RODRIGUEZ- COMING FROM REALITY LP+7” (light in the attic, usa)
26.98usd/16.65gbp/19.06eur/2599jpy (approx)
*old-school tip on jackets, liner notes, and 180 gram vinyl, plus bonus 7" of the previously unreleased cuts "Can't Get Away" and "Street Boy"… Back in 1971, Coming From Reality was Rodriguez's last gasp, the follow-up to Cold Fact and the final album he was allowed to record for the Sussex label. Unearthed, once again, by Light In The Attic Records, it's another treat for fans new and old, designed - at the time - as Rodriguez's vision of a perfect pop album. Coming From Reality found Rodriguez decamping from Detroit to London's Lansdowne Studios, where the album was recorded with some of the UK's top talent including Chris Spedding (Sex Pistols, Dusty Springfield, Harry Nilsson) and producer Steve Rowland (The Pretty Things, PJ Proby and the man who discovered The Cure), who recalls Coming From Reality as his favourite ever recording project. Highlights include the super-poppy "To Whom It May Concern", the "Rocky Raccoon"-inspired "A Most Disgusting Song" and period piece "Heikki's Suburbia Bus Tour".

Next up Creamy sees Lucci Capri work magic on a piece of unplayable disco cheese from Gregg Diamond slicing & dicing all the good bits and turning it into a wonderfully sexy bouncing Balearic disco groove that will have all the girls heading straight for the dance floor. Finally, chill out with a beautifully blissed out extended edit of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Brown Eyes’ a forgotten classic from their Tusk lp.
MULATU ASTATKE WITH THE HELIOCENTRICS- INSPIRATION INFORMATION 3 2LP (strut, germany)
23.98usd/14.80gbp/16.94eur/2310jpy (approx)
*The third in Strut’s Inspiration Information studio collaboration series brings together an intriguing pairing between one of Africa’s great bandleaders, Mulatu Astatke, with the next level musicianship of The Heliocentrics collective from the mighty roster of Stones Throw / Now Again.
Known primarily through the successful ‘Ethiopiques’ album series and the film soundtrack to Jim Jarmusch’s ‘Broken Flowers’, Mulatu Astatke is one of Ethiopia’s foremost musical ambassadors. Informed by spells living and studying in the UK and the USA, his self-styled Ethio-jazz sound flourished during the “Swinging Addis” era of the late ‘60s as he successfully fused Western jazz and funk with traditional Ethiopian folk melodies, five tone scale arrangements and elements from music of the ancient Coptic church. The Heliocentrics have become known as one of the UK’s foremost free-thinking collectives of musicians, inspired by a wide palette covering Sun Ra, James Brown, David Axelrod and all manner of psych, Afro and Eastern sounds. Now a fixture within the Stones Throw / Now Again roster, they forged their own genre-breaking directions in the astral analogue groove on their 2007 debut album, ‘Out There’. The recording liaison took place thanks to some inspired programming by Karen P for her ‘Broad Casting’ session at Cargo in London on 17th April 2008. Securing Mulatu for his first UK live date in over 15 years, she called on The Heliocentrics to back the maestro and, with only a day of rehearsal, they tore the place up with a series of original Mulatu classics, chalking up one of the most memorable gigs of the year. The show itself was recorded for Red Bull Music Academy Radio (Mulatu has been involved with the Academy for some time) and is still available to listen to on-demand at www.rbmaradio.com A Gilles Peterson Maida Vale session followed for BBC Radio One.
The new recording is a mouth-watering prospect. Driven by groove and melody ideas exchanged upfront of the sessions, the bulk of the album was laid down at Quatermass studios, an analogue HQ in East London during 8th to 14th September 2008, a week of frenetic writing and recording. Alongside Mulatu, London-based Ethiopian musicians including Dawit Gebreab, Yezina Nagash, Mesafnit Nagash and Temesgen Taraken guested on several tracks, contributing traditional sounds using instruments like the krar (a six-stringed, five tone instrument), washint (a flute traditionally made from bamboo) and Begena (a ten string instrument dating back to the 15th century, sometimes referred to as “David’s Harp”). Joel Yennior from Boston’s Either Orchestra scored and arranged the horn lines on the fly and the Heliocentrics overdubbed and arranged each track following the main recording period, adding the individual production touches to each piece of music. The result is a true fusion of styles. At times the feel is reminiscent of Mulatu’s earlier recordings, at others The Heliocentrics sound cuts through with Mulatu bringing his haunting vibes lines into more experimental territory as the band whip up their own fresh Ethio-hybrid.

