ROCK, POP AND PSYCHEDELIC

COLOURED BALLS- BALL POWER CD (aztec music, australia)
24.98usd/12.57gbp/15.88eur/2684jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… When we started the Aztec Music label, we made a list of the albums that we hoped to reissue and this absolute classic was certainly one our top choices! Ball Power was a defining moment in the history of Aussie music and one of the greatest guitar-driven hard rock albums of the 1970s. By the time Lobby Loyde formed the Coloured Balls in March 1972, he was already a 12-year veteran of the local music scene. Working his way through R&B legends The Purple Hearts, psychedelic heroes The Wild Cherries and onto the bluesy Aztecs, Loyde had well and truly established his reputation as Australia 's pre-eminent guitar master. By the beginning of 1973, the band's standing was such that they put in an astonishing performance at the second annual Sunbury Festival. Loyde's legendary 16-minute, freeform showpiece 'G.O.D.', a searing cosmic heavy metal epic that surely stands as one of the greatest performances ever recorded by an Australian band of the era is included here as one of the 7 bonus tracks. After releasing 2 singles on the Havoc label, the Coloured Balls Signed to EMI. With help from producer Ian D. Miller and highly experienced engineer John Sayers the band knocked out Ball Power in a couple of weeks. One of the great progressive hard rock LPs of the era, Ball Power really had a lot going for it: great songs, inspirational playing, attitude to burn and an experimental edge that would have frightened the hell out of any lesser band.

COLOURED BALLS- HEAVY METAL KID CD (aztec music, australia)
24.98usd/12.57gbp/15.88eur/2684jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… With the dawning of 1974, the future looked bright for the Coloured Balls. Their album Ball Power sat in the Melbourne Top 10 (national #13) and their performance at Sunbury 1974 over the Australia Day weekend had been a triumph. They were at the peak of their powers, one of the country's top live draws Yet, by the end of the year, fate had intervened and the band was simply crumbling under the weight of outside pressures: EMI calling for hit singles; the national media branding them as anti-social misfits; a wave of violence unfolding at their gigs around the country. The image, perpetrated by the media, sat uneasily with the members of the Coloured Balls -- one of the most misunderstood bands of the early 1970s. Fortunately, they left behind another great album in Heavy Metal Kid. Like Ball Power, this album retains a power and strength of purpose to this day, displaying an adventurous spirit and further reaffirmation of the band's status as a pioneering progressive / hard rock outfit. Heavy Metal Kid is presented in a 6 panel digi-pak with a 24 page booklet filled with rare photos & liner notes by Ian McFarlane. It has been digitally remastered with 7 bonus tracks.

V/A- THE COMPLETE HAVOC SINGLES 1971-1973 2CD (aztec music, australia)
27.98usd/14.08gbp/17.79eur/3006jpy (approx)

*Melbourne's short-lived Havoc Records label ran from 1971 to 1973 and released landmark releases from some of Australia's greatest ever bands. The monster-selling Aztecs Live! At Sunbury, and the all-time Aztecs' classic Most People I Know Think That I'm Crazy were the biggest sellers, but the label also released notable platters from Lobby Loyde (with the Coloured Balls and The Wild Cherries), Carson, Thump'n Pig & Puff'n Billy, Michael Turner In Session, Ash, Chook (best Aussie band name ever?) and Star Spangled Banger. Aztecs' drummer Gil Matthews was the house engineer/producer for Havoc and produced all nineteen singles and five albums (including his own release 'Little Dove'/'Gil's Thing'). The label was a testament to Havoc boss Frank Smith's eclectic taste -- apart from the 'Oz Rock' stable listed above, there were Jasmine's Dory Previn covers, Robbie Snowden's ridiculous 'Hot Pants Sue' and the ultra-rare soundtrack A City's Child. The entire 1971-1973 singles are collected in this 2CD deluxe package with 2 bonus tracks from Carson and David Pickard. 8-panel digipak with a 24 page booklet with rare photos and liner notes by Ian McFarlane.

THE PEACE- BLACK POWER LP (groovie, spain)
29.98usd/15.09gbp/19.06eur/3221jpy (approx)

*The Peace were an obscure band from Copperbelt, Zambia. According to some rumours, they were in fact a band from the Zambian Air Force... Before they became The Peace the band was called The Boyfriends, a popular local band featuring Ted Makombe and Emmanuel Chanda from another legendary band from Zambia, The Witch. Recorded at Malachite Studios, Chingola, in the mid '70s, Black Power is one of the rarest psych-rock records ever released in Africa. Killer Afro-psychedelic rock sound, the missing piece from the weird and amazing African Afro-rock '70s puzzle along with other rare as hell records like The Witch, Amanaz and Question Mark." We've been warned that the sound of this reissue is problematic, so please bear in mind when ordering: "The sound for this album is not perfect at all. It's understandable that it's probably impossible to get a good condition copy of the original vinyl to remaster, as this is so so rare even to find in trashed condition. So it has remastered with a decent result in the most part of the album... but there are two songs that have some prominent noise.

AVANT GARDE AND NOISE

MOONDOG- THE VIKING OF SIXTH AVENUE CD (honest jon’s, uk)
18.98usd/9.55gbp/12.07eur/2039jpy (approx)

*shop favorite stocked for the first time on cd… Previously licensed to Astralwerks in the U.S., now re-released on its original label, Honest Jon's, with new and improved gatefold card wallet sleeve packaging. Poet, composer, street musician and cosmologist Moondog (Louis Thomas Hardin, 1916-1999) learned rhythm from American Indians and counterpoint from J.S. Bach. Many of his recordings feature instruments he built himself: trimba, yukh, tuji, oo. Sometimes you can hear in the background the streets of New York, where Moondog often slept. In addition, he was blind, due to an accident when he was 15. Sometime in the 1950s, fed up with being mistaken on the street for Christ (his regular busking spot was uptown on Sixth) Moondog put on a Viking costume, with spear and horned helmet; and he dressed like this until the late 1970s (by which time he was working with orchestras in Germany). Moondog's renown was extensive: Igor Stravinsky lobbied a judge on Moondog's behalf. Charlie Parker wanted to play with him, Julie Andrews DID play with him, and he was feted by the likes of Bob Dylan, Marlon Brando, and Steve Reich. Andy Warhol's mother designed one of his covers, and Weegee took photographs of him (included in the booklet). Janis Joplin covered him, Mr. Scruff owes him badly, and Antony and the Johnsons covers his songs. This is the first retrospective of Moondog's music -- 36 tracks from 1949-1995, most of them exceptionally rare, all of them miraculous.

OAKEATER- MOLECH LP (nihilist, usa)
15.98usd/8.04gbp/10.16eur/1717jpy (approx)

IRR.APP.(EXT.)/PANICSVILLE- SPLIT LP (nihilist, usa)
15.98usd/8.04gbp/10.16eur/1717jpy (approx)

*Over three years in the making! The venerable and exquisite Irr. App. (Ext.) create some of the most intriguing experimental work being produced these days, not to mention the amazing accompanying visual art of Mat Waldron which will make this release an instant classic. Panicsville delve deeper into a place of uncharted plasma coated dreams, to deliver a surrealistic soundtrack for decaying matter. This LP is in an edition of 500 copies pressed on 140 gram marbled vinyl, housed in pro-pressed jackets.

MLEHST- NOTES OF OBSCURE ORIGIN LP (nihilist, usa)
15.98usd/8.04gbp/10.16eur/1717jpy (approx)

*Nihilist is extremely proud to present "Notes of Obscure Origin" by MLEHST. From a history shrouded in mystery, and a back catalog of recordings treading dark and strange territories, Mlehst delivers their finest work here with "Notes of Obscure Origin". Recorded in 1996, and now 10 years later this ominously eerie album has been unleashed from some dark pit! For those of you unfamiliar with the work of MLEHST, (similiar to early Whitehouse & Nurse With Wound) this is most certainly a definitive example of their greatness. This LP will be a limited edition of 200 copies on 140 gram black vinyl with cover artwork by Andy Ortmann.

THE BROKEN PENIS ORCHESTRA- TESTICLE DIFFICULTIES LP (nihilist, usa)
15.98usd/8.04gbp/10.16eur/1717jpy (approx)

*Dick Flick conductor in chief, displays a wild and twisted array of sound collages that pull your ears through your brain and back again, (not unlike early Negativland or Nurse With Wound). This is the debut LP for B.P.O. and will be a limited pressing of 300 copies on 152 gram black vinyl.

V/A- THE WIERD COMPILATION VOLUME II: ANALOGUE ELECTRONIC MUSIC 2008 4LP (wierd, usa)
46.98usd/23.65gbp/29.87eur/5047jpy (approx)

*An international collection of 39 trax by 30 bands producing contemporary music with analogue synthesizers, sequencers, and drum machines. This release is made up of four vinyl LPs packaged in a deluxe gatefold sleeve and accompanied by a 32-page 12" x 12" book containing lyrics, band bios, and over 300 photos, many taken from live performances at the weekly Wierd label party, which has been active in New York City since 2003. Also included in the booklet is a statement of purpose for this vast project entitled 2008: The Analogue Synthesizer as a Folk Instrument of Humanist Resistance that is as ambitious conceptually as it is musically. Over the past several years, electronic musicians have slowly removed themselves from the visceral aspect of musical expression as they have more completely embraced the computer as the generator of contemporary sounds. It is in this climate that the Wierd Compilation Volume II proposes that analogue electronic music no longer represents a post-apocalyptic vision of an uncertain 'post-human' future as it once did at the inception of New Wave in the late 1970s. Today, the situation is precisely the opposite. In the world of 'click and drag' virtual software synths, the analogue instrument represents a new form of resistance by preserving and affirming the human presence of the artist through his direct interaction with the machines and the electricity that runs through them. In doing so, the supposedly outdated instrument is reborn as a folk instrument not unlike the acoustic guitar, violin, or hand drum. Inspired by the seminal compilations of early industrial music such as Xtract Records' The Elephant Table Album and Three Minute Symphony, Third Mind Records' Life at the Top, and the Insane Music cassette series, the Wierd Compilation Volume II brings together independent artists from the new minimal electronic music scene emerging in New York, Miami, and all throughout continental Europe with the firmly established noise scene in the U.S. In the same spirit that these early genre-traversing compilations brought together both pop and experimental artists who were united by their resistance to the superficial excesses of commercial New Wave, the artists on this release are united by their DIY attitude and their resistance to the virtual excesses of modern laptop pop. All have found analogue synthesizers to be the ideal instrument for producing raw, emotive music in a world where the human touch and presence is quickly getting clicked and dragged into oblivion. Artists include: A Squared (Germany), A Vague Disquiet (w/ Mark Solotroff of Bloodyminded, ex-Intrinsic Action/Chicago), Angel of Decay (Jonathan Canady of Deathpile/PA), Audiodakt (Germany), Charlie Draheim (Ypsilanti, MI), Demons (w/ Nate Young of Wolf Eyes/Detroit), Carlos Giffoni (No Fun Productions/NYC), Cadaver in Drag (Lexington, KY), Envenomist (Columbus, OH), Epee du Bois (NYC), Flesh Graey Display (Miami), Hive Mind (Ann Arbor, MI), Human Puppets (Athens, Greece), Led er Est (NYC), Martial Canterel (NYC), Opus Finis (Miami), Ronin (Miami), The Siamese Pearl (Miami), Pax Titania (Tallahassee, FL), Private Entertainment (Moscow, Russian Federation), Sleep Museum (NYC), Spine Scavenger (Aaron Dilloway, ex-Wolf Eyes), Staccato du Mal (Miami), Three to Forgotten (NYC), Tobias Bernstrup (Stockholm, Sweden), Vendome (Andreas Sippel of Second Decay/Germany), Waves (Damion Romero and John Wiese / Los Angeles), Wave Tank(Athens, Greece), Xeno and Oaklander(NYC), Zug Im Veins(w Geert Coppens of Twilight Ritual/Belgium).

DUBSTEP AND GRIME

LIKHAN- QUMRAN/DAOINE SIDHE 12” (7even, france)
12.98usd/6.53gbp/8.25eur/1394jpy (approx)

*Likhan is one of the original pioneers of dubstep in France. After years behind the decks spinning jungle and UK Garage on the French dancefloors he started producing in 2002, when the sound was 'dark garage.' He's already getting support from the scene leaders in dubstep including Mary Anne Hobbs who played his tracks several times. His eclectic musical influences and his safe knowledge of bass music makes Likhan's productions easily recognizable. Tight production, subtle effects and a clever use of sampling create a unique mystic musical universe. His debut twelve Terre/Uwill on 7even Recordings received a large wave of appreciation being selected as 'Single Of The Week' by Boomkat.com. An instant sell out! Likhan's back with this double A side 12'' confirming his musical talents and creativity. Two massive tracks combining dubstep, techno and dub sounds, rhythms and vibes with an impeccable production and unfussy arrangements. Qumran and Daoine Sidhe are already supported by major DJs including Mary Anne Hobbs and Bunzero. Likhan is pushing boundaries and keeping the development and enrichment of style and function at the forefront of masterly sonic objectives.

