ROCK, POP AND PSYCHEDELIC

THE MOUNTAIN GOATS- HERETIC PRIDE LP (4ad, usa)
17.98usd/10.64gbp/11.36eur/1817jpy (approx)

*The Mountain Goats have recorded several fine albums that have established them as a genuine cult phenomenon and confirmed John Darnielle's status as one of the finest lyricists of his generation. "Heretic Pride" is a suite of songs about mythical creatures, imaginary cults, slasher films, and pulp fiction novelists. Here, Darnielle has also come up with some of the most anthemic, impassioned, and downright catchy songs of his career. -amg

SILVER APPLES- THE GARDEN 2LP (bully, canada)
20.98usd/10.64gbp/13.26eur/2120jpy (approx)

*shop favorite, restocked… After pioneering the use of electronics in rock music and releasing two groundbreaking albums, the Silver Apples were left without a record label after Kapp folded, not to mention a $100,000 lawsuit from PanAm over the 'Contact' sleeve. Thanks to the Record Plant studio in NY, they were allowed to begin recording their third full length in the hopes that another label would pick up the bill. Unfortunately, no labels came through and the tapes were held by the studio as payment for the studio time. Those tapes were thought to be lost until the day Dan Taylor found them in a cardboard box in his attic in 1998. What came out of those sessions were seven completed songs as well as all the original drum tracks to which Simeon added the parts. Also discovered was the master of a song they had written for the soundtrack of an Italian film called The Lady and The Clown which was never released before now. In addition, an alternate version of 'Mad Man Blues' has been added to this release.

SILVER APPLES- SILVER APPLES LP (phoenix, uk)
32.98usd/16.72gbp/20.84eur/3333jpy (approx)

*Previously reissued on cd by phoenix records, now issued on a limited edition deluxe lp format as well; pressed on 180 gram virgin vinyl. This is the first vinyl reissue of the self-titled first album by '60s electronic legends Silver Apples, originally released by Kapp Records in 1968. Fresh off their stint as The Overland Stage Electric Band, Simeon and Dan Taylor formed their own extravagant, two-man electronic space-odyssey, Silver Apples, to remarkable critical acclaim. "What's so amazing is that they make absolutely mind-shattering music with all this junky equipment," commented one reviewer, astounded over the then-mindbending concept of build-it-yourself electronics combined with rock drums. The debut album features lyrics by poet Stanley Warren and is an absolutely essential piece of musical history from electronic/psychedelic/rock music's ground-breaking legends. Housed in a deluxe gatefold foil sleeve containing the insert from the original release in a numbered limited edition of 1,000 copies.

ARCTIC MONKEYS- BRIANSTORM 10” (domino, usa)
8.98usd/4.55gbp/5.67eur/907jpy (approx)

*2007 shop favorite, restocked…

ARCTIC MONKEYS- WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN 12” (domino, usa)
8.98usd/4.55gbp/5.67eur/907jpy (approx)

*2006 shop favorite, restocked…

STARS OF THE LID- AVEC LAUDENUM LP (kranky, usa)
13.98usd/7.09gbp/17.68eur/1413jpy (approx)

*This will be the first vinyl release in the U.S. for this, the fifth SotL album, originally released by Sub Rosa in 1999 and then reissued by Kranky in the fall of 2002. A pivotal album in their career, this marked the first time the duo completely stepped away from the more abstract sound pieces of earlier albums and engaged with the more symphonic and compositional approach that has become the forte of their more recent recordings. There was a limited vinyl pressing done by Sub Rosa at the time of original release, but few copies ever saw the light of day in North America. This will be a one-time pressing only of approximately 1000 copies.

ARCADE FIRE- FUNERAL LP (merge, usa)
16.98usd/8.61gbp/10.73eur/1716jpy (approx)

*vinyl version of this 2005 classic in stock for the first time… An intense spectacle even on record, this ensemble hailing from Montreal is on a mission. Prepare to get caught up in it all! The Arcade Fire bring a theatricality, an intensity, an insanity, and a penchant for amazing hooks to their debut full length release, Funeral. You have never heard such energy, such beauty, and such emotion from such a young band.

INSTRUMENTS OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY- MUSIC FROM THE FILMS OF R/SWIFT LP (secretly canadian, usa)
15.98usd/8.10gbp/10.10eur/1615jpy (approx)

*For the critical listener, Instruments of Science & Technology sounds like Brian Eno and Wendy Carlos had a love child in the '70s and subsequently marooned him/her/it on an Oort Cloud. If they had, this might have been the recording their love child beamed back to Earth. This largely instrumental electronic project may seem out of character for Richard Swift, who has raised eyebrows and turned heads over the past few years for his unmistakably beautiful singing voice, melancholic lyrics and sophisticated songwriting. Taking into account all three releases, it appears that Swift considers the last 80 years of recorded music as his own personal spice rack of musical texture from which to draw and concoct new musical recipes. With Instruments of Science & Technology, Swift has resurrected the earliest forms of electronic music, thrown in a few dashes of dub, hip-hop, kraut-rock, and Motown, and created a new hybrid dish. So fire up the hooka coals, turn on that full screen iTunes visualizer, and pump these jams as loud as your speakers/neighbors will allow.