THE MONKS- THE EARLY YEARS 1964-1965 2LP (light in the attic, usa)
26.98usd/16.65gbp/19.06eur/2599jpy (approx)
*Limited edition double-vinyl gatefold LP version, featuring 180 gram wax, old school tip-on jacket, lyrics and notes. Also includes 56-page Light In The Attic Records zine… Today, 'garage,' 'psych,' and 'punk' are three overused words to say the least. They're dropped from every direction to brand, market, and sell, but looking back to the mid-1960s, there was only one group of musical mavericks that clearly defined them. The Monks were five beat-playing American GIs stationed in Germany who, after their discharge, decided to stay and continue their musical mission. Meeting up with a team of local managers, they transformed themselves and their sound into a holy racket like the world had never known. This five-person order literally birthed the above genres through a fuzz-drenched evolution of sound, bursting with social commentary and future primitive rhythms. Krautrock? It started here. Do we hear non-believers? We are not making this up. If you aren't already converted, it won't take long. Light In The Attic is ecstatic to present the Monks recorded legacy in the lavish and lovingly researched: The Early Years 1964-1965.

*shop favorite repressed… nice looking and sounding domestic reissue/pressing (the cover design used is that of the ua/Italian pressing, not the billingsgate issue circa 1973, fwiw). Klaus Dinger played drums on the first Kraftwerk LP in 1971. The following year he joined forces with Michael Rother and they formed Neu!, releasing their self-titled debut LP on German label Brain. Their music was heavily innovative and influential, melting distorted guitars with metronomic drumming, noise effects and tapes. The second LP, "Neu! 2", was released in 1973 and featured the first remix experiments, with tracks recorded at 16 and 78 rpm. The band splitted in 1975 after releasing the final "Neu! 75". They eventually recorded more material in the 1980s'. Michael Rother pursued a solo career, while Klaus Dinger went on forming La Düsseldorf.

KAREN DALTON- IT'S SO HARD TO TELL WHO'S GOING TO LOVE YOU THE BEST LP (light in the attic, usa)
22.98usd/14.18gbp/16.24eur/2213jpy (approx)
*After re-releasing vaunted folk-singer Karen Dalton's sophomore LP In My Own Time in 2006, Light In The Attic Records are proud to announce a much needed official vinyl reissue of her 1969 Capitol debut. It's So Hard To Tell Who's Going To Love You The Best is a heart wrenching and bluesy introduction to the intoxicating world of Dalton and her deep well of musical secrets. Take a load off and pull up a chair. It's So Hard To Tell spans generations of classic American songwriting (Led Belly, Jelly Roll Morton, and Tim Hardin) and with Dalton's unsurpassed interpretive depth and emotional range, it's no surprise that artists from Fred Neil to Nick Cave have sung Dalton's praises over the years. Even the likes of Bob Dylan have fallen under her spell, recalling the singer's illuminating presence on the New York music scene during the pair's formative Greenwich Village days: "My favorite singer in the place was Karen Dalton. She had a voice like Billie Holiday's and played the guitar like Jimmy Reed." But championing endorsements aside, all you have to do is drop the needle on the grooves to understand. World weary and filled with the blues, Dalton's tragic life story was a rocky road. While no longer with us in the physical, her growing musical presence is stronger than ever and worthy of re-examination by the converted and uninitiated alike. Selling poorly at the time of release, original vinyl copies of It's So Hard To Tell Who's Going To Love You The Best have all but vanished while bootleg internet rips take away all the soul. With period artwork, tip-on jacket, extensive liner notes, photos, and clear audio re-mastered from the original Capitol masters, this Light In The Attic reissue is set to become the definitive analogue version of Dalton's stunning debut. Dim the lights and turn that stereo up, Karen Dalton will turn your living room into private concert, an intimate performance you will never forget.

Recorded between1995 & 2006 in Bamako, Mali. "In the recordings, three masters of traditional jenbe dance drumming present the clear beauty and explosive power of their music. Of course the music of a jenbe dance celebration cannot be adequately documented because it represents part of a dynamic event, which can only be fully grasped by witnessing all its interlocking elements. The sound recording of a celebration would lack the movement of the dancers and the whole atmosphere of colors, smells, and enthusiasm. The recordings presented in this CD, moreover, were made not in the context of a celebration at all, but in a schoolyard in the Badialan quarter of Bamako. The drummers performed for the microphone, without rehearsals, without arrangements, and without an underlying notion on how to convey celebration music without a celebration. It was the first time to do a studio recording for all of them. They spontaneously created a kind of art music in a space without references, an abstract translation of music traditionally played for celebrations. The original live tracks were neither cut nor overdubbed.

DELE SOSIMI- TURBULENT TIMES CD (ekostar, uk)

*shop favorite restocked… originally released in 2002. Dele Sosimi's credentials as a master of Afrobeat are beyond question, having been (one of) the very first keyboard players to work in Fela Anikulapo's Egypt '80. Prior to this, Fela himself was the only keyboard player in his band or in Afrobeat as a whole. Sosimi then worked with a host of other musicians, including his pivotal role in Femi Kuti's Positive Force in its early years. Then there is the man's innate abilities as a bandleader in his own right -- ask anyone fortunate enough to have experienced Dele's live performances all over Europe, from the South Bank in London to the Monteux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. So here is the man who took over the mantle of Abami Eda as the face of Afrobeat. What you get is a rare insight into the infinite possibilities of what we know -- or more precisely, what we thought we knew -- as Afrobeat. On this album, Afrobeat is subjected to a contemporary re-working. The roots of the music are apparent, and the down-to-earth basis of the music is obvious. But Sosimi's contribution lies in what he has done with those roots. Every single aspect of the music is different from what has gone before. The true test of a work of art is the ability to take the best of a body of learning and presenting it in a different light, re-defining and extending boundaries, opening up infinite possibilities. With this, his first solo album, Sosimi has rendered a huge service to Afrobeat. Listen and be blown away. This is the future of Afrobeat.