LIKHAN- TERRE/UNWILL 12” (7even, france)
12.98usd/6.53gbp/8.25eur/1394jpy (approx)

*restocked… "There's really very little music released under the dubstep umbrella that gets us excited these days, but the last couple of weeks have been an absolute treasure trove of low-end goodness for the more progressive bass-heads among you. Enter Likhan, a French operator who we know close to nothing about but who's pushing all the right buttons as far as we're concerned, here punching in two stripped bass killers that will absolutely crush dub reductionists amongst you with its impeccable production and unfussy arrangements. Admittedly we think this material sounds much much better slowed down to 33, but nonetheless Likhan has bought himself entry to that exclusive club inhabited by the likes of A Made Up Sound, Peverelist, Appleblim, T++ and the like, pushing boundaries and keeping the development and enrichment of style and function at the forefront of masterly sonic objectives."

MUNDO- FEAR NO ONE/HEAR YOUTS 10” (dub assembly, uk)
12.98usd/6.53gbp/8.25eur/1394jpy (approx)

*Latest drops from Texan badman Jason Mundo on Dub Assembly. 'Fear No One' rocks a taut rhythm beneath his rampant bass growl while Mundo tweaks out chops worthy of a big soundsystem. 'Hear Youts' employs screwed basslines inside the breakbeat meets steppers envelope and adds a fractured top end dubbed to infinity. Rude.

DUBCHILD- LETHAL DUBZ PT. 2 12” (heavy artillery, uk)
14.98usd/7.54gbp/9.52eur/1609jpy (approx)

*Dubchild leads the charge for Rossi B and Luca's Heavy Artillery movement, featuring on 004 with the dubstep wobbler 'Mighty Riddim' and 006 with his huge remix of Calenda's 'Forever.' This second volume of Lethal Dubz for the label features 4 stand-out instrumental tracks, covering the full spectrum of the underground UK sound currently taking the world by storm combining dubstep, grime, UKG, electro and break beat influences, this guy knows no boundaries. Standout cut has to be the appropriately named 'Knockout Riddim,' solely for the exterminator bassline -- murder.

FORSAKEN- HYPNOTISED/FIGHTING SPIRIT 12” (immerse, uk)
12.98usd/6.53gbp/8.25eur/1394jpy (approx)

*Bristol-based Forsaken has been producing his uniquely musical mix of beats and bass for several years now, garnering attention from across the world, the web and blogosphere, but vinyl releases have been scarce save for a tune on Immerse Records' Substratum EP and a 12" for Peverelist's imprint Punch Drunk. Luckily, Immerse Records, celebrating its 2nd year, steps once more into the fray to deliver an imaginative twelve from Forsaken which is joyously unfettered by trends or orthodoxies, and full of his obvious love for music, melody and color. 'Hypnotised' takes a snippet of Tweet as its mantra and builds a bumpy groove around it, where busy kicks and snare drums are surrounded by snaking bass, and a subtle skank punctuates the organic blend of Rhodes and strings. Heads down, eyes shut and let the beats run riot. 'Fighting Spirit' takes a more epic approach, blending eastern zithers with a wild selection of ethnic percussion that takes a cue from London's emerging Funky scene. Mixed with thunderous bass and soothing pads, Forsaken carefully balances the mood to create a sure-fire future classic.

KUTCAINE & RYBACK- FRATTON/CHAMPION 10” (smbc, uk)
12.98usd/6.53gbp/8.25eur/1394jpy (approx)

*Fresh dubstep business from Manc yunguns Kutcaine & Ryback for SMBC records. A-side 'Fratton' is an ambitious dubstep effort, coming on with the halfstep framework and sub heavy bass drops, but containing more edits and switches than your average orthodox dubbers track. 'Champion' on the flip takes the edits further, cutting up some breakbeats into floor-friendly shapes.

JOKER/TRG- SNAKE EATER/MOVE DIS 12” (soul motive, uk)
12.98usd/6.53gbp/8.25eur/1394jpy (approx)

*New label Soul Motive with a stunning debut. Based in Bristol, UK, Soul Motive is dedicated to bringing you quality, bass-driven music from dance floor bangers to deep leftfield styles, from breaks to 4/4 and everything in between. Think Planet Mu meets Mo Wax. Think music to get your skank on. SMR001 is a double A-side featuring two of dubstep and grime's heaviest, most talked-about artists. Coming as a fully art-worked single release on vinyl, this is the start of something. Joker - 'Snake Eater' -- coming with his first official release since his critically acclaimed EP on Earwax, Joker's next release has been hotly anticipated from grime and dubstep fans alike. Presenting a different style to his previous offerings, 'Snake Eater' is a crunk banger with a grime twist, a soul-grabbing vocal hook and a seriously healthy dose of bass. Instant reload! TRG ? 'Move Dis' -- Romanian TRG is very much man of the moment and is playing an influential part in helping dubstep remember its UK garage roots. With a plethora of releases on a wide range of labels he is shaping the sound of now. 'Move Dis' is a classic swinging steppa with a nasty, rolling bassline underpinning the subtle percussive groove. Guaranteed to make ya shake.

SARANTIS- SOCIETY/ECLIPSE 12” (subsonik, uk)
11.98usd/6.03gbp/7.62eur/1287jpy (approx)

*Close followers of the dubstep scene will be all too aware of the mighty Transition cutting rooms, tucked away on an anonymous industrial estate in deepest south London. You know you're onto a big tune when Jason, the seasoned and gregarious engineer there, deigns to make a comment etched into the runout groove of the bassiest lacquers in England. For 'Society,' the succinct comment is 'Oh my god' -- ticklers style top end plays over mammoth bass drops until the breakdown, a heavily mangled diva vocal takes the track into lift off -- big tune 'Eclipse' is righteous tackle for all you ravers out there, muscular hyperspeed percussion skitters over seismic low end pressures -- killer materials from Manchester's own Subsonik label, an imprint growing in authority with every release.

SUKH KNIGHT- BORN INVINCIBLE 12” (true tiger, uk)
12.98usd/6.53gbp/8.25eur/1394jpy (approx)

*After months of heavy support from the underground's tastemakers, the debut EP from dubstep producer extraordinaire Sukh Knight is set to hit shelves on 12th May. Marking the way as True Tiger's first vinyl foray into dubstep (having previously featured in conjunction on releases with labels such as Kraken and Destructive) the Born Invincible EP is an indication of things to come from the label and producer. The list of supporters of Sukh Knight reads as a who's who of electronic music's royalty: Sinden, Hatcha, N-Type, Mary Anne Hobbs, Ras Kwame and many more. Plastician closed the night at a recent legendary DMZ event, giving you an idea of the impact this debut has made. The EP itself takes a trip through Sukh's inspirations and talent, and has given True Tiger the opportunity to really exercise the modern approach to marketing exciting underground music. The highly sought after Born Invincible, after months of exclusive play from dubstep's top echelon, has now been graced with a video to celebrate Sukh's love of old kung fu films that inspired the tune. Jinglist has been one of the repeated anthems on radio and at raves for the past 5 months, with its thudding bassline and eerie atmospherics. Finally Sukh Knight brings one of the UK's hottest artists Badness on board to lace 'Shooting Stars,' combining an element of dubstep's old roots with the new jump up style of dubstep that has emerged in the past two years. With radio play on BBC Radio 1, Kiss 100, BBC 1Xtra, Pyroradio, Rinse FM, Sub FM and more, there is no doubt that you will be hearing Sukh's tracks at clubs, on radio and at festivals worldwide for a long time to come.

ROOTED- RIGHTEOUSNESS/BABYLON BOXER 12” (wonderland, uk)
12.98usd/6.53gbp/8.25eur/1394jpy (approx)

*After a welcome and overdue revival of the original half-step anthem 'What' riddim for WND 002, Wonderland tough it up with some dread futurism inna 2008 dubstep style. Sanctified dub wise movements gather under a toast to jah -- one listen to the low end rigors of 'Righteousness' and you can just imagine the haul up requests projecting through the summer dances. Possibly even better is the tubby young jammy 'Babylon Boxer' which rides a prime steppers riddim apparently from its seventies origins, through the twock and synthetics of the dancehall era, slap bang landing in the enhanced bass pressure of modern production values. Outright sound system killer.

HOUSE, TECHNO AND DISCO

THE TOXIC AVENGER- BAD GIRLS NEED LOVE TOO 12” (boxon, france)
12.98usd/6.53gbp/8.25eur/1394jpy (approx)

*Including remixes from Les Petits Pilous (Boys Noize Records) and Leonard De Leonard (Ekler'o'Shock Records).

MODESELEKTOR- HAPPY BIRTHDAY! REMIXED #1 12” (bpitch control, germany)
12.98usd/6.53gbp/8.25eur/1394jpy (approx)

*This is the first remix package of Happy Birthday!, by Berlin-based Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary aka Modeselektor. "Godspeed" and "The White Flash" (feat. Thom Yorke) are the first out of a row of remixes. "Godspeed," with its emotional bass lines, has never been released on vinyl. "The White Flash" is a stunning and acclaimed collaboration, and Trentemøller's remix is a monster with a tight beat that hits the spot. Yorke's vocals stand alone, only supported by a lovely chord. Stunning.

SETY- SWEET & SOUR 12” (circus company, france)
12.98usd/6.53gbp/8.25eur/1394jpy (approx)

*After 8 years of running Circus Company, Sety finally releases his first EP. "Mogane" is a deep house track with a strong cinematic vibe that builds into intergalactic territory. Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts' remix has an extra-funky bass line, a jacking start-stop groove, and some chopped-up gospel samples. "Fogo Puro" has fresh percussion, vocal accents, and a low-end piano loop. The bonus beat of "Fogo Puro" strips it down to just the vocal percussion and the basic groove.

IN FLAGRANTI- FIRMLY PLANTED MEMORIES 12” (codek, switzerland)
12.98usd/6.53gbp/8.25eur/1394jpy (approx)

*A new In Flagranti under his own moniker. Four-tracker of pure club enjoyment. Features two In Flagranti tracks, plus tracks by Lord Isis and Eldridge & Huey.

V/A- GIMME YOUR LOVE/HAIRCUT/LOVE BOOT/MUSIC SWEET 12” (d-classics, france)
12.98usd/6.53gbp/8.25eur/1394jpy (approx)

*The label has been on a roll lately, for our biggest pleasure of course. This time the re-edit package is a split action between our man Orestt, and mysterious (but pretty famous UK DJ) Man From Soho. Action comes in four tracks. Orestt grants us with 'Closer-To-The-Edge' re-rub in the form of 'Haircut,' originally a UK disco no-wave obscure 12'', and 'Giving Love,' an '80s London classic. Flip side sees Man From Soho going into rooter places with two winner cuts on a more Afro-meets-South America path. We luuuurv!

JAMES FLAVOUR- CODE OF THE STREETS 12” (dirt crew, germany)
12.98usd/6.53gbp/8.25eur/1394jpy (approx)

*After numerous releases for labels like Highgrade, Brique Rouge and other remix duties on his own labels, James Flavour, residing in Berlin for 14 years now, really took his time to bring you these three full-on club tracks. Taking a different approach to his sound, the idea was to create a more reduced minimal groove with dubby influences as they can only be delivered from Berlin city.

PHOTONZ- TREMBLER 12” (dirty, france)
12.98usd/6.53gbp/8.25eur/1394jpy (approx)

*New release on the constant screamer Dirty label. This time with the likes of Photonz. And including a club stormer remix from Discodeine.

SEBASTIAN- MOTOR MOMY ARMY 12” (because, france)
12.98usd/6.53gbp/8.25eur/1394jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… What can we say? The return from the one and only prince of it all. Three tracker, all killer dancefloor burners. Amazing follow-up to the acclaimed and sooo sought-after Walkman2/Killing In The Name.

SEBASTIAN- SMOKING KILLS 12” (ed banger, france)
12.98usd/6.53gbp/8.25eur/1394jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… 2008 repress of this 2005 12" release. Sebastian, a 23 years old Parisian beatmaker, that's all you need to know! His influences: Aphex Twin, Timbaland, Prince, Jean-Louis Costes, Pendercki, Kraftwerk, Autechre, Brian Eno, Abdel Halim Hafez, David Bowie, LFO... Classical... jazz... anything interesting in fact.

