclectic," however, Gui brings a vast spectrum of influences together with an uncanny sensibility to make arguably THE seminal Kompakt record filled with all the grace and roar in the world to shake the bottoms of the biggest dance haters out there, and get our fans so excited they'll feel like they're on their fifth caipirinha raving on top of the Sugarloaf.

GUI BORATTO- CHROMOPHOBIA: REMIXES PART 1 12” (kompakt, germany)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… Gui Boratto has taken the techno universe by assault with his album, Chromophobia, so it's only logical that it practically begs for remixes. On the A-side we find an enormously exquisite "Mr.Decay" version by Robert Babicz, that has everything that a good remix needs, which keeps the original recognizable, yet is full of interpretations and surprises. On the B-side, darling of the hour The Field mixes "Hera," holding all the unmistakable, fantastic, futuristic qualities everyone loves about this track and about The Field.

GUI BORATTO- CHROMOPHOBIA: REMIXES PART 2 12” (kompakt, germany)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… The second part of the Chromophobia Remixe series is purely dedicated to "Beautiful Life." The original version got re-mastered and re-cut in order to blow up each and every open-air summer jam. Gui Boratto himself provides a dense remix that translates the exuberant original into a dark and sexy club version. BPitch's Sascha Funke did what he does best: he transformed "Beautiful Life" into a cheeky little heartbreaker.

DJ AMAZING CLAY- BAILE FUNK MASTERS #4 12” (man recordings, germany)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*Baile Funk Masters #4 is 100% authentic Rio baile funk. With 27 years of DJing experience, Amazing Clay is one of Rio's most experienced DJs and one of the founders of the "Equipe Curtisom Rio," one of the earliest sound systems of baile funk. Clay presents some of his recent productions that range from samba-inspired baile funk, to tracks with chopped up film score themes to collaborations with hot young Rio talent MC Gus and MC Betta.

DJ BLAQSTARR- SHAKE IT TO THE GROUND: REMIXES 12” (mad decent, usa)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… With Baltimore club's influence seeping from the Eastern seaboard to basically everywhere else on earth, it might seem strange that the new 12" from DJ Blaqstarr - Bmore's most talented and quickest rising producer - isn't loaded with his trademark regional sound. (If you heard the Supastarr EP, it might make more sense - Blaqstarr's tracks are way darker and more intense than your average gimmick club track.) Early on, Diplo heard remix potential in "Shake It To The Ground," a track off the EP with 16(?) year old Baltimore rapper Rye Rye on vocals. From there, he basically got the Justice League of Remixers to have their way with the track: London's Switch, San Francisco's Claude VonStroke and NYC's Drop The Lime.

DJ ROCTAKON- MONEY LOTION VOLUME 1 12” (money studies, usa)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*back catalog title in stock for the first time… No more poor quality mash-ups! First in a new Money Studies series aimed at the working club DJs. Features several Baltimore tracks + '80s tracks. Includes hot Baltimore remix of 'Sunglasses At Night.' Getting play by The Rub, Spank Rock DJs, DJ Vice, Pase Rock, and others. Roctakon is a well-known Turntable Lab DJ and holds residency in NYC's top clubs including Marquee.

XXXCHANGE- MONEY LOTION VOLUME 2 12” (money studies, usa)
9.98usd/5.07gbp/6.84eur/1081jpy (approx)

*restocked… spank rock producer and worldwide party-rocker XXXchange is back with the second volume in the Money Lotion series. The A-side, "Our Love"-- is a heavy electro workout of Justin Timberlake & T.I.'s ridiculed smash hit "My Love" with elements of Britney's "Slave 4 U" and Frankie Knuckles "Your Love" (and some brand new, minty drums). On the flip, "The Knife Edit" is exactly what the title suggests, a smashing together of three tracks from Swedish indie darlings The Knife ("Silent Shout," "We Share Our Mother's Health" and "The Captain") where XXXchange attempts to "subvert the group's dark and strange lyrics and turn it into something fun and uplifting." Well, mission accomplished, as Mr. Armani tacks on his own drums, pianos and synths, then gets underground dweller MC Juiceboxxx to record some additional vocals. XXXchange says the whole edit is loosely based on Derrick May's house classic "Strings Of Life," and it really comes across in the old school house/techno vibe. Limited to 500 copies worldwide, so don't nap.