*shop favorite restocked… originally released in 2002. In the strict sense, Afrobeat, which means African beat, refers to all African-oriented musical forms. These idioms have been there for centuries. Even Fela Anikulapo Kuti, the highly celebrated Afrobeat icon who took his inspiration from this vast resource later realized the non-specificity but all-embracing nature of Afrobeat as a nomenclature. He renamed it classical African music upon his release of Beast Of No Nation in 1984. This CD is therefore unique in that aside from helping to vividly explain this intriguing point, it has also explored the depths, dimensions and possibilities of African music. As a showcase for various artists with different materials, performances are naturally varied. But the interesting thing about this variety is that within the ambit of African beat, various dimensions with different approaches have emerged. Some of them predate Fela's emergence while others parade fresh and invigorating styles that have opened up new fields for musicians to explore. Featuring artists Awa-KLaSH, Dele Sosimi, Seyi Sholagbagde, Jagunlabi, Duro Ikujenyo, Fatai Rolling Dollars, Ayetoro, Tamedun, Olufumi, Imo, Duro Ikujenyo and Kayode Olajide.

*shop favorite restocked on compact disc, the vinyl’s out of print… Guitar-Boy Superstar is the first survey of the long career of the legendary Nigerian musician, artist and poet Victor Uwaifo, one of Nigeria's greatest stars -- a long-overdue release that puts Victor Uwaifo next to other Nigerian greats better known in the West. Victor Uwaifo's mission to spread and preserve the cultural heritage of ancient Benin (Modern day Edo State, Nigeria) has seen him work as a commissioner for cultural affairs in his native Edo State, a University lecturer, acclaimed bronze sculptor and poet as well as a highly successful musician. He has been awarded Nigeria's highest cultural tribute -- the order of the Niger, and continues to teach and work today with an energy that has not abated for nearly fifty years. Cutting his musical teeth with Victor Olaiya ("the evil genius of highlife") in the early '60s, he went on to form his own band The Melody Maestros, producing Nigeria's biggest-ever selling record with Joromi in 1965, for which he was awarded Africa's first gold disc. He has continued to produce some of the most popular and engaging music in Nigeria ever since. This album focuses on his early 1970s musical output. Uwaifo invented a unique style of highlife music that he called ekassa -- based on ancient rhythms and fused with modern highlife instrumentation and just a dash of rock and soul.

*shop favorite repressed/restocked on compact disc and vinyl... Since 2002, Soundway Records has been synonymous with high-quality and groundbreaking compilations of music from Africa, the Caribbean and South America. Nigeria Special is the most ambitious project yet for the label -- a truly in-depth, double album look at Nigerian music in the early to mid-'70s, encompassing a broad range of styles. Compiler and DJ Miles Cleret has spent five years working on this album -- involving trips to Lagos and around Nigeria interviewing musicians and researching recordings, as well as a suitable amount of time scouring dusty record stores and warehouses for elusive sounds. This compilation presents some of the best un-reissued and forgotten sounds from Nigeria, covering the amazingly vibrant and diverse styles that emerged and flourished at the time. Everything from highlife, jazz, Afro-beat and blues to more traditional styles are represented to give as comprehensive a survey of the scene as possible. The 32-page booklet covers a history of the time plus in-depth information on the artists and musicians, as well as a look at the amazing pop-art cover designs of Nigerian records.
V/A- NIGERIA DISCO FUNK SPECIAL: THE SOUND OF THE UNDERGROUND LAGOS DANCEFLOOR 1974-79 CD (soundway, uk)
18.98usd/11.71gbp/13.41eur/1828jpy (approx)
*shop favorite repressed/restocked on compact disc, the vinyl’s out of print… Lagos, Nigeria, 1974-1979: the funk & disco capital of West Africa. More nightclubs, bars, spots and dancefloors than any place along the coast from Dakar all the way to Kinshasa. Nigeria Disco Funk Special is an amazing collection of heavy dancefloor grooves from urban Lagos in the '70s -- hot and driving slices of funk, disco and boogie that show just how vibrant the music scene was in one of West Africa's most populous and culturally diverse cities. In the '70s, it wasn't just James Brown who influenced the musicians playing in the nightspots of Lagos -- the loose-structured and elongated jams that he was pioneering in America had been a part of Nigerian music much longer than that. This album is the sound of Cuban-heeled and micro-minied Lagos youth soaking up the sound of the American discotheque and putting their own inimitable twist on the proceedings. The CD and double gatefold vinyl include rare tracks from famous musicians like Bongos Ikwue & The Groovies and Mono Mono's Joni Haastrup, as well as selections from cult bands like Asiko Rock Group, SJOB Movement and Jay-U Experience. Other artists include: The Sahara All Stars, T-Fire, Voices Of Darkness and Dr. Adolf Aonotu.