V/A- ALPHABEAT: POP, PSYCH & PROG ROCK 1967-1970 LP (top sounds, uk)
27.98usd/14.18gbp/8.83eur/2828jpy (approx)

*shop favorite, restocked… lp version, Contains an 12-page lavishly illustrated magazine-style booklet, and housed in authentic '60s fashion with a laminated sleeve. Compiled and realized by Nigel Lees (author of much of Record Collector magazine's long running series 'The British Psychedelic Trip'), Alphabeat marks the debut release on his own label Top Sounds, a collection which brings together 13 rare slices of pop, psychedelia and progressive rock recorded during 1967-1970. Only 2 have appeared previously on compilations, the remainder bar the obscure 1970 45 by Mississippi have never been released and make their vinyl and CD debut on Alphabeat. All tracks have been professionally restored and the release includes an informative and profusely illustrated 24-page booklet which features histories of all the artists, together with many photos which have never been published before. The release has the blessing of at least one member of each group and in some cases several. Many of the selections on Alphabeat were not even known to exist before the release of the compilation, and few connoisseurs of obscure late '60s pop, psych and prog will be disappointed with its contents. Dubbed from a master supplied by a Belgian television company, 'Foxy Lady' and 'Toad' were recorded live at a pop festival in 1968 and prove The Barrier to be as exciting on stage as on their best singles from the same year, while Mississippi impress with their heavy bluesy rock which is lifted from their lone and very rare 45 from 1970. The pigeonholing of Breakthru as a lightweight pop act through their only single 'Ice Cream Tree' is devastatingly dismissed by the unveiling of 2 incendiary slices of psychedelically-inclined rock recorded at a Birmingham studio in late 1967, and an unknown group who recorded at R.G Jones' OAK studios sound uncannily like The Game 3 years on with the slow burning 'First Back From Heaven.' The Pathfinders' 'Pumpkin Lantern' has appeared before on compilations on a number of occasions, but thanks to the discovery of another acetate copy, it's presented here in premium quality together for the first time with its previously ignored but very special rendering of the Bee Gees' 'To Love Somebody.' Graded Grains have presented psych collectors with a mystery and an enigma since their acetate of 'Animal Magic' and ' Lucifer Sam' was unearthed for Chocolate Soup For Diabetics Volume 3 way back in the early '80s, and such was their dogged obscurity that some came to believe there was no such band called Graded Grains at all. Top Sounds however, are able to present 4 tracks recorded on the continent in Paris in 1969 which beautifully exhibit authentic pop psych with a marked Barrett-era Pink Floyd influence, one of which is a later (and much cleaner!) take of the famed 'Animal Magic.' And last but by no means least, the legendary blues band Black Cat Bones prove their versatility and deliver an uptempo psych-flavored rocker called 'Warmth Of The Day,' which aside from inclusion on a fairly recent bootleg has only previously been available on the rare 1969 promotional for the QE2 ocean liner.

GLI ALLUMINOGENI- SCOLOPENDRA LP (vinyl magic, itay)
34.98usd/17.73gbp/22.10eur/3535jpy (approx)

*A trio from Turin, formed in 1970 by keyboard player Alluminio (hence the name of the band) and drummer Ostorero with various guitarists, they only lasted for a couple of years and their only album, Scolopendra, was issued when they had already split. Their sole album is very well made, mainly based on Hammond organ and other keyboards, with good instrumental parts and an outstanding B-side. A must-have for lovers of Italian prog! New vinyl reissue with the original artwork, label replicas and remastered sound.

SAMADHI- SAMADHI LP (vinyl magic, itay)
34.98usd/17.73gbp/22.10eur/3535jpy (approx)

*A sort of supergroup, as most of their members came from well-known bands, Samadhi were formed after the split of Raccomandata con Ricevuta di Ritorno by singer Regoli and guitarist Civitenga, along with keyboard player Sabatini (from Free Love and Kaleidon), Aldo Bellanova from Teoremi on bass and drummer Ruggero Stefani (L'Uovo di Colombo), and two other members. The album, from 1974 and their only record released, mixes very good prog influences with some jazz and even pop, the best of the seven tracks being the closing L'ultima Spiaggia with religious text. The beautiful lyrics were written by poet Enrico Lazzareschi. New vinyl reissue with the original artwork, label replicas and remastered sound.

PANGEA- INVASORI LP (vinyl magic, itay)
32.98usd/16.72gbp/20.84eur/3333jpy (approx)

*restocked… Most prog collectors never even heard of this monster rarity before it was featured in one of Hans Pokora's Record Collector Dreams books. This was out on Philips in 1976 but only in promotional form and without a cover, and arrived by the time the interest of big labels in progressive music was going down, so it never reached stores -- becoming real nightmare for die-hard collectors. This is a conceptual album with 10 tracks put together into two long suites, with some long instrumental and much elaborated parts, and with Italian lyrics. It's spacey progressive music with some pop hints, too. All tracks were written by Mauro Paoluzzi, well-known session man and producer who also wrote some songs for Madrugada; in fact, also two members of this group helped in the recording of the Pangea album as well. Well, so here it is -- for the first time ever, the real Pangea Invasori LP out for sale. Comes in a gatefold cover, obviously new artwork as it was blank originally, great sound and limited to 500 copies.

METAMORFOSI- ...E FU IL SESTO GIORNO LP (vinyl magic, itay)
34.98usd/17.73gbp/22.10eur/3535jpy (approx)

*restocked… Well known Italian prog band Metamorfosi were based in Rome, and they released their debut via the Vedette label in 1972, just one year prior to their highly acclaimed masterpiece, Inferno. ...E Fu Il Sesto Giorno has most of the elements of Inferno already there, with the peculiar voice of Jimmy Spitaleri, the strong rhythm section and the classical influenced keys, but you can also note some slight late '60s influences here. Very rare in original format, this is the first vinyl reissue ever and comes with great remastered sound, replica of the original gatefold cover and label, and limited to 500 copies.