DJ ELI- MONEY LOTION VOLUME 4 12” (money studies, usa)
9.98usd/5.07gbp/6.84eur/1081jpy (approx)

*restocked… DJ Eli is the DJ’s champ. Most every big-name club DJ has some of Eli's remixes in their arsenal. And for good reason, DJ Eli's remixes are unparalleled. Sometimes he will build a completely new song from a popular acapella, sometimes he'll use just the right amount of editing and extra drums to give a classic track some extra punch in the club. This volume of the super-popular Money Lotion DJ series features six of Eli's most in-demand remixes, and also marks the first time any of his white label remixes have been pressed on vinyl. Limited edition.

SCOTTIE B. FEAT. CHAVY BOYS OF LONDON- MONEY LOTION VOLUME 5 12” (money studies, usa)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*Back by popular demand... Scottie B returns to the Money Lotion series, and this time he brought friends. Chavy Boys of London are the new Bmore supergroup, featuring Scottie and Shawn Caesar (co-founders of the legendary Unruly Records) and Scottie's longtime collaborator, King Tutt. The Boys run wild on this one, mixing 80s party rap classics, bhangra beats, a well-known dubstep track, an even better-known pop idol, and that shouty guy from Atlanta who seems to end up on a lot of Bmore tracks. Forget all the fakers and half-steppers -- this is true Baltimore club music done right, and it doesn't get more hype than that!

DJ AYRES- I LIKE MAKE DANCE 12” (smelly fatso, usa)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*The Rub's DJ Ayres proves once again that he like make dance of all kind with this diverse EP of dance / house remixes and edits. The A-side keeps it more current with Kid Sister's "Pro Nails" vs. Surkin's "Radio Fireworks," Masters At Work's "Work" vs. South Rakkas' Chinkuzi riddim, and a drumline remix of Pharrell & Twista's "Give It Up" (a team-up with Canada's Smalltown DJs). The B-side is focused on house classics, including Bmore edits of Lidell Townsell's "Nu Nu" and 4Hero's "Mr. Kirk's Nightmare," and a seriously beautiful club version of Black Box's "Everybody Everybody." Are those sleestaks on the center label? More ammo for your crate from Ayres.

A-TRAK & THE RUB- SUNGLASSES IS A MUST: BLENDS 12” (smelly fatso, usa)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… Exclusive club-tested remixes from the recent A-Trak & The Rub tour. Outkast vs. Kanye (A-Trak), Mr. Collipark Breaks (A-Trak & Ayres), Ying Yang & Pitbull vs. Yaz (Ayres), Outkast vs. Bloc Party (Cosmo Baker), Project Pat vs. 2 Live Crew (A-Trak), E-40 & Keak Da Sneak vs. Laid Back (A-Trak), Lil Keke & Paul Wall & Ugk vs. Twilight 22, Sunglasses In Baltimore (Ayres).

THE RUB- PARTY MEDLEYS VOLUME 1 12” (smelly fatso, usa)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*Basically the record is 4 medleys, about 6 minutes long each, in four different genres (at four different tempos). The idea was to have one record for Serato DJs to keep in their bag that could be used at any tempo when the DJ needs to play a real record, for example when switching computers out so the next DJ can play. Each side is a continuous 12 minutes, so that is also valuable if you have to run to the bathroom, or if you're a beginner, just to throw on at a party. It's all quick mixed, NYC party style, but with intros and outros to each medley for mixing, and it's easy enough to just run a couple songs off of it.

THE RUB- PARTY MEDLEYS VOLUME 5 12” (smelly fatso, usa)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*collection of club-tested mash-ups and remixes from some of New York’s finest djs. You get eight no-filler tracks taken from the rub remixes cd, featuring cuts from diplo, paul nice, nick catchdubs, cosmo baker, dj eleven, dj crooked, and dj ayers.