V/A- SCHOOL ME! VOLUME ONE 1968-1975: HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGIATE JAZZ, FUNK, SOUL AND PSYCHEDELIA 2LP (stage band research, usa)
19.98usd/12.33gbp/14.12eur/1924jpy (approx)
*School Me! – the first release on the newly formed Stage Band Research label – compiles the best funk, jazz, pyschedelia (and a healthy combination of the three!) that America’s high school stage band and university lab bands and jazz ensembles have to offer. Following in the footsteps of Cali-Tex’s School House Funk volumes and Now-Again Records proper exhumation of the legendary Houston, Texas-based Kashmere Stage Band’s nigh-perfect repertoire, here’s a compilation that gives a great cross section of the stage band and jazz ensemble movement in America. A movement meant to educate children and hone their musical talents. A movement that, sadly, has all but disappeared. Here, there’s white bands, black bands, mixed bands... bands from well endowed universities and those from impoverished, overlooked high schools... bands from the sticks and those from the bricks... Bands who obviously worshipped James Brown and those who were inspired by Cream. The label’s focussed on the era between 1968 and 1975 for this compilation. But this is only the beginning. Let’s hope it doesn’t take them a decade to find enough to make it to volume two!
THE MEMPHIS SOUNDS- IKE'S MOODS LP (traffic entertainment group, usa)
17.98usd/11.10gbp/12.70eur/1732jpy (approx)
*Traffic Entertainment presents The Memphis Sounds Ike's Moods, an all-instrumental collection of Isaac Hayes' most well-known songs. In a similar vein as the Ultimate Breaks & Beats Instrumentals album, Ike's Moods takes the best from Isaac Hayes' catalog and transforms them into instrumental gems. Just as Hayes defined funk and soul in the 60s and 70s, the members of The Memphis Sound have carved out their own unique contemporary sound that not only attracts a younger generation to the genres, but also pleases fans of the sounds since their inception. Consisting of members from El Michels Affair, the Dap Kings, and Anti Balas, these instrumentalists have been a part of a movement of neo-wave funk and soul musicians, dedefining the sound through projects with Mark Ronson (his most recent album Version) and Amy Winehouse (Back to Black, as well as touring with the singer); reworking classic instrumentals for the Wu-Tang Clan on a series of 7" records and performing live alongside the clansmen; and other various live and studio recorded projects. Ike's Moods contains such classics as "Shaft," "Walk On By," and "Look Of Love," and aptly pays homage to the many moods and musical stylings of Hayes. An innovator of his time, Isaac Hayes is most known for his work on the music for Shaft whose theme song was made famous by its wah-wah guitar and multi-layered symphonic arrangement. Passing away in August 2008, Hayes left behind a career that spanned an extensive discography, filmography, and a handful of awards including three Grammy's, an NAACP Image Award, and an Academy Award. Celebrate the career of this American music icon who defined the funk and soul genres with Ike's Moods.
LEE FIELDS & THE EXPLORERS- MY WORLD LP (truth and soul, usa)
18.98usd/11.71gbp/13.41eur/1828jpy (approx)
*Lee Fields is a bona-fide, 100%, unadulterated, pure, gut-bucket soul singer. While the crate-digging funk and soul community bestowed "legendary" status upon him due to his undeniably solid series of rare 7" singles (and one LP) recorded and released on his own independent labels in the 70s, he's never been one to sit in a dusty corner. New York label/production team Truth & Soul, are ready to bring him to light with a brand new album of beat-heavy, deep soul ballads that will show soul-revivalists the world over what real soul is. After his rediscovery in the mid 90s, his faithful have featured him on a slew on singles, a full-length on Desco Records entitled "Let's Get It On', a full-length on Soul Fire entitled "Problems", and on Sharon Jones's critically acclaimed album, "Naturally". Most recently, he has featured on a number of tracks by French house producer, Martin Solveig. Suprisingly, many of of those songs have become top ten hits for Solveig and have turned Lee Fields into a bonafide celebrity in France and other parts of Europe. Yet, outside of a rabid cult following, his story remained untold in America. When Truth & Soul rose from Soul Fire's ashes in 2004, the first mission of label owners/producers Jeff Silverman and Leon Michels, was to record a sweet soul record that would be modeled after the near perfect formula that bands like The Moments, The Delfonics, and The Stylistics had created. In a nutshell - the duo wanted an album full of music that was both tough as nails and sweet as honey. They wanted ballads laced with lush strings and smooth vocal harmonies layered over a hard-hitting rhythm section. Michels and Silverman enlisted the service of a the group of New York studio musicians that have provided the back drop for records by The Dap Kings, Amy Winehouse, Bronx River Parkway, El Michels Affair and TV on The Radio. Those musicians include Leon Michels, Homer Steinweiss, Quincy Bright, Nick Movshon, Thomas Brenneck, Toby Pazner, Aaron Johnson, Dave Guy, Michael Leonhart, and members of legendary doo-wop group, The Del-Larks. Four years later and Lee Fields & The Expressions have successfully created a unique and personal sound that can hold court with the bands they set out to emulate. However, what they've created in the process goes beyond just a carbon copy of a sweet soul music from the 60's and early 70's. The formula has remained the same but the style has been adapted for the ears of youngsters whose experiences with soul began with Amy, not Al, Otis and Marvin. Thirty years of retrospection has colored this cross-generational melding of the minds. It sounds odd on paper, but the results are classic: hip hop-reared record collectors come full circle to produce an album of beautiful soul music with one of the progenitors who made it all possible…

