PICKS OF THE WEEK

CITIZEN KANE- TIGHT: METRO AREA MIX 12” (disques sinthome, usa)
9.98usd/6.82gbp/7.61eur/891jpy (approx)

*Side A features an edit from Metro Area’s Darshan Jesrani called 'Tight!', an 80s disco jam stripped down and reworked. 'Path', the second track on Side A, is an obscure break. Side B features an afro-disco obscurity called 'Run' which has been reworked by Kane and was featured on his 'DJ History' mix. killer!

V/A- A TRIBUTE TO OUM KALSOUM CD (institut du monde arabe, france)
21.98usd/15.02gbp/16.77eur/1962jpy (approx)

*In June 2001, on the occasion of the second Music Festival, the Institut du Monde Arabe paid a resounding tribute to the great lady of Arab song. The same concert, an exceptional event, was then given as part of the 'Les Orientales Festival' at Saint-Florent-Le-Vieil. It brought together a new generation of performers from various Arab nations such as Karima Skalli (Morocco), Abir Nasraoui (Tunisia), and Riham Abdelhakim (Egypt), accompanied by the National Arab Music Ensemble of the Cairo Opera, conducted by Salim Sahhab. This album offers you live recordings of the best moments from the two concerts, as well as some of the most beautiful and moving songs associated with the 'Star of the East.'

IMANE HOMSY- LORD KANUN CD (institut du monde arabe, france)
21.98usd/15.02gbp/16.77eur/1962jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… Performed by Imane Homsy, kanun and vocal. The kanun is traditionally used to accompany singing. It repeats the musical phrase and is played with two fingers. Here, we see it in a new light: accompanist-interpreter-soloist on a par with any singer. The kanun as a 'complete' instrument, in fact, revealed in all its glory by Imane Homsy and the ten fingers technique developed by her, a technique that conjures up new ambiences and colors. The kanun has at last found the place it deserves at the heart of the classical Arab orchestra.

PARI ZANGENEH- THE SERIES OF MUSIC FOR YOUNG ADULTS: IRANIAN FOLK SONGS CD (ks, spain)
24.98usd/17.07gbp/19.06eur/2230jpy (approx)

*shop favorite now available as a beautiful cd, the vinyl is long gone… Absolute mega-rarity, an incredible discovery and the ultimate folk-psych artifact unearthed directly from Teheran! Female vocalist Pari Zangeneh recorded this really amazing album in 1976 with a full backing band, covering a number of traditional Persian folk songs and giving them a lovely psychedelic flavor. Beautiful strings, flutes, really charming and tasty drumming, some organ and orchestration, percussion. A truly fantastic album, and one of the rarest folk-psych records ever to file along other obscurities as Book of Am or Mellow Candle! Limited papersleeve CD reissue, beautiful mini-LP replica and only 500 copies.

V/A- OH GRAVEYARD, YOU CAN'T HOLD ME ALWAYS LP (mississippi, usa)
15.98usd/10.92gbp/12.19eur/1426jpy (approx)

*Compilation of hard-to-find gospel recorded in the 1960s & early 1970s. More mediative & well-produced material than the Life Is A Problem LP. Nice old school tip-on sleeves. Great stuff. Artists include: Mosby Family Singers, Straight Street Holiness Group, Laura Rivers, Rev. Lonnie Farris, Radio Four, Joe Townsend, White Family, Silver Quintette, James Carter & The Mighty Stars, Farris & Williams, Brother Willie Eason, Traveling Echoes, and Sensational Happy Travellers.