THE RUB- PARTY MEDLEYS VOLUME 6 12” (smelly fatso, usa)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*With The Rub DJ's starting to attract the steely gaze of EMAP and IPC, there's every chance these remix 12's (of which we're now on volume six) will soon enter the Diplo school of reverence amongst those who like to have a mash up. Featuring contributions from A-Trak DJ Eleven, Paul Nice and Cosmo Baker, there seems to be something to keep every palate sated - with particular highlights including the Ghostface collision with 'Africa', A-Trak's cannibalization of Grace Jones and the Bangles-hybrid of 'Egyptian Rubber' from Nick Catchdub. Given that these mash-ups should have passed their sell-by-date about five years ago, there's something unreasonably pleasurable in hearing bits of other people's songs diced and sliced into something else. Maybe it's the sun... Either way, let's get mashed! -boomkat

PAR GRINDVIK- SCORE FOR DIRECTION 12” (stockholm ltd, germany)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*2007 was a great year for Stockholm LTD with several big hit releases, all frequently dropped by big names like Richie Hawtin, Len Faki, Anja Schneider, Adam Beyer and Marco Carola. There is no doubt that 2008 will be an equally big year for Stockholm LTD and its label head Pär Grindvik. His latest releases on Spectral Sounds and Adam Beyer's True Soul imprint have been on people's lips throughout the fall season and now he will kick off the new year with another huge two-tracker on his own imprint Stockholm LTD! 'Score For Direction' is the long awaited new single from the Berlin-based Stockholm LTD label owner and musician Pär Grindvik. This release is the latest example of his interest in musical structure and sound performance. While retaining his distinctive style we see Pär evolve with more maturely arranged elements and structured ways to narrate. Whilst taking the listener into the room of performance 'Akustik' and 'Ensemble' gives a conceptual insight and leave us with a strong desire for more.

MOCK & TOOF- BEAT UP/LUCKY 12” (tiny sticks, uk)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*Following on from their release on DFA's Death From Abroad label Mock & Toof return with 'Beat Up' a superb instrumental served straight up from the psyche-cosmic-disco-house pot. Next up 'Lucky' features the vocals of young talented Glaswegian Gavin Gordon who does his thing over a tight reggae/funk influenced groove. Metro Area's Darshan Jesrani rounds the package off adding a touch of real class to Mock & Toof's debut track 'Black Jub.'

TELESPAZIO- GALILEO 12” (tiny sticks, uk)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.90eur/1406jpy (approx)

*Telespazio is a new project from rising Italian nu-disco don Fabrizio Mammarella. Fabrizio has previously released tracks on Bearfunk & Hairy Claw and has provided remixes for Brontosaurus, Michoacan & Mantra Vibes amongst others. 'Galileo' nicely shows the combination of live musicianship with Fabrizio's studio trickery -- the result being a superb heavy disco workout. Gomma's rising star Rodion adds some squelchy bass, a great string line and some nice tricks for a truly modern remix on the flip.

ELODIE O- WAKE UP WITHOUT YOU 12” (tip of the iceberg, usa)
9.98usd/5.07gbp/6.84eur/1081jpy (approx)

*nyc-based parisin elodie o makes danceable, space bachelor pad music with a hefty dose of 60's pop-obsession. Like a synth-happy stereolab with shades of contemporary acts like saint Etienne & brazilian girls and older artists like francoise hardy alike. dubblestandart remix too.

DAVE NADA- KICK OUT THE JAMS 12” (t&a, usa)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*t&a records continues their bmore club onslaught with a new ep from renaissance man dave nada. kick out the jams features six tough, ready-for-the-club Bmore edits with original synthwork from Mr. Nada (think Blaqstarr, or old Debonair Samir tracks) and instantly recognizable samples. If you're not familiar with Dave (and you will be soon), he played in several Baltimore/DC area hardcore bands before turning his focus to production and DJing; he also partners with T&A co-founder Tittsworth as a regular at the Baltimore club night Taxlo.