V/A- RANDOM RAP: 1987-1988 RARE HIP HOP 12" SINGLES LP (m.s.g., uk)
17.98usd/11.10gbp/12.70eur/1732jpy (approx)
*The golden age of hip hop centres on1987 and 1988, a time when groundbreaking artists like Boogie Down Productions and Eric B. & Rakim burst onto the scene with original and fresh new sounds. During such an incredible period for the music, it was impossible to track down every single release pressed on 12” vinyl. While many releases by unknown groups surely deserved to be ignored, there are always exceptions, and today those lucky enough to get their hands on certain lesser-known records can be ecstatic to find such unbelievable slices of hip hop rarity.
Random Rap describes this niche genre of ultra-rare old school, and this compilation, offers some of its finest and simultaneously rarest vinyl selections. Almost all have a common thread; the involvement of the legendary late producer, Paul C., who, prior to his murder in 1989 aged 24, worked with greats like Ultramagnetic MCs, Super Lover Cee and Casanova Rud, Mikey Dee, and Eric B. and Rakim. However, he had his hands on the faders for many other releases, the best of which appear here. From Phase And Rhythms’ ‘Hyperactive’ to Sport G and Mastermind’s ‘Live’, fans of the golden age sound will have trouble ignoring these recently unearthed gems.

TACTIC- TACTIC 12” (dress 2 sweat, uk)
13.98usd/8.63gbp/9.88eur/1346jpy (approx)
*Dress 2 Sweat is bringing the hot rocks again with this limited edition white label from our Midwest brothers Tactic, in anticipation of their full length EP of original material on the label later this year. his record is a perfect example of the Tactic sound - a musical crossroads of the most important movements of our time; Hip Hop and Dance music. The lead out track is a remix of MIA's 'Boyz' bringing together dubstep dutty bass with squelching synths and halftime drops. Originally released by Starkey as part of his 'Street Bass Anthems' compilation, it’s now finally availavle on vinyl. "Can't Juke Without Me" is next - A remix of an obscure Miami Bass track, it’s one of the most famous Tactic remixes. "Badmans' Roor" rounds the EP off - A mutant banger of a track that is a collision between Dancehall, Baltimore Club and Techno. This blink and you'll miss it 12" is a hand stamped white label with the Tactic logo, limited to just 500 copies.
PIDDY P- GIGGLE RIDDIM 12” (dress 2 sweat, uk)
13.98usd/8.63gbp/9.88eur/1346jpy (approx)
*Finally the much hyped Giggle Riddim gets its full release. Already featured in Sinden’s Fabric mix and Herve’s forthcoming 'Ghetto Bass' compilation, 'Giggle Riddim' stands out in the bassline scene as one of the biggest tunes of the past year. Piddy Py is a master of the signature Northern style with his ghoulish bell-tower leads and extra-terrestrial bass. Combined with Giggle's wind-up kicks that bully dancefloors into submission and the terrifying baby cackles that give the riddim it's name, Piddy's arsenal is unstoppable. Utter havoc ensues with every drop. The title tyrack has already played by the likes of Toddla T, Sinden, Herve, Hudson Mohawke, Rustie, Drop The Lime, plus bassline heavyweights DJ Q, Rossi B & Luca and too many more to mention.
ROD LEE- LET ME SEE WHAT U WORKIN WITH 12” (dress 2 sweat, uk)
13.98usd/8.63gbp/9.88eur/1346jpy (approx)
*shop favorite restocked… Rod Lee is back on Dress 2 Sweat, and this time we're bringing the old with the new (and exclusive) plus a devastating remix from man of the minute Rustie. The title track is a never before released piece of original club music from the Club King. None of the generic Bmore breaks or samples, this is essentially just an upbeat hip hop track with Rod Lee rapping over the top. There's an accapella included for the remixers and adventurous DJs, and the air horn classic "Oh Yeah" - probably one of the finest hype tracks to come out of Maryland. But the pick of this whole EP is probably Rustie's remix. A low-slung, sleazy beast that has everyone going nuts right now. This is a limited edition of 500 copies for the world.
ROD LEE- LET THE HORNS GO 12” (dress 2 sweat, uk)
13.98usd/8.63gbp/9.88eur/1346jpy (approx)
*shop favorite restocked… Rod Lee is back with his third Dress 2 Sweat instalment. Two more super-hype tracks cut super loud for super DJs only. This is a limited edition of 500 copies.
DRE SKULL FEAT. SIZZLA- GONE TOO FAR 12” (mixpak, usa)
14.98usd/9.24gbp/10.59eur/1443jpy (approx)
*Dre Skull teams up with Jamaican dancehall legend Sizzla on some classic 120bpm dancehall.
Dre Skull's timpani and strings-driven "Skull Riddim" anchors Sizzla's dynamic call to stop the violence and the result is an instant anthem in the long tradition of positive, anti-violence dancehall tracks. The vinyl features some massive, bassbin rumbling remixes by Buraka Som Sistema, Lee Mortimer & Dre Skull that are not to be missed. The digital release has additional remixes by Rico Tubbs and Goon making sure every base (bass?) is covered. "Gone Too Far" has garnered early support from Annie Mac and Sinden and the underlying "Skull Riddim" is getting some alternate voicings, so be on the look out for some exclusive dubplates popping up.