SEBASTIAN- ROSS ROSS ROSS 12” (ed banger, france)
11.98usd/6.03gbp/7.62eur/1287jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… Erol Alkan lights the fire when he first played 'Ross Ross Ross' in his Essential mix. This track became a must-have. It's been almost 6 months. Since then, Sebastian dropped a dozen of remixes. Uffie, Kelis, Daft Punk, Mylo, Editors, Kavinsky and more got the Sebastian treatment. Then he concentrated on his own productions to deliver 2 monsters. The dramatico-cut up beat 'Head/Off' & the club banger 'Walkman’.

ZONGAMIN- BONGO SONG 12” (ed banger, france)
11.98usd/6.03gbp/7.62eur/1287jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… Remixes by Jackos and Mr. Flash. Bongo Song is Zongamin's very first single from his forthcoming full-length to be released on XL Recordings later next year. It's available today on the rising French label Ed Banger Records. On the flip, French hip hop producer Mr Flash is providing Da Beats. Think El-P meets Oizo. In France, we call that sound 'La nouvelle Old-School' (Da New Old School sound). Also included a remix from Jackos, from the legendary Parisian Toxic parties.

DJ MEHDI- I AM SOMEBODY 12” (ed banger, france)
11.98usd/6.03gbp/7.62eur/1287jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… DJ Mehdi is back! Cult French hip-hop producer with no boundaries (something like a French equivalent of DJ Premier or Pharrell Williams), Mehdi will release his second solo album Lucky Boy before the summer. In the meantime, please enjoy his comeback single 'I Am Somebody,' a hybrid electro-hip-pop affair with the voice of fellow Canadian gangsta-poppers Chromeo. And let's not forget Kenny Dope's return in slammin form with two incredible ruff remixes reminiscent of the golden Dopewax-era, which will certainly set any dancefloor on fire, hip-house stylee!

KRAZY BALDHEAD- DRY GUILLOTINE 12” (ed banger, france)
11.98usd/6.03gbp/7.62eur/1287jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… As you probably know now, here at Ed Banger records we like it dirty, we like it noisy and we like it broken. Krazy Baldhead knows that and he's doing it well. To break it, he called his Brooklyn white b-boy Tes on 'Crazy Muthafuckas.' To make it dirty he sliced some organ arpeggios with some 808 beats on 'Dry Guillotine,' you'll lose your head on this one! Everybody is talking about the NEW RAVE -- You really wanna talk about it with us? OK here we go! We asked Big Beat king and Wharehouse hustla Midfield General to remix 'Crazy Muthafuckas.' The result is a big room track (a little bit influenced by a famous 1990 rave anthem you all know), please throw your whistle in the air.

MR. OIZO- TRANSEXUAL/PATRICK 122 12” (ed banger, france)
12.98usd/6.53gbp/8.25eur/1394jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… 2007 will be Mr. Oizo's year. A brand new 12" Transexual that once again shows Oizo love for weirdos and a first movie, Steak, a story about milk & plastic surgery. Yes, yes on Ed Banger Records -- who else could release those infamous tracks. 'Patrick 122' is already a club favorite played by the whole Ed Rec crew.

UFFIE- F1RST LOVE 12” (ed banger, france)
12.98usd/6.53gbp/8.25eur/1394jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… Uffie's third 12" is here to show she's got more skills than your sister. Mr. Oizo goes radio-friendly with 'F1rst Love' while Feadz cruises ghetto with 'Brand New Car’.

HOT CHIP- ONE PURE THOUGHT 2X12” (emi, uk)
21.98usd/11.06gbp/13.97eur/2361jpy (approx)

*A1. One Pure Thought; B1. Dominik Eulberg Remix; C1. Supermayer Remix; D1. Hot Chip V.I.P. Mix… The various remixes have been going down really well and picking up plays from Simian Mobile Disco, Laurent Garnier, Prins Thomas, Hernan Catteneo, Unabombers and Sinden, among others. They helped the track hit the top 5 on the Zzub Chart and top 10 in Cool Cuts.

BURGER/VOIGT- ROTER PLATZ 12” (kompakt, germany)
12.98usd/6.53gbp/8.25eur/1394jpy (approx)

*In rhythmical movements, the sperm cell swims towards the egg cell and both unite. DNA molecules dance together. Pulsating compressions of energy fields interact, multiplying and differentiating. A new creature is formed that goes through the different processes of earthly evolution accompanied by the mighty drumbeat of its mother's heart. It is shaken by the pulse-beat that augurs destination, wholeness, harmony. Feeling safe within this rhythm, the heart of the creature assumes shape and responds with its own pulse-beat.

DIEGO CAPRI & ANDREA GENTILE- SMOKER 12” (metroline limited, uk)
12.98usd/6.53gbp/8.25eur/1394jpy (approx)

*Rome's Diego Capri and Andrea Gentile return with two more slices of bass-heavy minimal techno. "Smoker" is a mean builder of a track. A tight, solid kick and bass arrangement keeps the delay-soaked percussion in check. "Writer" is a dark slab of industrial dub. Machine noises crackle and grind, creating intricate rhythms until the lead synth drives the track forward. The Agaric remix takes things in a much more solid techno direction -- an intense and constantly evolving tech-funk marathon.

CLAUDE VONSTROKE- SCARLET MACAW 12” (mothership, germany)
12.98usd/6.53gbp/8.25eur/1394jpy (approx)

*The deep jungle can be an intimidating place. Home to bird-eating spiders, deadly jaguars, and fierce natives, most ordinary folks wouldn't last more than a day. Fortunately, the jungle also holds plenty of swingable vines, feastable roots & berries, and the great 'Scarlet Macaw.' Label boss Claude VonStroke's first record on Mothership is an ode to this majestic bird. In the original version, ominous strings support a complicated percussive ecosystem of coconuts, bananas, and crocodile spines. The swinging jungle techno is also punctuated by a sparse series of analogue outbursts. 'Scarlet Macaw Unstrung' takes the jumpy workout a step further, stripping the strings and emphasizing the raw energy of the bare drums. Both versions show an unexpected deeper side of VonStroke that has popped up lately on his remixes of 'Warpaint' (Hussle) and 'Pitch It' (Connaisseur). Edgar Dirksen's star is on the rise. Well known from Neuton to Cocoon as everybody's friend, he follows up his 2007 release on Weave Music with the retro-tinged 'Scarlet Macaw' remix, guiding the tune back to civilization through a maze of icy decompression chambers.

SOFT ROCKS- DISCO POWER PLAY VOLUME 3 12” (soft rocks, uk)
12.98usd/6.53gbp/8.25eur/1394jpy (approx)

*Killer oddball disco not disco re-edits, from the 'as famous as mysterious' Soft Rocks combo. Amazing work, as much for dancefloors as for home listening, Afro-disco, with the twist makes this 12'' a total unmissable hit.

ROCK, POP AND PSYCHEDELIC

WARMER MILKS- SOFT WALKS CD (animal disguise, usa)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.39eur/1399jpy (approx)

*The second proper full-length in the expansive and elusive discography of Warmer Milks, Soft Walks is a unique blend of southern rock, improv and modern confusion. Features Michael Turner, Shawn David McMillen, Greg Backus and Travis Shelton (Cadaver In Drag), Paul Oldham (Bonnie Billy Band, Baby Dee Band, Speed To Roam) and Amber Kinglsey. Subject matter includes what grows, what dies, and where we fit in between. Michael Turner has been making music under the guise of Warmer Milks since 2003 and while he tries to bury the name year after year, queer circumstances always bring it back. The group has numerous tours in the States under their belt as well as one European trip to date. Warmer Milks plan on hitting the road this summer on the Midwest and East Coast in support of Soft Walks. We are very excited to welcome Warmer Milks into the ADR family. With this release being their first of 4 albums scheduled to be released in 2008, they will now truly emerge from the ghetto of the cassette/CD-R underworld and finally attract the attention they deserve.

CAT POWER- JUKEBOX DELUXE 2LP (matador, usa)
29.98usd/15.23gbp/19.37eur/3232jpy (approx)

*deluxe version of this album from earlier this year, housed in a really really nice silver-foil gatefold cover with bonus disc containing extra tracks. her second album of cover songs, this one a tribute to the great vocalists who have influenced her over the years.

ENDLESS BOOGIE- FOCUS LEVEL 2LP (no quarter, usa)
17.98usd/9.13gbp/11.61eur/1938jpy (approx)

ENDLESS BOOGIE- FOCUS LEVEL CD (no quarter, usa)
13.98usd/7.10gbp/9.03eur/1507jpy (approx)

*listed this one too early a couple weeks back… welp, it’s out for ‘real’ now and it’s the best rock record of 2008. period. Endless Boogie began with no delusions of grandeur. They started off as an 'old man's hobby' -- just dudes jamming on riffs, locking into grooves, finding that transcendental part of a song and stretching it into eternity. Then they were offered a show. They played more shows. They self-released two very limited 12"s and were called the best-kept secret in New York by Paper magazine. They toured with Dungen and Circle and were invited by Slint to play All Tomorrows Parties. Now they've made the best rock record to come out of New York City in years (maybe decades). No, that's not an exaggeration. What more needs to be said? There aren't many bands with a more appropriately descriptive name. Rather than try and explain it, we'd prefer you just buy the album. It's 79 minutes long. It's the perfect soundtrack to the hot summer nights. Hanging out in the basement. Smoking figs in the yard. Vinyl version is a double LP presented in a deluxe old-style tip-on gatefold jacket and includes coupon for free MP3 download of album.

ROKY ERICKSON AND THE EXPLOSIVES- HALLOWEEN: RECORDED LIVE 1979-81 2LP (norton, usa)
22.98usd/11.67gbp/14.84eur/2477jpy (approx)

*This howling live set from Roky and The Explosives' original incarnation moves from horror classics ('Creature With The Atom Brain'), to Buddy Holly-inspired rockers ('Wait For You') to a blistering version of the Elevators' 'You're Gonna Miss Me.' Norton's gatefold double LP comes with a different cover than the CD version and on the preferred miracle PVC format! We gave you the warning -- now make sure you heeded it! 2LP gatefold set!

NOTHING PEOPLE- ANONYMOUS LP (s-s, usa)
15.98usd/8.12gbp/10.32eur/1723jpy (approx)

*Over the last couple of years, the Nothing People have released three stellar 7" records and during that time, they have built a 'fan club' that includes Anopheles Records' Karl Ikola, the guys at Victim of Time, Siltbreeze's Tom Lax, In the Red's Larry Hardy, the folks down at Your Flesh, Ryan Wells of Z Gun, and many more. And over the last couple years this 'fan club' has asked me 'when's the full length?' over and over again. Well, now they can shut the hell up, because the Nothing People's first album is here! And let me tell you this, while the Nothing Peeps have plenty of songs that yell out 'put me on a 45,' they have just as many that demand to be heard in long form. Want an example, check out 'Sickness.' It is the kind of song you want to hear on 12"s, and there are 8, 9, 10... hell, I lost count, but there are a bunch more. So, yeah, it is time for you to get a big dose of proto/glam/psych/punk/wave excellence. On clear vinyl. 600 pressed.

CAN- TAGO MAGO 2LP (united artists, usa)
19.98usd/10.15gbp/12.91eur/2154jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… With the band in full artistic flower and Suzuki's sometimes moody, sometimes frenetic speak/sing/shrieking in full effect, Can released not merely one of the best Krautrock albums of all time, but one of the best albums ever, period. Tago Mago is that rarity of the early '70s, a double album without a wasted note, ranging from sweetly gentle float to full-on monster grooves. "Paperhouse" starts things brilliantly, beginning with a low-key chime and beat, before amping up into a rumbling roll in the midsection, then calming down again before one last blast. Both "Mushroom" and "Oh Yeah," the latter with Schmidt filling out the quicker pace with nicely spooky keyboards, continue the fine vibe. After that, though, come the huge highlights -- three long examples of Can at its absolute best. "Halleluwah" -- featuring the Liebezeit/Czukay rhythm section pounding out a monster trance/funk beat; Karoli's and Schmidt's always impressive fills and leads; and Suzuki's slow-building ranting above everything -- is 19 minutes of pure genius. The near-rhythmless flow of "Aumgn" is equally mind-blowing, with swaths of sound from all the members floating from speaker to speaker in an ever-evolving wash, leading up to a final jam. "Peking O" continues that same sort of feeling, but with a touch more focus, throwing in everything from Chinese-inspired melodies and jazzy piano breaks to cheap organ rhythm boxes and near babbling from Suzuki along the way. "Bring Me Coffee or Tea" wraps things up as a fine, fun little coda to a landmark record. -Ned Raggett, amg

AVANT GARDE AND NOISE

MAMMAL- LONESOME DRIFTER 2LP (animal disguise, usa)
22.98usd/11.67gbp/14.84eur/2477jpy (approx)

MAMMAL- LONESOME DRIFTER CD (animal disguise, usa)
12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.39eur/1399jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked on vinyl, cd in stock for the first time… 'This is both the end and the beginning,' says the back cover. And with each successive release, Mammal shows us what the end is, or at least that he's definitely thinking about it. This album takes his ideas from the past up to another level as it tells a story of drifting through life until 'the beginning had already become the end.' A more personal array of ideas are on display here (including clearly audible vocals) and make the entire package the most effective Mammal release yet. Recorded during 6 months of isolation at his home in Detroit, Mammal's 4th full-length is an epic soundtrack to the industrial depression of the city. Lonesome Drifter is guitar/bass heavy while still retaining the grating textures and hypnotic repetition one would expect from Mammal. However, those looking for the constant, heavy electronics found on past releases may be sorely disappointed. In short, this is brooding, psychedelic, loner blues, and a brand new chapter in the story of Mammal. Animal Disguise Recordings is proud to present Lonesome Drifter featuring cover art by Mammal himself.