E.A. POE- GENERAZIONI: STORIA DI SEMPRE LP (vinyl magic, itay)
34.98usd/17.73gbp/22.10eur/3535jpy (approx)

*restocked… Yes, this was reissued on vinyl not a long time ago... but it's already been deleted for a while, and being one of the key Italo prog albums, why not make it available again. Originally released in 1974 and one of the major Italian rarities, this album is a real killer. It has all your favorite ingredients for the best Italian prog music; classically inspired keyboards, good guitar work and powerful rhythm section. Great reissue with the original (single) cover, labels replicas and 180 gram vinyl.

PROCESSION- FRONTIERA LP (vinyl magic, itay)
32.98usd/16.72gbp/20.84eur/3333jpy (approx)

*restocked… Very rare debut album by Procession, originally on RCA's subsidiary Help in 1972. This platter is a clear example of what we would describe as hard prog. It's a great album, with a line-up featuring two guitars, bass and drums, playing very good hard rock with some progressive influence and some acoustic passages as well. A very welcome reissue, in a gatefold cover and with the usual top quality of all Vinyl Magic vinyl reissues. Limited to 500 copies.

QUELLA VECCHIA LOCANDA- QUELLA VECCHIA LOCANDA LP (vinyl magic, itay)
32.98usd/16.72gbp/20.84eur/3333jpy (approx)

*restocked… Debut album by one of the most legendary names of the Italian progressive rock scene. From 1972, released on the RCA subsidiary Help and with original copies going for quite some money. An absolute classic in the progressive field, this features both hard rock and classical influences, with some very Jethro Tull like flute playing, great guitar and also a violin played by North American Donald Lax. This is a strictly limited reissue of 500 copies in 180 gram vinyl, remastered sound, nice carton gatefold cover and a replica of the original labels.

ALUSA FALLAX- INTORNO ALLA MIA CATTIVA EDUCAZIONE LP (vinyl magic, itay)
32.98usd/16.72gbp/20.84eur/3333jpy (approx)

*restocked… Alusa Fallax were born in Milano in 1969, and they released a couple of 45s soon after. But it wasn't until 1974 that they released their first and only longplay. Released on the Fonit label with 5000 copies pressed, this is today a very sought after collector's item in its original format. The album is a magical piece of the best Italian progressive music. Melodic, with leading keyboards, classical influences and two long suites (one per side) that can be conventional when speaking of Italian prog, and occasionally experimental, too. This is a strictly limited reissue of 500 copies in 180 gram vinyl, remastered sound, nice carton gatefold cover and a replica of the original labels.

GARYBALDI- ASTROLABIO LP (vinyl magic, itay)
32.98usd/16.72gbp/20.84eur/3333jpy (approx)

*restocked… After the Nuda masterpiece, you couldn't believe the guys went higher. The next year in 1973 they released their second and last, Astrolabio, another excellent album but not such a top record as the debut was. The album consists of 2 long tracks with a lot of improvisation giving guitarist Bambi Fossati a perfect field to give good faith of his high level playing. There is good keyboard work here too, courtesy of Lio Marchi who was actually not in the group but only for the recording sessions. These two tracks were also released in single format, obviously quite shortened. Also quite rare in its original form, Astrolabio was released in a gatefold cover, which is now exactly reproduced in this limited reissue of 500 copies that we strongly recommend you to give a space in your collection.

AVANT GARDE AND NOISE

ARTHUR LIPSETT- SOUNDTRACKS LP (global a, germany)
18.98usd/9.62gbp/11.99eur/1918jpy (approx)

*shop favorite, restocked… Arthur Lipsett made an impressive series of collage films during his lifetime. He began his collages under the employment of the National Film Board of Canada. During a sound workshop, he was given the assignment to tell a story by editing together found sound materials. Lipsett took the assignment further by editing images to the sound collage he created. The result was to become Very Nice Very Nice, sharing his view of the phantasmagoria of a world he saw around him. This first effort earned him an Academy Award nomination at the age of 25. Soundtracks is a document that celebrates the work of Arthur Lipsett, while highlighting his sound collage as an art form in itself. The National Film Board of Canada granted the license to create this sound document from the original film masters. These originals were lovingly re-mastered and pressed to high quality vinyl that they will last into the future. Mostly from the 1960s, emerging from the Beats, his films are dense cut-ups to do with themes like science and spirituality, religious mania and Cold War paranoia, Apocalypse and nuclear melt-down, consumerism and nothingness, rituals and machines, all that good stuff. The films started out as the sound collages finely presented here in a top-notch pressing -- tightly compacted clips of spoken word (Marshall MacLuhan, religious loons, newsreel announcers, TV scientists, bullshit politicians), in with noise (factories, helicopters, bombs) and music (jazz, gospel, parade-ground, church) -- sometimes manipulated, often highly rhythmic, still so captivating and chilling.

WHITEHOUSE- TOTAL SEX 2LP (very friendly/susan lawly, uk)
32.98usd/16.72gbp/20.84eur/3333jpy (approx)

*Hard to believe the equally extraordinary second album from Whitehouse was recorded back in 1980 -- a development and expansion of the pioneering electronic techniques which were demonstrated on the debut Birthdeath Experience; also included on this double vinyl set are the 2 rare songs from United Dairies' Hoisting The Black Flag compilation.

FOLK, BLUES AND ROOTS

SNEAKY PETE KLEINOW- THE SHILOH RECORDS ANTHOLOGY CD (sundazed, usa)
19.98usd/10.13gbp/12.63eur/2019jpy (approx)

*Sneaky Pete Kleinow was best known as a mind-altering pedal steel guitarist, and an integral part of the sound of Gram Parsons'original Flying Burrito Bros. Every rock fan worth his salt knows Sneaky as the brilliant steel player zigzagging his way across The Gilded Palace Of Sin, the Burritos' stunning 1969 debut, and as the band member on the album cover decked out in an all-black nudie suit with a golden pterodactyl on the chest, where Superman's red 'S' would have been. And that was Sneaky to a T: super-hero steel guitarist to no less than: The Rolling Stones, Booker T. & the MG's, Joni Mitchell, Graham Nash, Doug Sahm, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Randy Newman, Little Richard, Frank Zappa, Leonard Cohen and John Lennon -- among countless others. Here's a brilliant taste of the pedal steel guitar genius of Sneaky Pete Kleinow. Long may he wave.