RICARDO VILLALOBOS- SEI ES DRUM 3X12” (sei’s drum, germany)
44.98usd/30.75gbp/34.32eur/4016jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… Ricardo Villalobos with his first 3x12" production as recording artist and actual record label programmer. SED might be a one time venture working completely solo, but one thing can already be said: it's one to remember. Four tracks right off his recent Fabric 36 compilation, plus three new bonus tracks. Each recording stands uniquely on its own but also works yet again in a subtle context with all other tracks. An artistic statement as well as pure dancefloor mayhem! One of the strongest packages that we received in a long time. Or in other words: 'authentic work of an artist, if not an authentic work of art -- and definitely worth a spin.' --Resident Advisor

GROUP BOMBINO- GUITARS FROM AGADEZ: MUSIC OF NIGER VOL. 2 LP (sublime frequencies, usa)
24.98usd/17.07gbp/19.06eur/2230jpy (approx)

*Group Bombino is the latest salvo from the Agadez music scene. Led by the guitar virtuoso Omara Mochtar (Bombino), the group's debut LP -- volume two in the Guitars From Agadez series, represents the latest chapter in the modern sound of the Tuareg revolution. As of 2008, the Tuareg rebellion is in full force again, and Bombino is in exile to parts unknown. Agadez has been cut off from the rest of the country. The only road that connects this legendary city with the rest of the country is littered with land mines and the only escorts are the military. This music and its messages of hope, justice, and desire for validation of the Kel Tamachek way of life ring louder than ever. Group Bombino are gaining mythic status in and around the Tuareg community for their incendiary live performances. Coming from the same scene as Group Inerane and sharing some of the same musicians, Group Bombino showcase both sides of the Tuareg guitar style. Side one features the "dry guitar" sound, an unplugged selection of songs sung among the dunes, camels and stars of the Tenere desert. Side two showcases the electric fury of the full band, a melding of heavy, psychedelic guitar heroics with a raw, garage sound, back beat percussion, all swirling in extended trance rock moves. Recorded live and unfiltered in Agadez and the surrounding desert in early 2007, with the band's equipment powered by generators and an unflinching dedication to the rebellion, Group Bombino's music transcends any influence and ignites the raw passion of its message to the outside world. This is a one-time pressing of 1,500 copies. Pressed on 180 gram vinyl and housed in a gatefold full-color jacket stocked with great photos of the musicians and liner notes by Hisham Mayet.

HARD ROCK AND PSYCHEDELIC

TOBRUK- AD LIB LP (cash box, spain)
29.98usd/20.49gbp/22.87eur/2676jpy (approx)

*Tobruk was formed by some North American guys living in Brazil, and this wonderful album got released in 1972 on the Cash Box label (sometimes you can see the album named as if Cash Box were its title). It's a pretty good psychedelic album with an astounding, original sound based in fuzz, organ, psychedelic effects and an eerie atmosphere. It's completely sung in English as well.

V/A- PAPRIKÁZZ FEL! BEST OF THE HUNGARIAN ROCKSCENE 1965-1971 2LP (grey past, netherlands)
44.98usd/30.75gbp/34.32eur/4016jpy (approx)

*surprise restock of this shop favorite… amazing compilation on the Grey Past label devoted to the Hungarian '60s freakbeat and psych scene. It's a superb double-album inside amazing triple fold-open sleeve art with band pics, liners and all the info you would like. The quality we'd expect from the label that brought you the Turkish Delights and Steam Kodok comps amongst others. Music ranges from raw freakbeat to superb eastern psych. No prog here. The Hungarian scene had a distinct sound and quality both in musicianship and in sound and arranging. The liners explain the great difficulties commie bands had to face playing their own brand of new music. This compilation will amaze many. Bands include: Illes, Dogs, Expressz, Omega, Echo, Liversing, Neoton, Metro, Pannonia, Hungaria and many more. Also included are previously unreleased tracks! Paprikazz Fell - The Hungarian Rockscene 1965-1971. A fantastic double-LP set housed in the most incredible gate multi-fold-out sleeve layout you have ever seen in your life! I'm sure!" Limited to 500 copies only.

V/A- WAKING UP SCHEHERAZADE: ARABIAN PSYCH NUGGETS FROM THE 60'S AND EARLY 70'S LP (grey past, netherlands)
27.98usd/19.13gbp/21.35eur/2498jpy (approx)

*Repressed, last copies… Vinyl compilation of Arabian garage psych nuggets from the late '60s and early '70s that have been hidden under the cultural burka for many many years, now surfacing in a sea of delight! Including the Sea-Dears (Lebanon '66), El-Abranis (Algeria '72), Morocco (Armenia '67), Kouroush (Iran '67), Nal Bonet (Egypt '66), Raks (Iran, '67), Kareem Issaq & Middle Eastern Rock. (various Arab Countries '67). From the same source that brought us acclaimed compilations like Juddy in Sky with Nazis, Steam Kodok and Turkish Delights.