RUSSELL HASWELL- SECOND LIVE SALVAGE 2LP (editions mego, austria)
31.98usd/16.25gbp/20.66eur/3448jpy (approx)

*This is the long-awaited follow-up to the award-winning Live Salvage 1997-2000 cd. Hot on the heels of recent collaborative releases with Florian Hecker (as Haswell & Hecker) on Warner Classics, Warp Records and Editions Mego, Coventry, UK's Russell Haswell presents the second volume of his Live Salvage archive series. This series documents improvised real-time, computer-generated audio presentations given over the past 10 years in different types of venues, all with contrasting acoustics and audiences. Editions Mego is proud to announce this double vinyl LP set. As NME asserted of this series, "now you can experience the terror in your own home”.

16.98usd/8.63gbp/10.97eur/1830jpy (approx)

*shop favorite in stock for the first time… In bluegrass, there's an oft-cited Holy Trinity: Stanley Brothers, Bill Monroe and Flatt & Scruggs. For a truly despairing, spectral, high-lonesome sound, however, Ralph (keening tenor, banjo) and Carter (earthy baritone, guitar) Stanley stand alone. This, the first complete collection of the rare 78s featuring their earliest, formative recordings for the Rich-R-Tone label, presents the Stanleys at their rawest and most unadorned.

REGGAE, DANCEHALL AND CALYPSO

PRINCE DOUGLAS- DUB ROOTS LP (wackie’s, germany)
17.98usd/9.13gbp/11.61eur/1938jpy (approx)

*shop favorite finally restocked… Engineer Douglas Levy was part of the original Wackies set up from 1974-75, alongside Lloyd Barnes and Jah Upton. For a while he would have his own label -- Hamma -- within the Bullwackies group; but besides Sugar Minott's International Herb, this 1980 dub album is his finest work. Wackies' fans have been clamouring for its reissue ever since Rhythm & Sound began making the catalogue available again. Many of the rhythms are derived from a tape given to the studio by Sly and Robbie, containing their versions of recent Joe Gibbs hits. And there are brilliant treatments of Tribesman Dub -- the rhythm for Tyrone Evans' Black Like Me -- and Wayne Jarrett's definitive interpretation of 'Every Tongue Shall Tell.' Elsewhere Jah Batta takes deejay duties -- likewise Prince Douglas himself. (And there are lovely skewed graphics by team regular Leslie Moore, self-styled 'LAM International'). But the deadliest cut of all reworks another gift, Steel Pulse's 'Handsworth Revolution,' which arrived in a parcel of records from England the same weekend as the session: 'March Down Babylon Dub,' with Bullwackie himself at the microphone in his Chosen Brothers guise, as steely and apocalyptic as Douglas Levy's fabulous production.

12.98usd/6.59gbp/8.39eur/1399jpy (approx)

*A limited re-press of the second part of the collaborative double-EP by Ricardo Villalobos and Jay Haze from 2004 (part 1 is Context 008); originally released 2005… Twisted flavors and electronic psychedelia. A welcome revisit of past work from two innovative producers whose music straddles the line between practical dancefloor tracks and artful compositions. Although their cosmic connection dates back years before, Ricardo Villalobos and Jay Haze first met in person in New York City in 1999. Wearing a TuningSpork Records T-shirt, Jay showed up to see Ricardo DJ one night, and Ricardo approached him to mention that he was a fan of the label. Jay responded that he was in fact the co-owner, and the two were buddies ever since. Establishing themselves in Berlin in the early part of the new millennium, they shared a studio space together, which naturally led to some musical collaboration. Not too long after their original release in the summer and autumn of 2004, the twin EPs have been out of print and hard to obtain, until now. Contexterrior brings you the reissue of both 12"s, featuring six co-productions highlighted by their consistent quality within a variety of sounds: tasty acid elements, deep soulful moments, and the trademark sub-bass and buzz guaranteed to put any club subwoofer to work.

V/A- BAIA DEGLI ANGELI 1977-1978: THE LEGENDARY ITALIAN DISCOTEQUE OF THE 70s CD (mediane, italy)
19.98usd/10.15gbp/12.91eur/2154jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… The Baia Degli Angeli. It’s not exaggerate to say everything started there. The golden age of disco, clubbing, glamour: just everything. I’m not saying ‘discoteques’ were a novelty (although in Italy were still called nightclubs, or ‘balere’). There was the Piper, in 1965, which instilled a little bit of ‘swingin’ London inside the ancient walls of the ‘the eternal city’, Roma. There was the Altro Mondo Studios, built up as a kind of spaceship or galactic island, which in ‘67 was making believe young riminesi (not only them, anyways) that Future with capital ‘F’, the one of Urania and the first sci-fi tv series, was just a question of weeks, or a couple of months at the most. But from the start the Baia was another story. Another world, too. It started in1974, on the edge of the still big ’68 revolutionary excitement and also on the grandeur of his creator, Giancarlo Tirotti, a little local tycoon, well introduced in roman cinema’s jet-set and a taste and elegance definitely ‘international’ and - for those days - absolutely new. Let’s say it once for all: the New York’s Studio 54 hasn’t invented anything. Mixing ‘stars’ and normal people in a beautiful place, in a way that simply ‘being there’ was already an experience, it was a bright intuition of Tirotti three years in advance of Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager. At the Baia you could meet Hollywood’s movie stars transiting in Italy, and by the way - before the conversion into disco, it was a sporting-club for the rich - with those totally white walls, the indoor and outdoor pools, the terrace where one could get a breathtaking view of Gabicce, it looked just like a Californian resort. Music - another news - was loud, really loud, and there was no rule of ‘three slows & three shakes’, something still in vigour in all the other clubs. And it was open till 6 a.m., you could watch the dawn at the Baia... listening to the new Philly Sound, played by Bob Day and Tom Sison the two dj’s Tirotti brought from New York. Punctually, all the other djs from Rimini and Riccione would come at the Baia to listen what Bob & Tom were doing, and it was always a shock! Firstly for the records, which both of them were getting right from USA, and the tecnique, too... In those days, putting a piece of paper between the record and the turntable, in order to get a faster start and a better mixing, was just a revolutionary strike... The day Bob & Tom decided to go back to America, they themselves - like a Star Wars saga - had to designate a substitute for the Baia’s consolle. It is 1977, and the chosen one is a young local dj already well known to the nightflies of the italian East Coast: Daniele Baldelli. In the meantime discomusic was spreading everywhere in Italy. The Baia - like a Fiorucci’s dream come true - displays plexiglass dancefloors and a crazy dj-booth inside a lift that goes up and down all the night long... the people is dancing on the 4 floors, look around and feel like being in a very ‘transgressive’ tv show, like the famous Strix on sunday nights. Rivers of champagne and a lot of very suspicious little powders are flowing... Actors, intellectuals and starlets of the little screen are usual presence on the dance floors and sofas. Grace Jones is so often a guest to become practically part of the environment. How beautiful was the Baia! Always completely white. Not a minute wrong detail, nor a hint of bad taste to ruin the elegant skyline. Only light, bright light... A battery of lights effects on a mechanical arm was moving and spreading around very sexy showers of lights and shadows. The little neon-light angel, sort of good-luck symbol who became the Baia’s logo and occasionally some exploit a-la-Warhol (like the Marylin Monroe’s icon deliriously librated in the air with stripes & ballons). The ‘golden age’ of the Baia Degli Angeli lasted only two seasons. In ‘78, after repeated breaks by the Police is the definitive closing. Too much fuss, too much intimidations from the sleepy establishment of the adriatic riviera. Too many ‘joyous powders’, for the Authority. A press document of the time (just a laughing matter today) states that the Baia «with is mere existence is promoting drugs between young people». The little air-balloon who gave birth to the glittering dream of the Baia was finally blown up... and the legend begins. And, as always goes when legends are born (think about NewYork’s Loft or Paradise Garage, or Chicago’s Warehouse), everybody started saying «I’ve been there», when actually just very few people stepped at the Baia, and danced to the music of Baldelli and his associate, the ‘generous’ Claudio ‘Mozart’ Rispoli. Those were other days... days were one wasn’t trotting up and down Italy with the same easyness of today: but if the wheels of the 128’s and the 500’s would not reach everywhere, the ‘mixtapes’ with the recordings of those legendary nights would. The popping out of a ‘mixtape’ from the Baia Degli Angeli in a provincial italian city was an event able to change the course of History. A lot of dj’s (today superstars) , one name for all: Claudio Coccoluto, have seen the Light listening to the ‘mixtapes’ of Baldelli & Mozart, which were just doing incredible things back then, mixing Kraftwerk, War & Jean Luc Ponty, with the smooth and comfort of someone who understood that music is a big treasure box from where one can track down shining gems. The Baia is the place who gave birth to the italian ‘dj culture’, and where ‘garage’ was invented, three years in advance from the Paradise Garage and ‘ambient’ ten years before ambient, mixing styles and genres with the absolutely open ‘attitude’ that Baldelli would bring out as a real trade mark of his own, starting from the subsequent adventure of the ‘Cosmic’, on the lake of Garda, the place where the so-called ‘afro’ phenomenon was born. But that’s another story... Fabio De Luca, june 2005.

V/A- DANIELE BALDELLI PRESENTS COSMIC CD (mediane, italy)
19.98usd/10.15gbp/12.91eur/2154jpy (approx)

*Post-disco and electro grooves all strung together beautifully! The Cosmic was the successor to Baia Degli Angeli, and featured the same DJ -- Daniele Baldelli -- but a very different sound overall -- one that was much more tuned to the electronic modes bubbling forth from England, Germany, and New York in the early 80s -- sounds that were sometimes stark and spare, sometimes warm and funky -- and which are remembered beautifully on the music in this set. The CD features 20 discreet tracks that include "Endless Race" by Wally Badarou, "This Man" by Phill & The Friends, "Maccaroni Radio" by Eddy Trauba & MM Greco, "Pages" by Axxess, "State Of The Nation" by Fad Gadget, "Cosmic Parsley" by Daniele Baldelli, "Pagaia" by Tony Esposito, "Touch" by Secession, "While You Want" by New Music, "African Rapness" by Chris Hinze, "Chinese Revenge" by Koto, and "Lescudjack" by Michael Chapman. -dustygroove

in order to get some money together for future tsr releases (jack rose, brown recluse sings, serpent throne, etc…), i’ve started putting some of the more interesting (and yes in many cases, more costly, but hey…) items off of the walls in the shop up onto the website. while these records are available for a set cost and there are no time limits, they are, in all but one case, single items and thus are available on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis, so don’t snooze.

also, as they sell, i will be replacing them with more (i just moved and still have boxes of records to go through that will most likely find their way on to the site), so check back.

all items are available as postage paid north America/world, but if you are interested in any of them and would like to either pick them up at the shop or would like me to bring them up to the next brooklyn flea (june 29), email or call for a price quote minus shipping, but i will require that the item is paid for in advance.

i hope you see something of interest!

thanks

anthony vogdes

NEW ARRIVALS/RESTOCKS FOR FRIDAY, JUNE 13

NEW ARRIVALS AND RESTOCKS FRIDAY, JUNE 13

thanks for looking.

alright, alright, i know, it’s been HOT out… but guess what, that’s what happens in the summertime! and you know what else? this part of the world gets especially humid too! REALLY! it happens this time EVERY YEAR! that said, you can either sit inside and complain about it or you can grab yourself a cool beverage (i myself prefer water or iced coffee) and ‘STICK IT’ to mother nature and venture out for some COOL sounds (and maybe some food while you’re at it). as promised, this week’s list is super HEAVY on the dance sounds and all of them worth sweating over (but, be forewarned, most of ‘em are single copies and way limited)… and while dance rules the roost, don’t overlook the vinyl reissue’s of rubble volumes one through ten, essential and classic beat/psych soundtracks just waitin’ for a BBQ… just mix up the sangria and go! oh yeah, and for those of you who missed the first round, the ‘african scream contest’ comp is back in… great great summertime sounds… come on by and check ‘em out!!!

gracias

anthony

SILVER APPLES- SILVER APPLES CD (phoenix, uk)
18.98usd/9.75gbp/12.31eur/2044jpy (approx)

*New, more deluxe version, with special metallic silver foil sleeve (in reference to the original Kapp label pressing, as well as the recent Phoenix LP version), including a replica of original insert in gatefold; this replaces the previous Phoenix CD edition (ASH 3003CD). This is a reissue of the self-titled first album by '60s electronic legends Silver Apples, originally released by Kapp Records in 1968. Fresh off their stint as The Overland Stage Electric Band, Simeon and Dan Taylor formed their own extravagant, two-man electronic space-odyssey, Silver Apples, to pretty remarkable critical acclaim. Their debut enjoyed a 10-week stay in Billboard's Top 100 list, and the album's first track, "Oscillations," made the Top 10 list in numerous cities around the U.S. The music critics loved them. "What's so amazing is that they make absolutely mind-shattering music with all this junky equipment" commented one reviewer, quite possibly astounded over the then-mindbending concept of build-it-yourself electronics combined with rock drums. The debut album features lyrics by poet Stanley Warren who met the duo at the Third Annual Avant Garde Arts Festival in 1968, organized by topless cellist Charlotte Moorman. An absolutely essential piece of musical history from electronic/psychedelic/rock music's ground-breaking legends.