WANDA JACKSON- LIVE AT TOWN HALL PARTY 1958 10" (sundazed, usa)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.20eur/1312jpy (approx)

*Just turned 21 and beautiful beyond words, Wanda Jackson ripped through a red-hot, live Town Hall Party rockabilly session in 1958 that helped define the parameters of this raw, young music. Discovered singing on an Oklahoma radio station only two years earlier by honky-tonk recording star, Hank Thompson and encouraged to cut loose musically by genre superstar/touring partner (and one-time boyfriend) Elvis Presley, Jackson was a perfect fit for Town Hall Party, the Los Angeles-based TV show that had already welcomed sets by rockin' luminaries Gene Vincent, Carl Perkins and Eddie Cochran. Backed by old friend and 'King of the Strings' guitarist Joe Maphis, Jackson was in her element for the Town Hall Party session, tearing into 'Mean, Mean Man,' a career-defining tune she'd recorded only a few months earlier. Highlights of Jackson's set also include 'Rock Your Baby,' her current Capitol Records single, and 'Alone (With You),' a Faron Young chart-topper, as well as her show-stopping finale, Jackson roaring through 'Hard Headed Woman,' a scorcher from Elvis' current movie, King Creole. Jackson would soon become a substantial force on the country music charts, specializing in aching, honky-tonk ballads for the rest of her career. Still touring today to rabid fan reaction, Jackson has never forgotten her red-hot rockabilly roots. And no live session ever caught Wanda Jackson as wild and rocking as she was on Town Hall Party in 1958, now available on Sundazed's high-definition, 10" vinyl.

GLOBAL

WAREIKA HILL SOUNDS- PROVERBS OF PROVERBS 7" (honest jon’s, uk)
9.98usd/5.06gbp/6.31eur/1008jpy (approx)

*Unexpectedly uplifting, shuffling, percussive rug-cutter, with the Light Of Saba veteran bringing a little go-go to the grounation, and a lovely dub mixed by Moritz von Oswald!!!

ORCHESTRE REGIONAL DE KAYES- ORCHESTRE REGIONAL DE KAYES LP (mississippi, usa)
14.98usd/7.59gbp/9.47eur/1514jpy (approx)

*Kayes is situated on the Bamako-Dakar railway line in northwestern Mali, just near the Senegalese border. The town is the regional capital, part of Mali's eight administrative areas. Mali's cultural policy stipulated that a local orchestra represent each region, and that the orchestras would compete at the national arts festivals. After the coup of 1968, these contests were held bi-annually and were known as the Biennales. At the arts festivals, the Regional Orchestra of Kayes would compete against the other orchestras from Ségou, Tombouctou, Sikasso, Mopti, Gao, Koulikoro and Bamako for the championship prize. This reissue represents the orchestra's only recording -- originally released on the Bärenreiter-Musicaphon series. This recording represents some of the finest modern music to have been recorded in Africa. The Kayes orchestra were particularly outstanding, with arresting, searing guitar solos, and an incredibly tight band modernizing African folk tales into beautiful pop music.

SOULPHICTION- THE CHOCOLETTES ONE 12” (musik krause ltd, germany)
13.98usd/7.09gbp/17.68eur/1413jpy (approx)

*Three killa rhythm-isms from Soulphiction, full of nutritional value and whole grain groove. This is music for emotional dancefloors. "Maoamba" is a wonderful Afro-jazz dervish, pure magical madness for the moments when everything simmers and spins. "Rise" is a deep, jazz-filled slider that creeps under the skin. "Jungle AD" features careening and rolling bass swells. A clear declaration that states: "music without bass is stupid!

REGGAE AND DANCEHALL

SURRA- HYPE UP 12” (amalgama, uk)
9.98usd/5.06gbp/6.31eur/1008jpy (approx)

*The Hype Up e.p. is a glance into the many sensibilities of uk beat futurist Surra, he delivers an explosive release that covers a wide spectrum of his signature sound. Surra’s dub bleeps, modulating synths and smooth drum programming is sure to turn heads worldwide with its universal feel. The title tune is a ragga inspired bruk anthem featuring Ms. Lickle Bit on vocals that also gets a bass fueled remix from Dutch producer Dogdaze (Dogdaze). Behind the Shadows and the already famous colaboration with Ayro (aka Jeremy Ellis) ..Lightspeed.. are journeys into sound and space that will capture your every sense. To finish off is Distractions, a headnodding downtempo excursion that will surely cement Surra's a position as the innovator that he truly is. The art direction of this release was done by one of PR's finest designers Shaggdeluxe.

MUNGO'S HI-FI- MARY JANE/ING/HERBALIST/DID YOU KNOW? 10” (scotch bonnet, uk)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.20eur/1312jpy (approx)

*Blending '80s digital reggae with modern production techniques, and featuring the best of the old skool and nu skool DJs and singjays. Each track is exclusively mixed in Mungo's studio to give it a unique feel and perfect punch -- ideal for getting dibbi dibbi sounds on the run! El Fata hails from the Ivory Coast but is now residing in the UK -- though he is always busy touring and recording with the likes of Mad Professor. He sings the title track, 'Mary Jane,' with a plea to the government to 'leave Mary Jane alone.' Brother Culture is up next, and should be no stranger to the Mungo camp, having collaborated on the 2002 album, Mungo's Hi Fi meets Brother Culture, as well as working with a barrage of top producers and appearing on Mr Scruff's Keep it Solid Steel mix CD. Top Cat and Soom T finish things up in true fine form to make this one hell of a 10".