V/A- THE CHEDDA 12” (t&a, usa)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… Even more club heat from Ayres, Tittsworth & Associates. Do these guys sleep? Titts kicks off the A-side with Bel Biv Devoe's "Poison" chopped up in his signature style, followed by Dave Nada's "I Like Culo" (pause), a blend of "Culo" by Pitbull and "I Like To Move It Move It" which is way better than it has any right to be. Ayres' track is the one that'll have the kids going nuts though, as he unveils a slick Bmore version of Daft Punk's classic "One More Time" (with the requisite Lil Jon shouts sprinkled on top). B-side is dominated by newcomers or aliases -- who can tell anymore? -- with Top Billin's (ok, this one is real - they're from Finland) "U Don Kno Meh(4)," DJ Dub's hilarious / awesome "Set On You(5)" (George Harrison FTW) and Million Dollar Mano's "Lady(6)."

TITTSWORTH- EZ T EP 12” (t&a, usa)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… Another six track EP of cheeky Bmore club from Tittsworth on his & Ayres' T&A label. "ez" is a hilarious chopping-up of The Commodores' "Easy" complete with old 'ardcore breakbeat a la 1992 then "Cars" is a remix of "Just What I Needed" to compete with Roctakon's and "T's Diner" round out the A-side. The flip has a nice bonus beat mix of "Easy" with nicely sequenced vocals ("I wanna be hiiiiigh!") and piano at the back. Also includes the rowdy "In Yo Face" and R&B joint "Brains". Recommended, and a must for fans of Hollertronix, Diplo DJ sets etc. -phonica

TITTSWORTH AND AYERS- ULTIMATE T&A 12” (t&a, usa)
11.98usd/6.08gbp/8.21eur/1298jpy (approx)

*restocked… Ultimate T&A is chock full of Baltimore Club tracks for the dancefloor, with a common theme: all the tunes remix funk and soul hits from the 1970s! Ayres & Tittsworth enlisted an all-star cast of producers on this one: A-Trak, Kanye West’s DJ and accomplished beatmaker in his own right; DJ Taj aka Bamabounce, fresh off his own solo EP on T&A ; and DJ Eli, whose production credits span from Fondle ‘Em Records in the 90s to current work with Diplo, Pase Rock, Amanda Blank and secret stuff we can’t reveal just yet. Mike Davis (Burlesque Design) flipped the Ultimate Beats & Breaks octopus and logo on the label, tying it all together from the Bronx breakbeats to the Baltimore bangers, and we have another T&A classic! -phonica

TITTSWORTH AND AYERS- OLD BAY SEASONING 12” (t&a, usa)
9.98usd/5.07gbp/6.84eur/1081jpy (approx)

*restocked at a new lower price… It's a posse affair here, as Tittsworth, DJ Ayres, Nick Catchdubs and Jinxx and Kenny B turn in heavy Baltimore business, including mixes of Pitbull, The Four Tops, Curtis Mayfield's "Move On Up,". The biggest hitters here though are Nick and Ayres devastating rework of E-40's "Tell Me When To Go." and Tittsworth's genre classic "Bojangles". Plus a load of Baltimore bonus beats aswell! -phonica

TITTSWORTH- THE AFTER PARTY 12” (vicious pop, usa)

*The unfadeable Dr. Titts makes his return to Vicious Pop with 'The Afterparty EP', featuring five tracks of finely-diced and heavily gimmicky Bmore club. Tittsworth is riding high as one of the premier Bmore producers out right now, always lacing his tracks with unexpected housey elements, original production and whatever else he's got kicking around in his bag of tricks. Big samples abound here as Titts flips PM Dawn's 'Set Adrift On Memory Bliss' for the synth-heavy 'Dawn', The Police's 'Roxanne' for the BONKERS 'Rocksand' (those layered Sting screams are intense) and Earth Wind & Fire's 'Brazilian Rhyme' on the mellow and funky 'Rhyme'. He also freaks the Taana Gardner disco classic 'No Frills' and a joint that nobody here can quite put their finger on for 'Whips Remix'. -phonica