SILVER APPLES- CONTACT CD (phoenix, uk)
18.98usd/9.75gbp/12.31eur/2044jpy (approx)

*This is a reissue of the second album Contact by '60s electronic legends Silver Apples, originally released by Kapp Records in 1969. This enigmatic duo, armed only with percussion, vocals and an early, specialized synthesizer, is often credited with giving the musical world its first electronic album, as well as having a significant influence on bands which followed in their wake; bands such as Ultravox and Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark. Silver Apples, named after a W.B. Yeats poem, consisted of electronics wiz Simeon Coxe and percussionist Danny Taylor. Simeon built an impressive collection of electronic paraphernalia (dubbed the "Simeon") which ultimately included a dozen oscillators, six of them tuned to bass notes which he played with his feet, an assortment of sound filters, telegraph keys, radio parts, lab gear and a variety of second-hand electronic junk. Contact ushered in the band's recorded popularity and a national tour was quickly organized. Several tracks on Contact feature bass lines provided by Simeon's banjo playing, but it is the clever use of the lead oscillator and new-found intensity of the lyrics that sets Contact apart from its predecessor. Such was the level of Simeon's growing electronic proficiency that the intro to the album's opening track, "You And I" more than successfully recreates the sound of an airplane taking off. Silver Apples all but disappeared from the musical firmament when Kapp folded in 1970, only to re-emerge in January 1997 to perform before a celeb-packed audience at the Knitting Factory. Again, the critics were unanimous. As the MC waxed poetic during an introduction to the Silver Apples concert in San Francisco, 1968: "You are about to have probably the most unusual musical experience of your life. The music will enter areas of your mind never before opened until now. At times it may be hard to understand, but if you let the music penetrate, you'll dig it."

AVANT GARDE AND NOISE

RON GEESIN- ELECTROSOUND LP (glo-spot, uk)
31.98usd/16.42gbp/20.74eur/3444jpy (approx)

*Ron Geesin's album Electrosound was originally released as part of the KPM 1100 series in 1972 by a man famed for his work with Pink Floyd, Bridget St. John and much more. This new edition of Electrosound is issued in a run of 500 copies only, pressed in sky blue vinyl streaked with white and packaged in a gatefold sleeve. Ron Geesin has personally remastered the album from his own original tapes and has written a new sleeve note which accompanies the original words from 1972. The front cover is by Ron's cartoonist son Fraser Geesin and sleeve design is by Iker Spozio, ensuring that this sits well as a companion volume to the Glo-Spot edition of the Delia Derbyshire album Electrosonic.

RON GEESIN- A RAISE OF EYEBROWS LP (earmark, italy)
22.98usd/11.80gbp/14.90eur/2474jpy (approx)

*restocked… Best known as the co-author of Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother, this tape manipulator and multi-instrumentalist released his debut on the Transatlantic label in 1967. The contents of the tracks range from bizarre audio collage ('A Raise Of Eyebrows'), to blistering freeform banjo ('Certainly Random'), to traditional jazz arrangements ('Ha! Ha! But Reasonable'), to odd spoken interludes ('Positives').

TAKEHISA KOSUGI- CATCH-WAVE CD (show boat/sky station, japan)
28.98usd/14.88gbp/18.79eur/3121jpy (approx)

*Official CD reissue (more recently repro'd by World Psychedelia), licensed from Sony Japan. Originally issued by CBS in Japan-only in 1975, this album has been as difficult to find as either of the original Taj Mahal Travellers' LPs. The descriptive text on the back jacket of this exact repro gives an insight: "sounds speeding on lights, light speeding on sounds, music between riddles & solutions." A devastating, drone-intense record (unlike Kosugi's later solo recordings for Lovely Music or P-vine; Catch-Wave is the closest follow-up recording to his Taj Mahal Travellers group in the form of group improvisation), finally accessible.

FUNK AND SOUL

JOHNNY OTIS & FRIENDS- WATTS FUNKY 2LP (beat goes public, uk)
26.98usd/13.86gbp/17.50eur/2905jpy (approx)

*key pioneer in the development of R'n'B into Rock and Roll, and as such deserves a blue plaque and other such honours. He discovered - amongst others - Etta James, Esther Phillips and Little Willie John, and his band backed Big Mama Thornton on the original version of Hound Dog. He scored umpteen hits first in the post war rhythm and blues boom and then on Capitol as Rock and Roll took over. Yet it sometimes seems that Mr. Veliotes to give him his real name is a little overlooked in the R'n'R pioneer stakes. Leiber and Stoller, Ike Turner and Sam Phillips get a lot of the props but Johnny is sometimes missing from the plaudits. Ace has for some years been looking to rectify this fault, putting out both Johnny's own Dig recordings and his major label recordings for Capitol - if you don't have them they are scorching. Now BGP has decided to delve where others have never gone before.
The last year has seen a burst of publicity for the work of Johnny's son Shuggie, who started appearing with his father's band at the age of 14. Shuggie made some great records - we have three tracks here, two of which are previously unreleased - but it was only the tip of a large iceberg of work that emerged from Johnny's Hawk Sound studios throughout the late 60s and most of the 70s. Those who like to dance to funk will already be aware of Watts Breakaway, the Vibrettes' Humpty Dump and Vera Hamilton's But I Ain't No More - each pure classics, but our excavations have dragged out potential dancefloor monsters from Delmar and Carla, Doug Wintz and Ice Water Slim. We also get to show you the great sound of Johnny's band throughout the period from the caustic blues-funk of Signifying Monkey through the 'deep funk' classic Jaws to the big band disco of Good To The Last Drop and Don't It Make You Feel Good. And for those who haven't been charmed by his own CD Omaha Bar B Q we have a touch of Preston Love.
So clearly you can see that this is a good album, but even so I've still left out the best track which is an absolute monster, which seemingly came out on a Hawk Sound 45 in 1975 - if you have one I want it. That cut Spells and Incantations is a space soul record that will appeal to anyone who has been touched by the likes of Marlena Shaw, Minnie Riperton or Lorez Alexander. Simply put it is one of the best tracks we have put out on BGP - and that's high praise on an album with Strawberry Letter 23. -Dean Rudland

FUNKADELIC- FUNKADELIC LP (westbound, uk)
21.98usd/11.29gbp/14.25eur/2367jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… This was the debut album from the weird and wonderful world of Funkadelic and they even released 'Music For My Mother' as a single with the seriously funky 'I Bet You' as a follow up.

FUNKADELIC- FREE YOUR MIND...AND YOUR ASS WILL FOLLOW LP (westbound, uk)
21.98usd/11.29gbp/14.25eur/2367jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… It's 9 May 1971 and the crowd at the Roundhouse on the Chalk Farm Road, at the northern end of the slightly run-down Camden area of London is fairly typical for the era. Loon pants, trenchcoats and a slight whiff of patchouli oil mingling with perhaps a touch of dope smoke. On the stage there are the requisite stacks of Marshall amps, that will tell you that tonight is going to be a loud experience. However look closer at the crowd and there are a few incongruous bodies in the crowd. There is a smattering of London's soul boys in the crowd. "I guess that they were hoping they might get '(I Wanna) Testify', or some other things like it" remembered Ace's Tony Rounce, a member of the audience, some 30 odd years later. They were about to be very disappointed.

FUNKADELIC- MAGGOT BRAIN LP (westbound, uk)
21.98usd/11.29gbp/14.25eur/2367jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… This was the third album for Westbound by the mighty George Clinton and his extremely merry band, and they finally wigged out in a serious manner, though they didn't forget the funk - 'Hit It And Out It'.

GLOBAL

V/A- AFRICAN SCREAM CONTEST- RAW & PSYCHEDELIC AFRO SOUNDS FROM BENIN & TOGO '70S CD (analog africa, germany)
22.98usd/11.80gbp/14.90eur/2474jpy (approx)

*shop favorite finally restocked… Spectacular package with thick 44-page booklet and slipcase packaging. This CD is licensed for release in the U.S. later in 2008, unsure if it will have the same deluxe packaging... Just like with the label's first two releases -- albums by Zimbabwean '70s bands the Green Arrows and Hallelujah Chicken Run Band -- the essence of Analog Africa is clear yet again: searching in dusty warehouses for forgotten music to keep it alive. All the tracks have been officially licensed, usually from the artists who Ben Redjeb also met with for detailed research. He conducted 16 interviews in various cities in Benin and Togo with artists, producers and sound engineers to reconstruct the history of the '70s music scene for the 44-page booklet which also includes many rare photographs directly received from the artists. Like most modern music in French-speaking West African countries, the music of Benin and Togo was influenced by a few main musical currents: Cuban, Congolese and local traditional music, as well as Chanson Francaise. Additionally, the geographical location of Benin and Togo -- sandwiched between Ghana and Nigeria -- exposed Beninese and Togolese musicians to Highlife music. The cultural and spiritual riches of traditional Beninese music had an immense impact on the sound of Benin's modern music. Benin is the birth place of Vodun (or, as it is known in the West, Voodoo), and some of the rhythms used during traditional rituals -- Sakpata, Sato, Agbadja, Tchenkoumé and many others -- were fused to soul and Latin music as early as the mid-1960s and later to funk. That fusion is the essence of this compilation. In the late '60s and early '70s, rock and soul music started creeping into the region. In particular, the music of James Brown and Johnny Halladay became immensely popular with university students. It was then that the music scene in Benin really started to take off. What made this musical revolution even more interesting is that most of the musicians could not read music. Often the music they made sounded one semi-tone away from being out of tune, but somehow they always managed to bring all the elements together into something new and exciting. One of the greatest bands of their era, Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou, who are featured on this compilation, took the Afro sound to another level by showing their musical versatility in many forms. Although they were consciously copying Western artists, they would always inject a dose of psychedelic Afro grooves that would make their music unmistakably Beninese. Their biggest song, 'Gbeti Madjro' is believed to have revolutionized the music industry in Benin in the '70s when the country went through a period of political turmoil. The song is full of raw breaks and the hypnotic rhythms as well as screams à la James Brown -- after this song, many bands in Benin started screaming on their recordings, hence the title of this compilation. Latin-influenced sounds are present on this compilation, too. Ouidah, a city on the Atlantic coast of Benin, is home to a large Brazilian community, or, as they are called in Benin, 'Agoudas.' Members of that community are descendents of slaves who returned from Brazil at the end of the 19th century. Their dances (such as Kaléta and Buriyanj) and songs are still being performed and fused into the traditional Beninese rituals. That, too, can be heard in modern Beninese music. The proximity of the giant neighbor Nigeria can be heard on the track 'Djanfa Magni' which features the amazing trumpeter/ saxophonist Tidjani Koné fronting the Orchestre Poly-Rythmo. Koné whose career started in Mali as the founder and band leader of the Rail Band de Bamako, had played with Fela Kuti for a short while hence the strong Afrobeat influence. There are countless stories to be discovered in the extremely well-researched booklet and the music is truly mind-blowing. So delve into the forgotten raw and psychedelic Afro sounds from '70s Benin and Togo and experience the African Scream Contest.