12.98usd/8.01gbp/9.17eur/1250jpy (approx)
*B-More styled edits of madonnas's "into the groove" & "like a prayer" on the A-side, while dj eli delivers a slightly funkified remix of "stand back" by stevie nicks (plus a bonus "beat-a-pella" for turntablist hijinks) on the flip.
DJ ROCTAKON- MONEY LOTION 1 12” (money studies, usa)
11.98usd/7.39gbp/8.47eur/1154jpy (approx)
*shop favorite restocked… The first of what is mooted to be a new Money Studies series, Money Lotion Volume 1 is proper Hollertronix styles - with five tracks of mutated pop, all fed through the Baltimore blender and served up in shocking pink garb. A favourite of The Rub DJs and Spank Rock, DJ Roctakon knows just how much familiar stuff to mix in with the bass-licked bottom end - as the likes of 'Sunglasses At Night' find themselves at the wrong end of some B-More attitude. Pumped full of pop gems, this is the kind of thing that gives bootlegs a good name - with Roctakon forging a fantastic opening salve for what will likely become a DJ must have series. Holler! -boomkat
SCOTTIE B- MONEY LOTION 5 12” (money studies, usa)
11.98usd/7.39gbp/8.47eur/1154jpy (approx)
*shop favorite restocked… Scottie B returns to the Money Lotion series, and this time he brought friends. Chavy Boys Of London are the new B-more supergroup, featuring Scottie and Shawn Caesar (co-founders of the legendary Unruly Records) and longtime collaborator, King Tutt. The Boys run wild on this one, mixing 80s party rap classics, bhangra beats, a well-known dubstep track, an even better-known pop idol, and that shouty guy from Atlanta who seems to end up on a lot of B-more tracks. Forget all the fakers and half-steppers, this is true Baltimore club music done right, and it doesn't get more hype than that! Made with the working DJ in mind, all tracks segue in even tempo, allowing the whole side to run continuously in the club... not mixed, but with a clear beat-matched transition. Limited pressing, and all previous Money Lotion EPs have sold out in a hot minute. Features 'Push It' (Salt N Pepa re-fix), 'Ofra Bhangra', 'Rockin' Music' (based on 'Planet Rock'), 'Request Line' (from Skream's 'Midnight Request Line'), 'Zoe Jawn' (Gorilla Zoe's 'Hood Nigga' re-rubbed), and 'London Wild' (Madonna vs. Lil Jon blend). -boomkat

CHICAGO SKYWAY- BELLS 12” (eargasmic, usa)
9.98usd/6.16gbp/7.05eur/961jpy (approx)
*shop favorite restocked… Chicago skyway first debuted on eargasmic with the digital release of “heavens and angels/purgatory.” here he’s officially blessed into the eargasmic family with “bells” - an amazing composition of roland drum machines and vintage synths. reminiscent of the early house sound, he proves that this once deemed futuristic style still holds the test of time. on the flipside, “random thoughts” takes things back to the dirty sweat box basements. dcee (daryl cura) also contributes an edit to “bells” as well as his slow bangin “fourtone” as an added bonus.
V/A- THOUGHTS FROM CHICAGO VOL. 2 12” (eargasmic, usa)
9.98usd/6.16gbp/7.05eur/961jpy (approx)
*shop favorite restocked… Eargasmic's 10th release showcases 3 different perspectives of the house sound from 3 different Chicago producers. 'All Night Dance' - the debut from Bjak and the unofficial Eargasmic theme song - is an ultra-smooth stomper that's reminiscent of the mid-90s loft party scene, a definite pick for all the deep heads. Tetrode Music's (and long time Eargasmic member) Specter adds his signature 5am beatdown-sound style to this 12" with 'I Don't Need'. On the flip, The Sun God makes a valiant return to EGC with an 11 minute beat track pulled out of his archives that's, as you've guessed, complete mayhem. These are their 'Thoughts From Chicago'.

"Show Up & Be Counted" revamps the classic "Goin’ To The Showdown" proving that Twitch is even more of a don than Don himself. Johnny Wakelin is airlifted out of Zaire for "Fumble In The Bungle" and dumped straight into the middle of a sweaty dance floor via this perfect cut and splice edit and last but not least the tripped out "Robbing Gristle" hammers out a relentless take on TG's 'Throb' rounding off a killer debut for Flashback. Excellent artwork courtesy of graffiti artist Inkie...