CHICO MAGNETIC BAND- CHICO MAGNETIC BAND CD (nosmokerrecords, portugal)
24.98usd/17.07gbp/19.06eur/2230jpy (approx)

CHICO MAGNETIC BAND- CHICO MAGNETIC BAND LP (nosmokerrecords, portugal)
32.98usd/22.54gbp/25.16eur/2944jpy (approx)

*shop favorite now available on cd, along with a couple copies of the vinyl version restocked… Chico Magnetic Band's eponymous album, released by French Vogue subsidiary Box Office label in 1971, defines the term 'heavy psychedelia.' These bunch of freaks, led by Algeria-born Mahmoud 'Chico' Ayari, were clearly influenced by the Jimi Hendrix Experience but somehow they created a song of their own: violent, trashy, stoned as hell heavy psych featuring demented vocals, furious guitars, a loud rhythm section and mindblowing studio effects including phasing, backwards tapes, and weird and groovy electronics. Eight killer tracks including their insane fuzzed-out deconstruction of Hendrix's 'Crosstown Traffic' and cult classics like 'Pop Pull Hair,' 'Explosion,' and 'Pop Orbit.' This reissue includes a good number of bonus tracks (a total of 8 on the CD making this their complete recordings). Features an insert with full band story and rare photos. Edition of 600 papersleeve CDs.

ERKIN KORAY- 2 LP (nosmokerrecords, portugal)
32.98usd/22.54gbp/25.16eur/2944jpy (approx)

*First time-ever vinyl reissue of the third album by Turkish psych guru, Erkin Koray. Much more traditional sounding than his other, early to late '70s works, this is also an album that catches you at first listen. There's less guitar than usual here, yes, but it's a splendid set of ethnic Turkish traditional sounds with some occidental feel, with some real killer tracks on it.

STONEWALL- STONEWALL LP (tiger lily, usa)
15.98usd/10.92gbp/12.19eur/1426jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… Grey area exact repro of this killer raw hard rock LP originally released on the infamous tax-scam label Tiger Lily in 1974. Previously issued in the early '90s on a bootleg LP and later in truncated/altered form by Akarma. 180 gram virgin vinyl pressing, this is so far the definitive edition and it's a must in the '70s excess heavy guitar jamming canon. This impossibly rare album (only a handful of known copies) ranks among the top few hard rock albums of all. Punky, snotty vocals, loud guitars, powerful riffs, relentless organ and drums, tight, short songs without any wank factor... this has it all, along with an amazing amount of energy that keeps it from dragging the way the heaviest rock tends to. It really doesn't sound like anything else, and I imagine it would appeal just as much to punk fans as it would to blues-rock or heavy metal fans. The album is brief, with only eight short songs, and it goes by in such a breathless rush that you'll be begging for more. The key moment of this album to me is when they appear to be heading towards that album's first clichéd misstep -- a drum solo. Yet after a few seconds, the rest of the instruments come crashing back in unexpectedly, so much so that you can hear if fifty times and still not anticipate exactly when they'll return. There's genius here, and the funny thing is that I suspect it's entirely unintentional. Who were these guys and why didn't they record again? The thought that this album could have been lost to the world if those scant few copies hadn't ended up in the hands of knowledgeable collectors/dealers is tantalizing. If what may be the greatest hard rock album almost had such a fate, is it possible that the greatest album in some other genre is still lost somewhere in a warehouse, its creators unaware (as all Tiger Lily artists were) that their music had even been put on plastic at all? --Acid Archives.