DISRUPT FEAT. MIKEY MURKA- EMPRESS/SECOND HAND MAN 10” (scotch bonnet, uk)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.20eur/1312jpy (approx)

*Disrupt's cuts 'Empress' and 'Second Hand' are modern classics an have the perfect blend of quality reggae music and Disrupt's unmistakable blip-beep sound. Both tracks have an upbeat offbeat swing with a sound that interweaves around Mikey's vocal with his plethora of sound. The lead synth on the 'Second Hand' dub is also testament to his playing ability and instantly conjures up the same images of cowboys and the Wild West felt in '80s Jamaica along with a heavy dub sound. These are destined to be on heavy rotation not only on soundsytems but also by any purveyor of good quality music. Big tings a gwaan fi Disrupt 2008, there's no doubt about it, stay tuned! Modern day dub master!

ROOTAH FEAT. MIKEY MURKA- GET IT ALREADY/SHE GONE 10” (scotch bonnet, uk)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.20eur/1312jpy (approx)

*The other half of Jahtari steps up with a blisteringly authentic digital sound again, pumped out with analog gear. Rootah's production sounds like a cross between Basic Channel and the most delightfully obscure '80s dancehall and this is what forms the crux of his sound-his Detroit techno background coupled with his deep understanding of true dub. Rootah has been DJing since the early '90s and in this time has been perfecting his production with the nicest blend of computah programming and rough overheated analog tubes and delay units. 'Get It Already' and 'She's Gone' have a slightly darker, more melancholy sound like Waterhouse has just turned Firehouse. This makes the two tracks perfectly match in a ying yang sort of way. Rootah's productions have such a detailed, heavy sound they will both destroy a soundsystem and demand a detailed hi-fi listen. The 'She's Gone Dub' provides a whole new drum pattern which gives the track a completely different flavor, completing the pack.

DUBSTEP AND GRIME

KODE9 & THE SPACEAPE- KONFUSION 12” (hyperdub, uk)
11.98usd/6.07gbp/7.57eur/1210jpy (approx)

*Kode9 & The Spaceape return with their first fresh collaboration since 2006. The dub instrumental of "Konfusion" is a breezy, almost horizontally-reclined groove that drops like a ton of gold bricks wrapped in silk. This version was recently vocalized by a chorus of cloned Spaceapes via a glitching, interstellar walkie-talkie. A warm draft from a summer to come, and frothy -- like Cresta lemonade (ask your dad).

HOUSE, TECHNO AND DISCO

HECKMANN- LAS VEGAS/NEON GRAVE 12” (acid fuckers unite, germany)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.20eur/1312jpy (approx)

*With big support from Richie Hawtin/Ricardo Villalobos/Tobi Neumann/Onur Özer/Monika Kruse/Gergor Tresher/Karotte. Though the last Heckmann 'Silverscreen' is still rotating on the decks of the planet and in the cases of the great entertainers, he strikes again with his brand new series called 'Las Vegas!' It will be a story of three 12"s that will lead to a complete CD album with extra tracks to complete the whole. The main track 'Las Vegas' is rushing in like a storm and is rocking as if there was no tomorrow. Fat beats, fat bassline and countless little far out effects, that will tickle your synapses big time. The second track 'Neon Grave' takes the story further and will lift even the last man on Earth with its electro-Latino feel, illuminating bassline and the Heckmann style effect-arrays!

11.98usd/6.07gbp/7.57eur/1210jpy (approx)

*Audiomatique presents four remixes of Trentemøller's "Miss You." The original shows off Trentemøller's unique composition skills, and for this release, he presents a cut up re-rub full of classic texture and warmth. Pole provides bass-heavy dubsteps in a tripped-out abstraction of the original theme. Pascal F.E.O.S. remains true to the musicality of the original with his drifting techno slow-burner. Finally, Lulu Rouge and Asger Baden take the stirring beauty of the original's piano melody and create a filmic, beatless interpretation.

12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.20eur/1312jpy (approx)

*Only a few more weeks before Berlin's nuttiest restaurant/afterhour hang-out will open its doors for another season of nonstop craziness and time defying party-stunts. Time to unleash the second EP on Bar 25's very own record label. And with Matt John, Audio Werner and Phage & Daniel Dreier they managed to recruit four rising stars of Berlin's minimal scene. All regulars at 'The Ranch' (Bar 25's nickname), they deliver standout tracks. And from Matt John's epic twelve minute ride through eerie vocal samples and shining pads to Phage & Daniel Dreier's deep tripping minimal-mover and Audio Werner's dry and housy funkiness all memories from last year come floating back. The season starts here.

BOYS NOIZE- OI OI OI REMIXED 12” (boyz noize, germany)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.20eur/1312jpy (approx)

*After the internationally successful album release in September 2007, 'Oi Oi Oi Remixed' features a fine selection of re-works of Boys Noize's banging debut album tracks -- by his friends and himself." Tracklisting: A1. & Down(Siriusmo vs. Boys Noize Remix) , A2. Let's Buy Happiness (Proxy Remix), B1. Oh! (A-Trak Remix) , B2. Don't Believe The Hype (Housemeister Remix).