*shop favorite restocked… Wild Geese - the secretive London based DJ collective - deliver Flashback's sophomore release - a double A sided treat that significantly raises the bar in world of 12" edits. "Macho Disco" is a high octane disco track featuring a fully operatic breakdown which was the highlight of the Wild Geese DJ set at this years Glastonbury Festival. A fully charged disco bomb straight out of the Ron Hardy school of unearthed gems. "Who Cares Wins" is the Wild Geese call to arms that builds from a low slung bass groove into an unforgettable piano led cosmic disco excursion.
BUARI- DISCO SOCCER LP (makossa international, usa)
16.98usd/10.48gbp/12.00eur/1635jpy (approx)
*shop favorite restocked… This is some crazy Afro-disco business from 1977 by a Ghanian drummer / singer / dancer. His records are well sought-after. On the sleeve notes he writes “I feel through my music - as waxed in this collection is a development which comes from the ingredients of the traditional music and culture of Ghana. There is a strong American disco beat to these heavy African rhythms. For it is my intention that my music gives pleasure to dancers as well as educate...'' killer!

*shop favorite restocked… Extremely rare French disco LP from Daniel Vangarde, the father of Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter!!! Most famous at the time for producing the Gibson Brothers this album was a much more underground affair, a sleazy electronic take on disco music with killer tracks including “Palace Palace," “Dancin' Machine” and the stunning mid-tempo middle eastern influenced cut "Hypnodance."

14.98usd/9.24gbp/10.59eur/1443jpy (approx)
*tight edit brought to us by the Peoples Potential Unlimited label. This 12" contains two great edits by Tom Noble of Lotusland Records fame, the main attraction being the edit of Africa Bump, an unreleased record by Grupo Santa Cecilia.
ACTRESS- GHOSTS HAVE A HEAVEN 12” (prime numbers, uk)
13.98usd/8.63gbp/9.88eur/1346jpy (approx)
*Ghosts Have A Heaven is a heavily stripped down, minimally constructed piece built on a heavyweight kick drum whilst given movement and accentuated by filtered synth washes and sub-bass which change subtly throughout the track. Side 2 is taken by two tracks from the Actress debut full length release on his own Werk Discs. Hazyville is a twisted piece of electro funk expertly compressed and crackling with static energy. Superb locking & popping lace the track sounding something like the avant gardism of Subway Theme from the Wild Style O.S.T pushed confidently into 2009. Next up Redit 124 provides a deep clipped jackin’ groove with a glitchy feel.
WIREMAN- ARMOUR 12” (prime numbers, uk)
13.98usd/8.63gbp/9.88eur/1346jpy (approx)
*shop favorite restocked… The Armour ep is the first release from Glasgow based Wireman, a new signing to the Prime Numbers artist roster. Taking all the best elements from dubstep, techno and ambient electronica and creating an original sound that is all his own. Taking influence from producers such as T++, Basic Channel, Autechre, 2562 and Kode9, Wireman has created some forward thinking (dubbed) techno & electronics. The Armour EP has already been generating huge hype with dj support coming from Martyn, Move D, Surgeon and plenty more.
V/A- R 03 12” (prime numbers, uk)
14.98usd/9.24gbp/10.59eur/1443jpy (approx)
*shop favorite restocked… Linkwood provide a deep & subtle production in the vein of Basic Channel and Deep Space. Drums and keys crack and fizzle above layers of submerged bass augmented by haunting effects and vocal samples. Linkwood collaborator and member of Found from the mighty Fence Records weighs in with a soulful electro funk production utilising clipped drums and an extra wide bassline. Fudge Fingas’ vocals provide an addictive harmony before eulogising on the idea of going to eat some tea! A loose and raw Detroit beatdown style track with hefty stabs, 909 drums and large amounts reverb and echo throughout. The tracks classic sound is reinforced with the use of rousing Martin Luther King vocal samples which give the track its title.
V/A- M 07 12” (prime numbers, uk)
14.98usd/9.24gbp/10.59eur/1443jpy (approx)
*shop favorite restocked… The first side is taken by a remix of Wireman’s “Armour”, the original of which was included on PN04 released at the end of 2008. The remix is from Move D ( Deep Space Network, Source Records ), he ups the tempo and in trademark fashion softens the surfaces of the original, warming the core of the track while creating a bass heavy groove with twisting beats, synths and a hypnotic vocal sample. The flip includes two tracks. To start we have “Crushed” by Actress. Darren J. Cunningham aka Actress runs the much lauded Werk Records and this track is taken from his limited CD only album “Hazyville” ( released on Werk in late 2008). “Crushed” is slo-mo, extra bass heavy, low slung house with an addictive lofi synth riff and submerged strings. To round things off Be, the up & coming Manchester based producer provides “When You Left”. Be cut his teeth with the Chicago based Still music and a great Al Hudson reedit which found extensive dj support on its release. “When You Left” is a shuffling downbeat house groove with a jazz sentiment featuring deep rhodes keys and clipped drums, the track breaks up into a bluesy accapella section then builds up to a more direct 4/4 groove to the end.
TRUS'ME- $TILNOCHECK? 12” (prime numbers, uk)