SHLOMI ABER- IN THEORY YES/EFRAT 12” (be as one, isreal)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*Shlomi Aber's relentless conquering of the techno scene is in its full stage. In just a few years, Shlomi has delivered seminal classic cuts of what could be called the 21st century techno generation. His productions are now found in the most various and different record bags worldwide, and his trademark sound has graced only legendary labels like Ovum, Cocoon, & Renaissance. Now, after his latest hits 'Tokyo Shangai' and 'Quivvery' on Ovum, Shlomi is back on his own imprint with another release just in time for the coming summer. In Theory Yes has Aber's trademark written all over and carries the concept we use to call Shlomi Aber style. It is another one of those hypnotic, groovy techno tunes that Shlomi has us used and surely won't miss the hit on the floors! 'Efrat,' on the B-side, offers a deeper approach for Shlomi's techno perspective, as Detroit and old school sounds are mixed up with a smart groove that keep the tune consistent and very effective. Serious DJs looking for their slice of 'smart techno' will surely find 'Efrat' a place in their box.

MAX ESSA- BACK TO THE BEACH 12” (bear funk, germany)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*Now then people, after dropping his super dope midnight garden EP in 2007, beardos, weirdos and slo-mo disco lovers around the world all joined hands and watched the sun go down and the moon come up. Max's blissful Essa magic has also found its way on to other people's music, for whilst working hard on his new LP for Bear Funk, he has also been busy remixing John Daly for John's own Feel Music, Rubies' 'I Feel Electric' for Telle and Coyote, 'Going Out' for Is It Balearic? (Also soon to come on Bear Funk his fantastic version of Arturo Capone's 'Waves'). On this new EP we find the first fruits from Max's hotly anticipated Continental Drift LP due to drop later this year. 'Back To The Beach' pretty much sums up Max Essa -- a melting pot of live bass live guitar, tip top drums, beautiful chord progressions and generous helpings of emotion that always have you thinking and dreaming about the sun. Max also treats us with two more superb wigged out offerings, 'Telepath' and 'Dead Acrobat.' Both have that deep disco wobble that Bear Funk lovers know and love, but the subtle guitar delays and arpeggios have you completely locked in and begging for more. Expect big things from this man in 2008!

*First EP from Boxon Records' new signing: Eclier. Remixes from Tom Deluxx. Great French electro aimed at the dancefloor.

LEE VAN DOWSKI- THE LAST RUN 12” (bpitch control, germany)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*Lee Van Dowski presents an awesome statement called The Last Run. The Geneva-based DJ and producer has releases on well-known labels such as Cadenza, Soma, Dumb-Unit, and Num Records, to name a few. The title track is influenced by classic British Warp and Rephlex electronica, developing slowly and steadily with fat, organic beats. "Rave Da House" rocks down to the ground. The sound is a bit more clean and organized, but for this reason it's totally hypnotic.

FAMILY TREE/SKYE- FAMILY TREE/AIN'T NO NEED 12” (booton, usa)
9.98usd/5.13gbp/6.47eur/1074jpy (approx)

*Reissue of legendary bootleg containing two ultra-rare disco soul tracks. These tracks are so rare that not only are the originals not listed in discogs, but the BOOTLEGS are not listed. The old bootlegs sell for $200-400 copies, and Popsike has a listing for an original promo copy of the Family Tree that sold for $1275!!! This is a faithful recreation of the original bootleg, down to the photocopied sheet glue-sticked to the cover. As all you sleepers know, Booton sells out FAST, so stay awake!

V/A- SOUNDS SUPERB VOL. 3 12” (codek, usa/switzerland)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*Third installment for In Flagranti's series of weirdo tracks and edits. This time from the likes of Frederic Sinful, Freddie Mas, Borke Woerter, and the man himself, In Flagranti. Expect an (un)usual dose of dancefloor action with the famous Sounds Superb twist that is garnering this series so much success.

V/A- SOUNDS SUPERB VOL. 1 12” (codek, usa/switzerland)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*restocked… In Flagranti launch a new series of various artists releases: Sounds Superb. Killer selection including In Flagranti himself of course, but also Oblio (with the track 'Escape'), Lobt Noch Irrt ('Heizgas Meter'), and the Codek recording artist Freddie Mas (with the killer 'Tide To The Tide'). Full perfect package. Highly recommended!

FREDDIE MAS- ARC 12” (codek, usa/switzerland)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*restocked… Citing Freddie Mas' biggest influences as 'dreams, coincidences and house parties...,' the Chicago native is determined to forge a new level of expression in popular music. For the last 5 years, he has been introducing a physical dynamic to his productions, collaborations, infamous DJ sets and performances, something that, he feels, has long been missing from a rather stoic NYC dance scene. He describes his sound as 'motion motivated' and considers music as 'inseparable from the phenomenon of gravity, yet a living art capable of greater possibilities beyond.' Freddie Mas' extremely unpredictable performances are heavenly and demonic, often simultaneously. Sometimes dangerous but never stingy, he aims for textural and emotional vistas largely uncharted by his contemporaries. Freddy Mas was previously featured on Codek Records and Tigersushi. The Arc EP features 4 new tracks that were entirely written and produced by Freddy Mas. Not sure how to file this music, but it's somewhere within electro-rock-punk-funk-house.

CONTROL CLUB- FACILE LES FILLES 7” (diamond traxx, france)
9.98usd/5.13gbp/6.47eur/1074jpy (approx)

*Fresh new single from these two former members of A.S. Dragon. Wicked twister French '60s pop that might well be one of this summer's surprises.

TENSNAKE- KEEP BELIEVIN' 12” (endless flight, japan)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*Hamburg-based artist Tensnake has released on his own label Mirau and Radius. Many people know about him from his remix work for Junior Boys and Alexander Robotnick. The title track is reminiscent of the sound of Norway disco artists like Lindstrøm. "Congolal" is romantic, pure '80s disco-style and "Tavira" is DFA-style disco house.

PETER VISTI- KODEX 205/TOKYO BY NIGHT 12” (eskimo, belgium)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*Space disco? Or cosmic grooves? Balearic it is!! Peter Visti -- from Music For Dreams and Mindless Boogie fame -- offers up an incredible EP on Eskimo after the wonderful Balearic Love, Paraglide/Berlin and Heaven Is A Disco/Fighting James releases. Both "Kodex 205" and "Tokyo By Night" are two amazing tracks in his own unique style. Some essential stuff for your Balearic ears!

LOW MOTION DISCO- LOVE LOVE LOVE PART 2 12” (eskimo, belgium)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*Here is the second part of two 12" releases featuring remixes of Low Motion Disco's "Love Love Love" by two of the hottest bubbling-up names in the scene; Still Going (DFA) and Soft Rocks (featuring Kathy Diamond).

LOW MOTION DISCO- THINGS ARE GONNA GET EASIER 12” (eskimo, belgium)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*Swiss outfit Low Motion Disco presents "Things Are Gonna Get Easier," a beautiful and delicate track that oozes soulful charm. San Francisco duo Windsurf are Daniel Judd (aka Sorcerer) and Samuel Grawe (aka Hatchback). Their tripped-out version takes us to a deserted beach with bongos and easy grooves under a setting sun. Woolfy's remix utilizes his trademark funky West Coast sound to light up summer dancefloors with a touch of the Balearic.

AEROPLANE FEAT. KATHY DIAMOND- WHISPERS 12” (eskimo, belgium)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*Aeroplane are 2008's next big thing. After two 12"s that created a stir from Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas to Mylo and Laurent Garnier to Danny Howells, here is their next installment, featuring the wonderful Kathy Diamond on vocals. On remix duties are the hottest act of the moment, Hercules & Love Affair, who are receiving high critical acclaim for their debut album on DFA, with their incredible single "Blind." Another terrific package.

EXERCISE ONE VS LEE BURRIDGE- TREAT 'EM MEAN, KEEP 'EM KEEN 12” (exone, germany)
11.98usd/6.15gbp/7.77eur/1290jpy (approx)

*The second release on Exercise One's guerilla sister imprint for Lan Muzic has again come about through dark forces and mysterious circumstances. Originally planned on Lee Burridge's own imprint Almost Anonymous, the menacing threads of global capitalism unraveled with some dodgy dealings too boot, meaning that by the end of last year Europe was a couple of distributors and rather a lot of decent record labels lighter. A swift plan B was needed and now you need not wait a moment longer for this hotly anticipated record. Treat 'Em Mean & Keep 'Em Keen already found its way on Ewan Pearson's fabulous Fabric mix last year and now it has a loving home on Exone. Starting gently, it reaches a ravey crescendo midway before teasing the crowd by flipping between mean and gentle. What dastardly lotharios are these, hell bent on dancefloor destruction... Enjoy!

LUTZENKIRCHEN- MOONLIGHT 12” (flash, germany)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*After the ironic hit single '3 Tage Wach' on Oliver Koletzki's Stil vor Talent imprint, German producer Lützenkrichen is back with some unpretentious mainroom techno on Koletzki's other label Flash Recordings, that he runs together with Florian Meindl. For Flash, Lützenkirchen comes back to his 'normal' sound and delivers three very classy dancefloor burners. First up, there is 'Enter The Moonlight,' an enchanting piece of thumping peak-time business. A big bass, pumping beats and some great oriental sounds combine with far-out effects create a unique atmosphere. Modern styles meet oldskool feelings! 'On The Shore' is even more oldskool than that. The fat and wobbly bass line pushes the track forward and creates the perfect antagonism to the warm effects and clicky minimal beats. The highlight, however, is the wonderfully-written melodic piano piece that turns this track from wicked into wow! Beautiful and tough, oldskool and fresh, slick and funky -- all at the same time. This one is going to be huge. Listen for yourself! At last there is 'Pokemon Companion,' a more direct and solid piece of minimal tech. A drum'n'bass like powerfully grumbling bass, and yet another memorable synth pattern that seems to grow out of the buzzing loop like a spring flower out of wet grass -- natural and wonderful. This EP shows what Lützenkirchen does best -- to produce his unique sound that is destined for the big room.

EYE OF STYLE- STICK/BURLESQUE 12” (front room, germany)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*This is a release from the sultan of Scandinavian house Style of Eye under the guise Eye of Style. Linus is no stranger to the scene as he has released previously on labels like Classic Recordings, Tiny Sticks, Pickadoll and Dirtybird. Having had great success with tracks like 'The Prophet' on John Dahlbäck's Pickadoll label and The Big Kazoo EP on Claude Vonstroke's Dirtybird, he now brings his skills to Front Room Recordings. This single includes two huge house smashes in the form of 'Stick' and 'Burlesque.' The combination of raw percussion, marauding bass and hysteric effects, give both tracks a unique energy that all DJs can utilize as a deadly weapon in their sets. His releases are being played by underground heroes such as Jesse Rose, Sven Väth, Claude VonStroke, Tiga, and Laurent Garnier, M.A.N.D.Y, and many others. Artists such as Jesse Rose, Solid Groove (aka Switch), Deadset, Trevor Loveys and Daniel Steinberg are just some of the artists that have released on Front Room Recordings in the past.

LOPAZZ- WE ARE 12” (get physical, germany)
13.98usd/7.18gbp/9.07eur/1505jpy (approx)

*Lopazz presents We Are, enlisting the remixing powers of Rex The Dog and Einzelkind. Rex works in fat analog bass, crazy acid lines and chopped-up drums for an epic re-working -- joyous, bug-eyed and maximal. Einzelkind makes use of the original vocals, strapping them to a tough, taut, tech-house progression, with ascending synth-hooks that recall '80s electro-pop at its dystopian best. The original is dramatic and propulsive, with emotive synths, a mutant R&B vocal, and electronic blips and bleeps. Unmissable.

JUNIOR BOYS- NO KINDA MAN 12” (get physical, germany)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*restocked… "No Kinda Man" from Junior Boys was first heard on their contribution to Get Physical's Body Language mix series. "No Kinda Man" begins with a stormy low-end rumble broken by a repeated, chiming guitar chord, a spacious, dubby 4x4 rhythm and Jeremy's plaintive, quietly imploring vocal. An added 12-bar blues structure is further proof that Junior Boys' music pays no heed to traditional genre boundaries. Classic, yet utterly contemporary. Jona and Chloé provide remixes.