SMASH TV- LOCOMOTIVE BREATH 12” (bpitch control, germany)
11.98usd/6.07gbp/7.57eur/1210jpy (approx)

*Holger Zilske isn't a dark horse in the scene of electronic music. Instead, under his pseudonym Smash TV, he always instigates the masses around the globe with his ecstatic, technoid live-sets. Well-known artists such as Steve Bug, Richie Hawtin or Claude Von Stroke play his releases for inspiring their exalted audiences for a long time. As a BPitch Control artist from the very beginning, this very busy and extremely creative exceptional producer is now presenting his latest work with the catalogue number BPC170. After numerous remixes for Ellen Allien, Audion, Golden Boy, Miss Kittin, Dirt Crew, Mediengruppe Telekommander and many more, an update on Berlin-based label BPitch Control has been overdue. Already the title 'Breath' is able to express EVERYTHING: this sophisticated record really breathes and will not only be able to fascinate the audience per definition, rather this release will push the crowd onto the dance floor immediately. Both songs consist of minimal, but nevertheless striking means, which are able to mediate the underlying clear structure. The A-side, 'Locomotive Breath' has become a forceful track that starts with elaborate percussion and kicks asses with the specially modulated bass after the break. This track is pure Prime Time material and is described as 'Perfect Chow' by several DJs. Subsequent 'Breath Me' on the flip side, gives us the creeps. The accords create an enthralling harmony, which finds its climax within an apocalyptical break.

PAUL KALKBRENNER- BINGO BONGO 12” (bpitch control, germany)
11.98usd/6.07gbp/7.57eur/1210jpy (approx)

*Paul Kalkbrenner presents two killer tracks for BPitch: "Bingo Bongo" and "Schwere Ware." The title track moves non-stop. Bundled with a minimalistic, hypnotic groove, the dancer is literally grabbed by the scruff of his neck and given a good shaking. "Schwere Ware" ("Heavy Ware") is a phat stomper and pure Kalkbrenner. There's nothing more to say.

ANTISLASH- WE ARE THE COPY AND PASTE 12” (circus company, france)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.20eur/1312jpy (approx)

*Paris-based trio Antislash release their third 12" on Circus Company, and is perfectly representative of their sound, and a blender full of influence. You'll find minimal funk house on "Grillepain," with a beautiful long and deep break. On A2, there's some more freaky, rolling groove with "And Dance For You." On the B-side, comes "Croc," the more nervous of the tracks. Finishing out, "Cockpit" is a beautiful moment of deepness, with a Farben flair.

DJ DEEON & DJ SLUGO- GHETTO CLASSICS VOL.1 12” (dance mania, usa)
9.98usd/5.06gbp/6.31eur/1008jpy (approx)

*restocked… From the very beginning in 1985 Chicago's Dance Mania records was konown for raw percussive tracks from the dirty side of disco and house. They laid down over 200 12''s that were the blueprint for what is now known as ''ghetto-house'' or ''booty-house''. we are happy to announce the launch of the revitalized Dance Mania with 5 slammin classics from Deeon & Slugo: ''Work This MF'', ''Rubber Track'', ''That's It'', ''Vulture Life Ins'', & ''Sprint''. Bootylicious!

DJ DEEON & DJ SLUGO- GHETTO CLASSICS VOL.2 12” (dance mania, usa)
9.98usd/5.06gbp/6.31eur/1008jpy (approx)

LCD SOUNDSYSTEM- LOSING MY EDGE 12” (dfa, usa)
8.98usd/4.55gbp/5.67eur/907jpy (approx)

*restocked… Somewhere between Peaches and Metro Area, classic and essential stuff for sure.

LCD SOUNDSYSTEM- TRIBULATIONS 12” (dfa, usa)
8.98usd/4.55gbp/5.67eur/907jpy (approx)

*restocked… first there was 'Losing My Edge,' then 'Give It Up,' and now James Murphy brings us 'Tribulations,' featuring remixes by both Tiga and Lindstrom along with the original and 'Shallow Version' that was recorded for a BBC Zane Lowe Radio 1 session in late 2004. Already a live highlight and the track everyone already seems to DJ out the most anyway, let's just say DFA has saved the catchiest most crowd-pleasing single for last. And now onto making more new music!

V/A- YOU ARE MY MATE 2X12" (dial, germany)
19.98usd/10.13gbp/12.63eur/2019jpy (approx)

*Dial celebrates their 40th release with a double 12" for the dancefloor and beyond. Hiding from conventions, destroying innovation, this EP puts together what belongs together. Carsten Jost comes together with My My's Carsten Klemann to build a Detroit-by-way-of-Berlin future classic, Sten digs a little deeper with "Fortune," then there is the astonishing solo debut of Oliver Kargl aka Rndm, one-half of Pigon, Pantha Du Prince, and Phanthom Ghost.

SNOW PATROL- SHUT YOUR EYES 12” (endless flight, japan)
11.98usd/6.07gbp/7.57eur/1210jpy (approx)

*Snow Patrol's album Eyes Open -2006- was a collection of songs that showed the work of a band who had scaled the heights supporting U2 through Europe, appearing at Live 8 in both Hyde Park and Scotland, and somehow sticking to their core values: beautiful, powerful songs underscored by some of the most poignant and telling lyrics in rock. Presenting a heartfelt remix of "Shut Your Eyes" by Naum Gabo.

ALEXI DELANO & TONY ROHR- SOUR IMPRESSIONS 12” (frankie, germany)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.20eur/1312jpy (approx)

*The well known producers Alexi Delano (Rompe, Plus 8) & Tony Rohr (Clink) teamed up for our pleasure and produce here in their Sour Impressions EP. Two outstanding pieces of funky minimal techno. A1 'Discoteca Butt' is an exciting bunch of quirky sounds and raw synth with an unpredictable way -- crazy and quite efficient on the floor with no doubt a masterpiece! On the flip B1 'Mind of Its Own' combines heavy distorted raw synth loud kick sub bassline plenty of subtle bleepy sounds darky and weird -- great unpredictable atmosphere. No more to say than Sour Impressions is absolute must! Pressed on white vinyl.