EDISON ELECTRIC BAND- BLESS YOU, DR. WOODWARD CD (water, usa)
16.98usd/11.61gbp/12.95eur/1516jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… Originally released on Atlantic/Cotillion in 1970, the only album by this puffy-haired Philadelphia combo is a lost nugget which exemplifies the musical freedom of the late '60s, but looks toward the groovy and funky melodicism that would dominate the '70s. Village Voice critic Robert Christgau wrote 'Tight, melodic music that thrives somewhere in an uncharted region triangulated by rock, pop, and jazz. Beautifully engineered, too.' Members of the band went on to become successful session musicians, performing on essential recordings by Van Morrison, Bonnie Raitt, Maria Muldaur, and John Mayall. Co-produced by legendary jazz producer Joel Dorn. First time on CD. Detailed liner notes.

SOFT ROCK AND LIGHT PSYCHEDELIC HARMONY

COLIN BLUNSTONE- ONE YEAR CD (water, usa)
16.98usd/11.61gbp/12.95eur/1516jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… The debut solo album from Colin Blunstone, lead singer of legendary psych/pop group The Zombies, originally released in 1971. Produced by fellow Zombies Rod Argent and Chris White, One Year is classic baroque pop with lush string arrangements and Argent's unique keyboard sound. Featuring the hit 'Say You Don't Mind,' a number of Blunstone originals and a beautiful cover of Tim Hardin's 'Misty Roses.'

BOB NEUWIRTH- BOB NEUWIRTH CD (water, usa)
16.98usd/11.61gbp/12.95eur/1516jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… Until this 1974 album on Asylum, Bob Neuwirth was known as Bob Dylan's sidekick and co-author of Janis Joplin's 'Mercedes Benz'. With appearances by Rita Coolidge, Mama Cass, Don Everly, Richie Furay, Chris Hillman, Booker T., Kris Kristofferson, Ian Matthews, and Dusty Springfield among many others, this country-rock collection finds Bob Neuwirth sounding a bit like Willie Nelson on his original tunes and co-writing with Roger McGuinn and Kris Kristofferson. Original artwork. Contains liner notes. Remastered from the original tapes and on CD for the first time.

JACK PALANCE- PALANCE CD (water, usa)
16.98usd/11.61gbp/12.95eur/1516jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… Best known as a legendary actor, Jack Palance did record an album in 1969 for Warner Bros. that recalls the wacky country-rock music vibe of Lee Hazelwood's albums of the same time period. Recorded in Nashville with the usual studio cats, the album is a playful country-rock romp not unlike other late '60s Nashville recordings. Fans of Lee Hazelwood, Johnny Cash and Scott Walker will love this album. Featuring Palance's self penned classic song 'The Meanest Guy That Ever Lived'. A 20-page booklet with new and detailed liner notes (and rare photos) is included.

GREY AREA, AVANT GARDE AND NOISE

CHARLEMAGNE PALESTINE- SOUND 1 LP (alga marghen, italy)
33.98usd/23.23gbp/25.92eur/3034jpy (approx)

*As the title well underlines, Sound 1, electronic sonority is a starting point in Charlemagne Palestine's research for the Golden Sonority. Previously unpublished, this radical and fundamental work has now been released on LP record in collaboration with the New Media Dept. of Centre Pompidou (National Museum of Modern Art) in Paris for the first 'Oeuvres Sonores' event, December 15th, 2008. Charlemagne Palestine started to dream of an expressive, continuous, ever-moving, ever-changing sound-form; an enormous sonorous 3-dimensional sculptural canvas in mid-air, using electronically-produced sounds. At first, he began experiments with simple sine tone generators, emitting the purest sound waves without any overtones. Then, gradually, with access to Moog and arps, he constructed sounds using the sine/sawtooth/square wave oscillators in a fluid, ever-changing mix of adding or filtering overtones and white noise to create sonorities constantly changing timbres and weight. Palestine experimented in this way from 1964 till 1974 in NYC and then, in California. Finally, he assembled his own drone machine of 16 ultra stable oscillators designed by Serge Tcherepnin and 4 band pass filters designed by Donald Buchla. He would build up a sound, oscillator by oscillator, then add ever-so-slightly to the oscillator input, tiny increments of white noise that would gradually make the sounds thicker and thicker, until they were immense, sacred machines humming like gargantuan Tibetan bees. Charlemagne played them very, very loud, making all the room and objects in it resonate, while outside all was quiet and sleeping. He worked like a painter with a palette and a canvas and he mixed and added and mixed and added over, entire nights, mixing, adding, and then lying on the mattress and listening and fine-tuning. Finally, at a certain point, after several nights, the sonority seemed ready to record. He'd put on the tape, prepare the tape machine with the proper level as not to overload it, and record the texture. This 1-sided LP was issued in an edition limited to 500 copies. Includes a 25-page program booklet, including an essay by Charlemagne Palestine and artwork by John Giorno.