BOOKA SHADE- PLANETARY/CITY TALES 12” (get physical, germany)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*restocked… Booka Shade return to their roots with a 12" of sheer dancefloor firepower. "Planetary" appears on this 12" in two forms: club and dub. The club mix features low-end tweaks, crowd-hyping drums and a melodic stylophone refrain. The dub mix is a darker, more minimalist affair -- serious, seductive and mind-bending house music. Booka's version of "City Tales" is an uncompromisingly dark but delicate scorcher with a sensuous swing. Booka Shade invites you to chase the night and the neon light.

ITALOBOYZ- ZINGA 12” (get physical, germany)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*restocked… Italoboyz aka Marco Donato and Federico Marton consolidate their position as dancefloor alchemists par excellence with Zinga for Get Physical. The title track is based around a looped violin, a fat kick-drum and razor-sharp hi-hats that make it a peak-time monster. The "DRAMAdub" is soaked in echo and delay, while a wraith-like counterpoint curls around it. "At De Stella" is a bleepy minimalist number with a no-nonsense groove and a voice listing food items. Italoboyz are masters of the unfamiliar.

JONA- MANTA 12” (get physical, germany)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*restocked… Jona is back with Manta -- a sick, expertly crafted new EP. The title track is a peak-time club weapon, with a hard kickdrum, kinetic drum edits and pressurized FX while a dizzying synth motif ravishes the listener into submission. "Amon" is all rolling bass line, acidic synth cycles, crisp percussion, jump-up vocal samples and surging narcotic effects. "Exoplanet Dub" features addictive, zig-zagging melodies guaranteed to turn your dancefloor inside out.

ELEKTROCHEMIE- GET YOURSELF 12” (get physical, germany)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*restocked… Elektrochemie is producer Thomas Schumacher and the bewitching vocal presence of Caitlin Devlin. Get Yourself is Elektrochemie's third offering for Get Physical. "Faking" begins in an opiated fashion, flirting with spaced-out tom sounds before a fierce kick-drum gets the show on the road. "No 19" has a clicky 4x4 pattern and is sexy and non-committal. "Get Yourself" features snapclaps, a liquid bass line and synth builds. "My Home" has tectonic bass frequencies and keyboards dubbed to breaking point. Hypnotizing.

RAZ OHARA & THE ODD ORCHESTRA- KISSES 12” (get physical, germany)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*restocked… Raz Ohara delivers "Kisses" -- a love-worn, electroacoustic lament. Three remixes are provided; two by Philip Bader and one by Pantha Du Prince. Bader takes the subdued mood of the original and raises it to fever pitch. An instrumental mix emphasizes dubby elements and kinetic percussion. Pantha Du Prince re-casts the tune as a piece of elegant, cinematic techno. "Party Is Over," exclusive to this release, is an almost beatless track, highlighting naked vocals and the sounds that cloak it.

WOODY- AUGUST/BOOTY BAR 12” (gigolo, germany)
13.98usd/7.18gbp/9.07eur/1505jpy (approx)

*Although Berlin-based DJ Woody has long been a member of the Gigolo crew, this is Woody's first solo release for Gigolo. Woody is the original sonic funkateer with his own definition of FUNK. Just one listen to "August" and you know how much attention to detail has been poured into the production of these tracks. You'll hear influences of Chicago jack-house, Detroit techno and various electro extracts, as well as minimal changes in the melody which catch every crowd.

FETISCH & ME- DISKOTECKTONIC/BLACK PALMS 12” (gigolo, germany)
13.98usd/7.18gbp/9.07eur/1505jpy (approx)

*Fetisch & Me, the production team behind Terranova and Lotterboys/Lottergirls, are back with another pumping 12". This release is a real treat if you're in the mood for some pumping old-school action. "Diskotecktonik" is a massive tune with a kicking beat and funky bass groove. Fetisch, with the help of his Terranova colleague & Me, takes in all the best from old-school techno, disco and pure Gigolo roots to make two kicking tunes that are bound to rock the house.

CAPITAN COMMODORE- LOVE MACHINE 12” (gigolo, germany)
13.98usd/7.18gbp/9.07eur/1505jpy (approx)

*Capitan Commodore aka Mariusz Socha joins the long and illustrious list of International Deejay Gigolos. His influences run through idols such as Herbie Hancock, Kraftwerk, Björk, Matmos and Mr. Oizo. "Love Machine" is a deep, dark house groove custom-made for the dancefloor, combining the smoothness of a lounge tune with the edge of an old-school track. "Another Lonely Night" draws on the 8-bit sound of micro-music but contains broken beats aplenty. Modern, futuristic and forward-thinking music.

RICHARD BARTZ- MIDNIGHT MAN'S REVENGE 12” (gigolo, germany)
13.98usd/7.18gbp/9.07eur/1505jpy (approx)

*This is Richard Bartz's first solo release on Gigolo since his Midnight Man album in 2005. The single starts with the deep and powerful track "Voyager" and really gets up there with "Minimax 1." "Minimax 2" takes the pace even higher with punchy snare beats and spaced-out effects. Richard draws on many different influences from techno, house, electro and synthcore to hi-NRG, among others.

NIL- COMME UN (PRESQUE) PRINTEMPS 12” (gourmet, france)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*New label and new artist. But well-known family and affiliation. This new label is now signed with Headbanger Publishing/Because Music. Including a Busy P re-edit.

PRESSURE DROP- YOU'RE MINE REMIXES 12” (great stuff, germany)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*This is Volume 5 in Great Stuff's notorious Roots Edition with huge remixes by Kabale Und Liebe from Holland and Kling Klong artist Stephan Hinz. After re-releasing classics by Whirlpool Productions, Nicolette and Rockers Hi-Fi it's up to British DJ and producer legends Dave & Justin aka Pressure Drop now to continue. Their amazing piece of house music was originally released in 1992 featuring the sensitive vocals of Joanna Law and became a massive hit not only in the sets of Kruder & Dorfmeister, Rainer Trüby, Jazzanova and Gilles Peterson. Listening to the original nowadays it's obvious how timeless their production and songwriting was 15 years ago.

ADD NOISE- HANDWERK 3 12” (handwerk, germany)
13.98usd/7.18gbp/9.07eur/1505jpy (approx)

*Tripping, slightly acidic techno cuts w/ droning background soundscapes.

MARK BOOMBASTIK- PUTZEN 12” (i’m single, germany)
11.98usd/6.15gbp/7.77eur/1290jpy (approx)

*Mark Boombastik is a human beatbox since the age of 12. Born and raised in Hamburg, Germany, he now lives in Berlin. He has produced drums with his mouth for freaks such as: Fischmob, Felix Kubin, Angie Reed, Funkstoerung, Patric Catani and is currently the rhythm section for Khan Of Finland on various festivals across the globe. His debut on I'm Single Putzen (German for cleaning) shows that he is all but the usual hip-hop beatbox. Here's a side of his that will establish Mr. Boombastik on all glitter dance floors with remixes by Nerk & Dirk Leyers (Firm/Playhouse) which sound anything but 'clean' and T.Raumschmiere's new dark techno project Shrubbn (Shitkatapult) meaning 'to scrub' in German and we though that was more than appropriate for this challenging 3rd release on I'm Single Records.

SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO- SLEEP DEPRIVATION: SIMON BAKER REMIX 12” (infant, uk)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*Limited edition one-sided clear blue vinyl 12" of the frankly massive remix of the mighty Simian Mobile Disco by Simon Baker. Simian Mobile Disco are currently a huge name on the electronic scene, playing live sets and DJing at some of the largest clubs and festivals around the world. The band asked Simon Baker to supply a remix, and it is another right-on-the-money tech-house excursion. Limited to 1200 copies.

DISCODROMO- COSMORAMA 12” (internasjonal, norway)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*Short about the label: a joint effort between Prins Thomas and Word And Sound -- the idea behind the label is to put out good music and not limiting ourselves to stick with a specific genre, instead opting to stay fresh and individual with each release going in every direction we feel. We're gonna be highlighting new talent, re-releasing some lesser known nuggets and certainly give you some dancefloor killers along the way to. From Japanese techno to California kraut :) just the way we like it... for our 4th release on Internasjonal we bring you Giacomo Garavelloni aka Discodromo. Reminding me both of some '90s lost tribal house record played on a walkman with low batteries or even some of those equal good/weird '90s etno house tracks played by DJs such as Baldelli (yes, do check those late '80s and early '90s tapes to; they're amazing) anyway, I guess I was drawn to this track both because of its chugging quality (that's slow motion dancing for overweight people) and its unwillingness to try and fit in with most of today's new electronic music. Hopefully you'll like it as well. On remix duties you'll find Brennan Green which has spent more than a decade nurturing a sound of his own to. On first listen you might be a bit surprised but give it a second spin and see if you're not bought, just as me. As Carl Craig once said (something along the lines of) 'it's not what you put in but what you take out' I spent some time fooling around with the files to and with the help of a little cheesy drum sample -- voila! -- a third track completing the package now please go and buy this record so we can continue delivering you the good stuff.

LAURENT GARNIER- BACK TO MY ROOTS 12” (innervisons, germany)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*Laurent Garnier delivers his first dancefloor 12" release in five years, Back To My Roots EP, released on Âme and Dixon's Berlin house imprint, Innervisions. This release represents a truly inspirational night that saw Laurent Garnier's welcome return to the club that represents Berlin's electronic music scene to perfection -- Panorama Bar. It's 5a.m., and Garnier, five hours since his set began, is supposed to finish and let Dixon take over. But, the intensity and energy asks him to play on. So he does, for another three hours of magic. 'During that time I played the demo mix of the "Back To My Roots" track, which I'd made that week. Dixon jumped on me to ask what it was. He said that he loved the sound of it and asked me what I wanted to do with it, mentioning that he would really like to release it on Innervisions. I went back home on the Monday and worked straight away on another track, which I named "Panoramix" (a tribute to that night at Panorama). I sent a very rough demo to Dixon via download and received a text five minutes later saying that he wanted it. It happened really fast without me having any plans at all.' - Laurent Garnier. Closely guarded within the Innervisions and Garnier camp, Back To My Roots EP, goes well beyond the hype that it is naturally receiving. An excellent pairing brings one of the most highly revered electronic artists in the world, together with one of the most highly revered house music labels in the world. It works. 'When Laurent played "Back To My Roots" at Panorama, I immediately had the feeling that I was listening to a classic. It's a very unique, timeless production. Not hip, not modern, not old school. It is also a 12 minutes journey that is worth to play for that long. We are very happy that Laurent told me straight away in the club that he would be cool with releasing this EP on our label.'

KLOCKWORKS- KLOCKWORKS 03 12” (klockworks, germany)
13.98usd/7.18gbp/9.07eur/1505jpy (approx)

*Crafty & purified techno/house cuts.

THE RICE TWINS- THE SIGNIFIER 12” (k2, germany)
11.98usd/6.15gbp/7.77eur/1290jpy (approx)

*According to Saussure (1857-1913), a sign is composed of the signifier (significant), and the signified (signifié). These cannot be conceptualized as separate entities but rather as a mapping from significant differences in sound to potential (correct) differential denotation. The Saussurean sign exists only at the level of the synchronic system, in which signs are defined by their relative and hierarchical privileges of co-occurrence. It is thus a common misreading of Saussure to take signifiers to be anything one could speak, and signifieds as things in the world. In fact, the relationship of language to parole (or speech-in-context) is and always has been a theoretical problem for linguistics (cf. Roman Jakobson's famous essay 'Closing Statement: Linguistics and Poetics' et al.). He is also important in emphasizing that the relationship between a sign and the real-world thing it denotes is an arbitrary one. There is not a natural relationship between a word and the object it refers to, nor is there a causal relationship between the inherent properties of the object and the nature of the sign used to denote it. For example, there is nothing about the physical quality of paper that requires denotation by the phonological sequence 'paper.' There is, however, what Saussure called 'relative motivation': the possibilities of signification of a signifier are constrained by the compositionality of elements in the linguistic system (cf. Emile Benveniste's paper on the arbitrariness of the sign in the first volume of his papers on general linguistics). In other words, a word is only available to acquire a new meaning if it is identifiably different from all the other words in the language and it has no existing meaning. Structuralism was later based on this idea that it is only within a given system that one can define the distinction between the levels of system and use, or the semantic 'value' of a sign. That much on the topic of semiotics. The Rice Twin's music talks for itself. Please file under emo-house.

TONI RIOS/PAN/TONE- SPEICHER 60 12” (kompakt, germany)
11.98usd/6.15gbp/7.77eur/1290jpy (approx)

*This is the 60th edition in Kompakt's famous Speicher series. The A-side belongs to Toni Rios, who delivers a nicely sexed-up tech-house tune that reminds of Chicago house, Akufen and Marc Kinchen all at once. Pan/Tone is an old friend of Kompakt's and many liters of spirits have been consumed while contemplating a release on the label. Now that he's moving to Berlin, he leaves behind a cool track appropriately entitled, "Hair Of The Dog”.