RAMIREZ- HABLANDO: RADIO SLAVE REMIXES 12” (hell yeah, germany)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.20eur/1312jpy (approx)

*You know, the early '90s revival is in the air... there's no need to let you know how much 'Hablando' by Ramirez has been influential in the good old days, the accordion, the bass drum, the Spanish trippy vocals: a timeless techno classic! Matt Edwards aka Radio Slave is another sure candidate for house music's Hall of Fame. He was so excited about lending his edit/remix trickery to 'Hablando' that he delivered two astonishing mixes (now featured in this exclusive 12" release) and put them at #1 of his chart. Respect! Already included in Jerome Sydenham forthcoming mix CD and new Global Underground GU comp and supported by all the usual suspects.

V/A- ULTRAWAVE VOL.2 12” (hot vitamin, uk)
11.98usd/6.07gbp/7.57eur/1210jpy (approx)

*volume 2 of ultrawave featuring Future State's "Future State", italo disco with a bit of a proto-techno feel from '84 produced by Celso Valli! Also included is Cosmic classic Tim Toum by Codek and the insane vocoder rocker by Airto!

H-TRACK- H-TRACK EDITS 1 12” (h-track, uk)
11.98usd/6.07gbp/7.57eur/1210jpy (approx)

*three exclusive re-edits from californian dj hugh herrera, aka h-track, includes edits of early 80's disco stormers the quick 'zulu' and punkin machine 'i need you tonight' plus soft cell's 'where the heart is'.

KAITO- ALIVE/EVERLASTING DUB 12” (kompakt, germany)
11.98usd/6.07gbp/7.57eur/1210jpy (approx)

*Japan's undisputed master of soulful opulence is back with a smash. Purists might be glad to hear that Kaito stripped down his sound quite a bit. "Alive" and "Everlasting Dub" definitely show Hiroshi Watanabe's skills, with a daring mixture of classic dub techno, soulful deep house, jazzy improvisations and a big thumping beat. This release emanates dignity, gentleness and humbleness -- three attributes you rarely find on a techno floor.

MC GRINGO FEAT. MC BINHO- 1 REAL: THE STEREO MCS REMIXES 12” (man, germany)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.20eur/1312jpy (approx)

*Following the success of Gringão, the Rio-based German MC releases a boombastic new EP. London's Stereo MCs, undoubtedly the UK's most successful rap group of all time, are dedicated fans of MC Gringo's music and rhymes. Their remixes strip the original of its salsa-berimbau flavor and adds hip-shaking percussion and dubby chords. Their "Hypadub" remix rolls out Brazilian samba beats to the max. Think of Pressure Drop's timeless '90s club classic "Unify" and you get the point.

AFRICAN SUITE- AFRICAN SUITE LP (mca, eu)
19.98usd/10.13gbp/12.63eur/2019jpy (approx)

*Underground disco at its best! Richie Rome, after the great success with Ritchie Family, had the possibility to release his creativity realizing this afro disco album. "Grass" keeps some peculiar sounds of the previous Rome records (Latin and oriental influences), "Pigmy" was a hit in the clubs with the right attitude, but you have to listen to the non-stop side B... a fantastic afro trip which hits your stomach thanks to the percussion arrangements and the sensual vocals Tom Hill and Brenda Hill.

OLENE KADAR- VAKBEKWAAM 12” (mo’s ferry, germany)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.20eur/1312jpy (approx)

*Olene Kadar. Well, sounds like the occident. But that's the completely wrong track. Behind this moniker you'll find a young man by the real name of Henk van Zwol and he's from Holland, more precisely from Friesland. All but far away from the big city club socialization a wondrous but fascinating character grew up that just started to spread out. It would be a shame to just leave him to the machinery of the club music business today. But first of all, the most important thing, his music: Olene Kadar's A-side track 'Button' is most clearly described by one word: excess! Because that's the result when you are dancing on the floor smoothly and unagitated and then this insane, frantic modulation of sounds is erupting. Sure, there's a need for a proper loudness and an extended low end (a little more than usual) is helping a lot to intensify this moment. What DJs build up over a set of two to three hours, 'Button' offers the peak in barely eight minutes. The B-side starts with the title track 'Vakbekwaam.' Straight pumping bass, numerous crazy circulating percussion elements combined with a manic vocal sample disconnected from reality. Hypnotic, almost like the singings of shamans, that's what it's like when Olene Kadar constantly changes the mix of all inherent elements. The last track 'Honderd Dollar Bill' brings back the rave signal again. This time it is surrounded by a more quiet rhythmic pattern. The track is intended to be a point of rest, but no break -- because it lasts for just a moment, until the next A-side is kickin' in...

AUDISION- RED SKY 12” (mule electronic, germany)
11.98usd/6.07gbp/7.57eur/1210jpy (approx)

*This is the debut single from Audision (Tobias Schmid and Niko Tzoukmanis) on Mule Electronic -- two very deep original tracks and a massive dance remix from Roland Appel. Audision has released several EPs on Playmade and have spent plenty of time behind the DJ booth spinning music that has influenced their collaborative sounds: Basic Channel/Deepchord-style dub tracks, deep Detroit techno, hi-tech funk, early acid house. Together they are Audision and they believe in deep sound structures.

FORCE OF NATURE- REMIXED 12” (mule musiq, germany)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.20eur/1312jpy (approx)

*After the three single releases, one sampler single and their first official mix cd Force Behind the Power, Force of Nature come back with two very hot remixers Stefan Goldmann & Still Going. Stefan Goldmann updated the original track to a more clubby sound. It's for the fun of Ricardo Villalobos & Luciano. And Still Going (DFA) made an original track deeper and more atmospheric. It's reminiscent of early house or more deep stuff like The Orb or Thomas Fehlmann.