CHARLEMAGNE PALESTINE- STRUMMING MUSIC CD (new tone, italy)
19.98usd/13.66gbp/15.24eur/1784jpy (approx)

*restocked… 1995 CD reissue of one of the alltime classic artifacts of Minimalism. Originally issued on LP in the contemporary composer series on the legendary Shandar label. Charlemagne Palestine is probably the least known, and the most legendary, among the great masters of the American Minimal Music, but he is not, for this reason, less important. Differently from La Monte Young, Terry Riley, Steve Reich and Philip Glass, Charlemagne Palestine, after a first phase of intense research to definite the musical language that in the late seventies will be called Minimalism, preferred to dedicate his creativity in the visual arts field presenting very personal installation with exhibition in many important galleries getting a very successful response. This choice cut him out of the musical world, his carrier as pianist and composer was interrupted and he never succeeded in getting the public recognition his musical activity deserved. The music consists of a single track of approximately 45 minutes per solo piano played by Palestine. A composition very strong and intense, the acoustic sound of the piano, thanks to a great technique and a very strong physical force, becomes the sound of an entire Orchestra full of harmonics. From the historical point of view gives the opportunity to discover the music of one the pioneer of the minimal music.

FRANCO BATTIATO- FETUS CD (water, usa)
16.98usd/11.61gbp/12.95eur/1516jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… Franco Battiato moved into the 1970s on the crest of the progressive rock wave. This 1972 impossibly strange record inhabits that nether world of pop music, electronics, politics and experimental rock. Fetus is an album beyond all definition. It's a masterpiece of daring and wild risks that work every single time. Battiato takes us through eight uniquely super-detailed songs that tug at the heart strings as no other experimental record ever could. New liner notes by Jim O'Rourke.

FRANCO BATTIATO- POLLUTION CD (water, usa)
16.98usd/11.61gbp/12.95eur/1516jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… Franco Battiato's wonderfully lively 1973 concept album Pollution is an audaciously psychedelic album drawn from the space rock dimension with good portions of electronics and keyboard layers. Drawing heavily on the VCS3 synthesizer, Battiato and company (besides himself, three backing band members play synth as well) give Pollution an extreme electronic edge. With comparisons to Ash Ra Tempel, Faust, and Pink Floyd, Pollution was declared 'genius' by Frank Zappa. Extremely influential on the '90s Chicago post-rock mafia. Original artwork. New detailed liner notes.

GIOVANNI FUSCO- MUSIC FOR MICHAELANGELO ANTONIONI CD (water, usa)
16.98usd/11.61gbp/12.95eur/1516jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… Italian composer Giovanni Fusco scored many of the neo-realist films of Michelangelo Antonioni from the early 1950s through the mid-1960s and is known for creating subtle film scores using minimal instrumentation that well-complemented the situations on screen. Water collects the best of the soundtrack moments from Antonioni's L'Avventura ('The Adventure' - 1960), L'Eclisse ('The Eclipse' - 1962), and Deserto Rosso ('Red Desert' - 1964). Detailed liner notes.

GLOBAL SOUNDS

JOSEPH SPENCE- HAPPY ALL THE TIME CD (water, usa)
16.98usd/11.61gbp/12.95eur/1516jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… Born in the Bahamas, Joseph Spence created an idiosyncratic and inimitable guitar style rife with percussive and improvisatory vamps around staid hymns and Caribbean folk standards. He was a guitarist's Thelonious Monk, his growling vocal counterpoint and surprising inventions are one of folk music's great delights. A major influence on Ry Cooder, Taj Mahal, David Lindley, and many more. Produced by Paul Rothchild (the Doors and Butterfield Blues Band) for Elektra that originally released this album in 1964. Original artwork. Contains liner notes. Remastered from the original master tapes.