*shop favorite restocked… This ep has a canny knack of connecting with the deep side of things in a party style which is all about the musicality not the dancefloor, but the dancefloor won’t complain either. killer!
TRUS'ME- WORKING NIGHTS 2LP (prime numbers, uk)
25.98usd/16.03gbp/18.36eur/2502jpy (approx)
*shop favorite restocked… Debut album from Manchester's Trus’me. Five new tracks cover many styles from soulful house, disco to afro beat and twisted funk.
V/A- UNDERDOG EDITS 14 12” (underdog, usa)
9.98usd/6.16gbp/7.05eur/961jpy (approx)
*You Can't Win is an edit from The Wiz soundtrack, produced by Quincy Jones. Combines original album mix with rare 12" version. On the flip is a rare cut produced by legendary New Orleans funk producer Allen Toussaint.
V/A- UNDERDOG EDITS 13 12” (underdog, usa)
9.98usd/6.16gbp/7.05eur/961jpy (approx)
*shop favorite restocked… Rinder & Lewis: Anger - Considered one of the most abstract production teams of the Disco era, this cut was taken from their "Seven Deadly Sins" album (very rare!). Never released on 12" inch, this cut was a Music Box fave! Not much to edit, just give it a DJ friendlier drum intro. A great cut for a disco or a deep house set! Mighty Clouds of Joy: Time - One of my favorite edits! Taken from their "It's Time" album. Even thought this song was produced by Dave Crawford, the Philly sound played a big part in it (thanks to Norman Harris on guitar & Earl Young on drums). The song was originally recorded in 2 parts, so I combined them with a little bit of dub. Yes, you can give praise and boogie at the same time!
V/A- UNDERDOG EDITS 12 12” (underdog, usa)
9.98usd/6.16gbp/7.05eur/961jpy (approx)
*shop favorite restocked… Two very rare tracks that were never released on 12''. Love Committee's ''Pass The Buck'' is another Norman Harris production that was a huge Music Box record. They were part of the Philly clique that got passed over by Gamble & Huff and eventually got their due on Salsoul. Black Ivory's ''Longer Ride'' is an early Leroy Burgess track. This is a classic example of the deep deep, disco soul sound. Both tracks only have slight extensions to aid the contemporary DJ.
V/A- UNDERDOG EDITS 11 12” (underdog, usa)
9.98usd/6.16gbp/7.05eur/961jpy (approx)
*shop favorite restocked… The Underdog bites back w/2 Norman Harris produced warehouse classics: Are You Ready For This? & Get On Down. Neither of these classic cuts ever were released on 12''.
V/A- UNDERDOG EDITS 10 12” (underdog, usa)
9.98usd/6.16gbp/7.05eur/961jpy (approx)
*shop favorite restocked… Stand Up is their HTF 2nd single which wasn't big, 'cause it was too short. That's no longer a problem. ''Cantina Bar Theme'' from Star Wars was a HUGE Music Box fave so here the Udog has friendlied it up w/extended breaks & all what you need.
V/A- UNDERDOG EDITS 9 12” (underdog, usa)
9.98usd/6.16gbp/7.05eur/961jpy (approx)
*shop favorite restocked… The Richie Family was one of disco's supergroups. Philadelphia-esque sound, from the drums and strings. Originally part of a medley, extended drums and added dub-like effects to give it more drive. We are sure Larry Levan and Walter Gibbons are smiling down on this one! ''Smoke'' is from the Chocolate City record label. Super obscure disco!
CHIP E.- TIME TO JACK 12” (underground, usa)
9.98usd/6.16gbp/7.05eur/961jpy (approx)
*shop favorite restocked… The original house sound that put Chicago on the map as the house music capital, "Time To Jack" is one of those first few seminial tracks that helped shape the development of Chicago house. Dark, deep bassline, haunting string stab, and MPC sampled vocal chanting over TR-808 drum pattern beats. Featuring Chicago house vocalist K. Joy. Chip E. started spinning records in 1982, by 1984 he was producing records. In 1985 Street Mix magazine declared Chip E. as the "Godfather of House Music". In 1987 he became the first (and still the only) Chicago artist to be in regular rotation on all 3 major Chicago radio stations (WBMX, WGCI, B96). Former B96 programming manager Joe Bohannon (Joe Bo) made the decision to add "If You Only Knew" to regular rotation and with that began the transition of the station from CHR (contemporary hit radio) to a Dance Music station. Chip E. took DJ/Remixer Frankie Knuckles under his wing when he co-produced Frankie’s first record "You Can’t Hide." Other artists Chip E. jump started into the music world were Liddell Townsel, Kevin Irving, and Harri Dennis of "The It". By the age of 21 Chip E. was a world wide name. This is the first authorized reissue of this classic 1986 release that helped shape the sound of Chicago house, and dance music around the globe.