BUKADDOR & FISHBECK- LIVE IS LIFE 12” (my best friend, germany)
11.98usd/6.07gbp/7.57eur/1210jpy (approx)

*bukaddor & fishbeck's fourth ep on mbf is definitely the most stripped-down percussive record they have done so far. The beat phreak track "Live Is Life" is a bass-heavy hands-in-the-air monster. "Mr. Floppy" is much bolder and softer, but very percussive and funky with cool breaks and dynamic shifts which are all very well thought out. real dj weapons.

SAMMY DEE- PURPLEHUMMER/ULTRASTRETCH 12” (perlon, germany)
14.98usd/7.59gbp/9.47eur/1514jpy (approx)

*bukaddor & fishbeck's fourth ep on mbf is definitely the most stripped-down percussive record they have done so far. The beat phreak track "Live Is Life" is a bass-heavy hands-in-the-air monster. RYO MURAKAMI- DOWN THE SKY 12” (poker flat, germany)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.20eur/1312jpy (approx)

*Tokyo's Ryo Murakami presents Down The Sky, coolly influenced by old school house and recent European forays into night music. Ryo demonstrates a heavy aptitude for stripped-down futurism, with staccato, jilted beats joined by layers of padded synth structures, looming somewhere between light and darkness. Greek maestro Argy creates a stunning hi-tech remix, complete with dub-influenced chord stabs and tripped-out washes of delay. "Coke" is a stronger, peak-time groove that never lets up, with layers of spaced-out, pitching fx. Brain-tingling.

BOGDAN IRKUK AKA BULGARI- EVERYTHING IS CHANGING 12” (soul jazz, uk)
11.98usd/6.07gbp/7.57eur/1210jpy (approx)

*Top quality cosmic Italo-disco with a New York DFA/Morgan Geist edge. This is a limited edition 500 copies release on Soul Jazz Records. Previous releases on Sweden's Rollerboy label, this is the pseudonym of one of Europe's finest producers, so we are not allowed to tell you much about him!

RALPH SLIWINSKI- POX BOX 12” (sushitech, france)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.20eur/1312jpy (approx)

*Ralph Sliwinski who is known to most of us for his previous work on Hartchef Discos, Below or from his successful remix work for Mikael Stavostrand on Sushitech, brings us Sushitech 09. Over to the B-side and we have Johnny D, casting his magic over the track, and turning the original house track in to a more technoish track but still managing to keep the warm vibe of it. This track is already being played regularly by Loco Dice, Villalobos, 2000 And One, Oliver Ho and all the other leading DJs. Simply, a dancefloor killer!

MARC ROMBOY VS. CHELONIS R. JONES- HELEN CORNELL: THE REMIXES 12” (systematic, germany)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.20eur/1312jpy (approx)

*Two new versions of Chelonis' and Romboy's club hit, "Helen Cornell." 2000 And One Ibadan label owner Jerome Sydenham have produced a dub and a remix each. Full support by: Loco Dice, Jesse Rose, Laurent Garnier, Dubfire, Danny Howells, Gregor Tresher, Martin Landsky, D'julz, Hector Romero, Ralph Lawson, Sebo K. and many more.

SARAH GOLDFARB- PANENKA 12” (toys for boys, belgium)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.20eur/1312jpy (approx)

*The mysterious Sarah Goldfarb (Jean Vincent Luccini) has been raising hell for the last year or so with releases on Dumb Unit, Treibstoff, Curle, and a roof lifting remix for Christian Quast on Obsolete Recordings. However Luccini/Goldfarb has been passionate about house and techno since completing his studies in Cinema in 1994, a year that just a handful of people on the entire planet have any memories of.

THE MODEL- SECOND FOUNDATION 12” (underl_ne, uk)
12.98usd/6.58gbp/8.20eur/1312jpy (approx)

*Second release. Second book. Foundation. Underl_ne and The Model team up once more to provide the next slice of sci-fi techno for all those who want to get there: Terminus, Foundation's capital city. Deep space sounds and hypnotic grooves create the foundational sound atmosphere as The Model envisaged it. Five cuts that redefine the concept of sci-fi techno and herald the upcoming debut album by The Model on Underl_ne: Foundation and Empire.

COBBLESTONE- JAZZ INDIA IN ME 12” (wagon repair, canada)
11.98usd/6.07gbp/7.57eur/1210jpy (approx)

*shop favorite, restocked… Cobblestone Jazz has been performing live electronic music for five years together. The three members of the group are programmer Tyger Dhula, keyboardists Danuel Tate and Mathew Jonson. The nature of their music balances electronic composition with a live and moving element that results in the exploration of many different styles. Cobblestone is a bit of an anomaly in this day and age of studio refinement, opting to approach music from a performance perspective first, as opposed to recreating studio pieces for their live shows. A large part of this is due to the involvement of Tate, whose background as a jazz musician has led to a large emphasis on playing live. The group's influences range from jazz and dub to breakbeats and minimal techno, and many points in between. Likened by some to electronic whales singing to each other, the groove undulates and develops constantly over the course of each session. Both tracks are recorded and mixed in a live outboard setting. No pre-arrangement was done; the tracks are just improvised and mixed straight to tape. Both build and destroy dancefloors, capturing minds and feet, waking us up to the unique and unmistakable sound of Cobblestone Jazz.

SHAM SHAM- 99 HEARTS 12” (white label, usa)
9.98usd/5.06gbp/6.31eur/1008jpy (approx)

*From mysterious UK producer Sham Sham comes this nasty little one sided mash-up, a booty shaking, hands in the air collision of Architecture in Helsinki´s hit "Heart It Races" with Jay-Z´s now classic "99 Problems."