GAS- NAH UND FERN 4CD (kompakt, germany)
31.98usd/16.42gbp/20.74eur/3444jpy (approx)

*The Kompakt label presents the work of Wolfgang Voigt's Gas -- a remastered deluxe package that includes all four of his Mille Plateaux albums: Gas (1996), Zauberberg (1997), Königsforst (1998) and Pop (2000). Wolfgang Voigt, in the past known under a great many pseudonyms such as Mike Ink, Studio 1 or Grungerman, is the driving force behind the rise of Cologne minimal techno and also Kompakt's co-founder and co-owner. In the 1980s, Voigt began working under a concept he named BLEI -- extracting elements from classical, polka, brass music, electronic pop and German schlager sounds to form a distinguished and unique pop music style that would fit in with the subculture at that time. In the early 1990s, influenced by techno, Voigt began to experiment with a timbal marching through strongly alienated, free-floating string loops. These elegiac tracks, their lack of beginning and end, their intoxicating, smooth and partly amorphous structure sounded to him like evaporating gas and thus -- Gas was born. Gas is the vision of a sonic body between Schönberg and Kraftwerk, between French horn and bass drum. Gas is Wagner goes glam rock, and Hansel and Gretel on acid. Gas takes you on a seemingly endless march through the woods into the discotheque. Reducing the material to its basic aesthetic structure by using different zoom, loop and alienation techniques, he releases it from its original meaning and context, creating a kind of aesthetic essence, a cave to get lost inside. There are one or two new tracks and versions, but both Voigt and Jörg Burger decided to keep remastering light, maintaining Gas' purity and authenticity. This 4CD box comes in a special and stylish collector's format, including 4 small artwork prints.

GAS- NAH UND FERN 2LP (kompakt, germany)
25.98usd/13.34gbp/16.85eur/2797jpy (approx)

*EXTREMELY LIMITED DOUBLE VINYL EDITION - WITH TRACKS TAKEN FROM THE ZAUBERBERG, KOENIGSFORST AND POP ALBUMS, PLUS AN ADDITIONAL TRACK THAT'S NEVER BEEN RELEASED BEFORE - EXCLSUIVE TO THIS FORMAT* This two-disc retrospective anthologises one of the seminal bodies of work in the recent history of electronic music. Wolfgang Voigt's recordings under the name Gas have gone down in folklore as one of the key ambient/techno/drone touchstones of the nineties, providing the Mille Plateaux imprint with some of its finest ever output, which in certain quarters (namely Boomkat HQ) is regarded as just about as good as it gets. First things first, it should be pointed out that 'Nah Und Fern' collects the four principal Gas albums, electing to miss out 1995's Modern EP and other scraps from short-form releases. This should be regarded as a good decision, because the consequent four-part cycle feels very much like its own, self-contained catalogue. The first of these constituents, the eponymous, debut Gas album somehow sounds more current than ever. You can hear the current generation of Kompakt artists striving for the sounds Voigt mapped out 12 years ago: that thunderous bass pulse destabilises the notion that this is ambient music in any passive sense, instead injecting a sense of pace and motion to a music that's otherwise difficult to interpret in any structural sense - and it's certainly far too richly layered and abstract to be filed under the banner of techno along with some of Voigt's other work. 1997's Zauberberg established the Gas language as we currently know it, based around an effulgent blend of samples, noises, treated recordings and clever filtering all locked in place by that stately bass drum pulse. It was this album that started making explicit links between forest imagery and the thicket of sound Voigt concocted, but as signposted by the surreal colour schemes of the album's original sleeve, this is a dream forest - a psychotropic... tropic, with hints towards nightmarish oppression intimated by the deep, dark dissonances that occasionally reach out from the torrent of sound. The last of these albums, 'Pop' takes this forest imagery to its natural conclusion, rendering an environment so verdant and teeming with life you can literally hear it dripping, in all its gooey fertility. Samples of flowing waters intermingle with dense air currents and synthetic landscapes, resulting in a more vivid picture of Voigt's hyper-real forests than perhaps ever before. Pop is probably Voigt's most accessible album, and the record that can most directly be attributed to establishing ground rules for the famed Kompakt Pop Ambient sound. A special mention should be given to 1999's Konigsforst, however. Of all the Gas releases this has to be the most enduring and resonant. Somewhere within that album's configuration of sounds lies a magical balance between neo-romantic orchestration and the more esoteric, electronic ambient elements Voigt brings to the table - and moreover, the individual tracks making up Konigsforst fit together into a single long-form narrative so beautifully, it represents an undeniably special musical voyage. Compiled together in this ineffably wonderful package, and 'lightly' remastered, the Gas catalogue - slightly abridged as it may be - stands as a singular and totemic body of work within the great canon of ambient music. As essential as essential gets. -boomkat

PITCH & HOLD- TWINS 12” (love triangle music, uk)
13.98usd/7.18gbp/9.07eur/1505jpy (approx)

*'Volta' is an ode to the great Italian physicist Alessandro Volta, after whom the electric volt is named. And it's not hard to see why -- this track literally pulses like a war between electrical appliances. 'Twins' builds an arpeggiated riff into a rich and wonderful soundscape, evoking thoughts of Balearic hedonism & otherworldly exploration! Bringing us back down to Earth, 'Camper' sounds like it was made by Daft Punk circa 1996 -- the rolling bass line and funk-fueled drums setting the scene for an unashamedly fun dancefloor workout.

ERIK & FIEDEL- DONNA 12” (mmm, germany)

MOVE D- DRØNE 12” (modern love, uk)
13.98usd/7.18gbp/9.07eur/1505jpy (approx)

*Move D puts forward the latest limited one-sided 12" on the Modern Love label -- and it's an absolute killer. Based around one long, forever mutating drone, the track comes from David Moufang's hallowed KM20 vaults, the place where he keeps his most devastating vintage analog material. What starts out as a rugged, heaving wheeze of machinery slowly develops into a scattered chug of fearless percussion and frayed engineering of the highest caliber. Strictly limited pressing, and an essential purchase.

ROD LEE- MONEY LOTION #6 12” (money studies, usa)
9.98usd/5.13gbp/6.47eur/1074jpy (approx)

*Money Studies was recently given access to the vault of a true Baltimore club king, and we emerged with our pockets crammed and enough hand-picked gems to form the sixth installment in the Money Lotion series. Rod Lee needs no introduction to fans of the mid-Atlantic sound, but even the most diehard of Orioles will be seeing most of these tracks on wax for the first time. Let's start from the start. 'Kim's Theme' is about as quintessential Lee as they come without having the man's own voice over the top. Rod chops up Lil Kim's famous opening line from the 'Quiet Storm' remix -- 'hot damn ho, here we go again!' -- with sinister piano and stuttering bass riding underneath. This track has been out of print for years, and we're happy to bring you its very first reissue. 'Family' is another classic, a party favorite with cheese to spare as Rod puts the Bmore boots to Sister Sledge's anthem, 'We Are Family.' Rounding out the A-side's big trifecta is 'Mamma Say,' Rod's MJ-sampling track that's been a club staple for years. New track 'Put Your Hands Up' sets off the B-side with wild drum programming techniques and triggered shouting vocals, followed by the classic instrumental 'Sonic Drop,' where the man gets into some Bambaataa business. Mr. Lee closes things out with a bang, curiously repping both 'Cotton Eyed Joe' and all corners of the continental U.S. on the brand new track, 'Where You Come From' -- gotta hear it to understand.

FORCE OF NATURE- III: EUROPEAN EDITION 12” (mule musiq, germany)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*Finally, after Mule Musiq released 4, Force of Nature's third album called III is released worldwide. In Japan, this album was very successful and many press said it is one of the best albums in the left-field scene. Also supported by DJs such as Rub n' Tug, Prins Thomas, to name a few. 'I-Ight' is Moroder-mannered disco house and 'Kontinents' is their typical cosmic style, It sounds like Vangelis or Tangerine Dream.

12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

Luke Solomon's band The Freaks were UK Top 10 with 'The Creeps' in September, as well as having the no 1 video in several territories (including the UK). Luke Solomon is the founder of Classic Recordings, one of the ultimate UK house labels, with Derrick Carter. Highly successful releases on Crosstown Rebels, Cajual, dotbleep, Music For Freaks, Distance and Large, before finding his new home on Rekids. 'Robots' is one of the standout tracks from his album. The remix of 'Spirits' is from Prins Thomas, delivering an organic masterpiece. Massive club, press and radio support. PETER VAN HOESEN- TRUSTED 12” (time to express, belgium)
11.98usd/6.15gbp/7.77eur/1290jpy (approx)

*Time To Express. This is the 6 am feeling of a jackin', bass-heavy warehouse marathon. Strobes flash, your chest is rattling, salty sweat burns your eyes and you yearn for more. The Trusted EP marks the first release on new label Time To Express, founded by Brussels-based producer and DJ Peter Van Hoesen. Peter has previously released on Lan Muzic and Foton and is known to cultivate a healthy obsession for deep, dark, bass-driven techno. Peter's Trusted EP presents intense warehouse grooves fused with a solid 6 am attitude. Both tracks exhume a gritty, dubby feeling combined with a dark dose of funk. 'New Territory's' hypnotic groove slowly builds up towards a pounding bass intervention. 'Trusted' moves steadily forward, propelled by a grinding bass and a spacious, dubbed-out approach. On remix duty we find Norman Nodge, one of Berghain's stalwarts. Norman has an excellent MDR release to his name and his track 'Native Rhythm Electric' is included on Ostgut Ton's new Berghain 02 compilation. His remix of 'Trusted' takes us into deep techno territory, combining a solid backbone with an abstracted touch of highly addictive dub sounds and a wide-open production. This is a bigger-than-life track, calling out to you for playback on a bigger-than-life sound system.

ANDREA PARKER FEAT. DJ ASSAULT & DJ GODFATHER- FREAKY BITCHES REMIXES: FIRST INSTALLMENT 12” (touchin’ bass, uk)
11.98usd/6.15gbp/7.77eur/1290jpy (approx)

*Andrea Parker's 'Freaky Bitches,' a collaboration with Miami bass innovators DJ Assault and DJ Godfather was the first release to launch the label. Now 'Freaky Bitches' gets worked-over from four heavyweights of today's bass scene. Essential electro tune in update with 5/5 review: 'supreme punk-electro (not the other way around) and it's only the first installment.' Miami's Alpha 606 is the first to step up to the challenge with his 'Perrata' remix. Starting off dark and brooding, the electro beats are interwoven with live drum patterns, percussion and old skool synths, before the stripped breakdown showcases his signature Cuban-influenced style, pressing all the right buttons for the dancefloor. Kero is next up to the podium, with a squelching, relentless monster to finish off the A-side. With over 20 releases on established labels like Ghostly, and Shitkatapult, as well as his own Detroit Underground Records, it's no surprise that Kero delivers the goods. We're back in Europe for the B-side with Edinburgh's Weedjs and Irish-born Ed Devane. First the Weedjs 'Touchin' Boobs' remix boasts a massive sub-bass under resonating frequencies with mashed-up beats, true Weedjs style. Then, just when you thought it couldn't get any more twisted, Ed Devane presents his 'Tricked Out' remix. This is electronic experimentation at its finest. Cut up and spliced into a sonic waterfall, this is fantastically unpredictable to the end.

GIORGOS GATZIGRISTOS- PROPER LATIN USAGE 12" (wolf skuil, germany)
12.98usd/6.67gbp/8.42eur/1397jpy (approx)

*Giorgos Gatzigristos, born in 1979, lived in Nijmegen (NL) all his life. As a child he got enthralled by the analog sounds of Vangelis and Jean Michel Jarre, which his father sort of pushed on him. Their sounds and compositions got him interested in the way these artists created their music and the vision they had about music in general. His production career toke off in 2004 when he released his first 12" on Wolfskuil Records. It didn't take long for Giorgos to get noticed by the mighty Kompakt empire, where he released 3 successful singles on their K2 imprint. Several releases & remixes on Manual, Channel Music, etc., later he returns to his roots and delivers one hell of a techno stomper for Wolfskuil. 'Proper Latin Usage' is a deep, dark and twisted electronic masterpiece. The track sounds like a ticking timebomb which doesn't seem to go off, but keeps everyone listening in anxious suspense to the coming events. On the flip is an excellent remix from Mikrowave, label owner and International DJ Gigolo protégé, Kevin Gorman. He turns the original into proper floor-filling & bass-heavy mayhem, in the way only Kevin can. Not for the faint of heart!