*shop favorite restocked… D-code and Dexterous are back with their business socks and once again deliver tracks so big they hardly fit on the record. First up is the long awaited VIP version of the earlier DP release Africa -- and if you liked the original, this time The Others decided to pour a gallon of muscle juice into their bass machinery and press the 'Make-Even-Bigger' button. Clever programming, heavy, bouncy and precise. Receiving huge support from Caspa & Rusko, Hatcha, and Mary Anne Hobbs on her BBC Radio 1 Experimental Show. 'Kind Of Blue': A breathing intro builds up nicely with some liquid sounding breakbeats towards the start of a warm and memorable pad theme. The track evolves nicely with lush sounds playing around the theme to make up a melody of melancholy. Further on, a nice signature sounding, midrange-cruising, bass line reminds you that this is The Others you're listening to -- a good example here of their diversity and production skills. 'Invasion': An eerie soundscape with an intense and hypnotizing hi-passed drum roller. The next thing you know, it drops and reveals the sound of a giant walking robot. The bassline and melodies are sophisticated in many ways -- it's bashing, it's swing and twisting -- this one slays any dancefloor it touches. 'Champagne Cocktails': This is a mean track right from the start, as the intro sets the mood straight away, only to drop into a hi-paced bass mayhem with The Others' signature written all over it. No mercy and not for the faint-hearted. Receiving support from Caspa, Hatcha, N-Type and Joe Nice, to name a few. Bag it while you can!

UNITZ- THE DROP 12" (dub police, uk)
12.98usd/8.87gbp/9.90eur/1159jpy (approx)

*shop favorite restocked… Another anthem from the massive Dub Police label. 'The Drop' is off the hinges! Having received massive amounts of airplay both on Rinse FM and Kiss FM as well as the live circuit, this is sure to fly off the shelves. London based DJ Unitz started DJing from age 8 and began producing from the age of 13 -- expect big things from this producer! Rinsed by Caspa, Rusko, DJ Orien, The Others, Mary Anne Hobbes, Subscape, Oris Jay & N-Type.

SCUBA- A MUTUAL ANTIPATHY 2X12" (hot flush, uk)
24.98usd/17.07gbp/19.06eur/2230jpy (approx)

*2008 release, vinyl version of the now-deleted cd. last copies...Decamping to Germany has had a profound affect on Paul Rose aka Scuba. Still running the prolific Hotflush and Scuba labels from his Berlin home with a little help from stateside Alex Incyde and a truly legendary international roster, this north London original has taken his imprint and sound undeniably global. Yet, whilst he has yet to adopt lederhosen and start making Euro trance, the techno/minimal core of the city has clearly opened up new possibilities for him. I could throw around more wild conjecture, but I bet being so far away from the London scene has probably allowed him to start confidently exploring new pockets of sound and structure. This long player, (in every sense -- the track segue continuously together) is an opulent, yet serious digression from any standard dubstep template, and all the more brilliant for it. The expansion of classic Scuba industrial crunch and groove, means his soundscapes have moved, with great fluidity, into further areas of electronica and techno embellishments, allows the beat to shift tempos and morph patterns, creating an album that ebbs and flows seductively drawing the listener into its magnetic power. Complete and assured, A Mutual Antipathy is dubstep alternative; the perfect balance between Burial's rusty emo-garage and Benga's full throttle techno.

JAZZSTEPPA- JAKIN/TWO 12" (hot flush, uk)
11.98usd/8.19gbp/9.14eur/1069jpy (approx)

*2008 release… Quite possibly Hotflush's biggest and most ground-breaking release to date, with two productions from newcomers Jazzsteppa. Formed in 2006 from Berlin, Germany, they fuse aspects of dub, glitchy electronica, jazz, dubstep and more, utilizing both live and pre-produced elements in their performances. Jazzsteppa consists of four major members: Barbie on trombone and MC duties, Mathieu Pe on trumpet and effects, Katalyze! on production and noise, and Xperimentalist on drums, effects and production. Expanding on the elements presented in their taster, 'One' featured on the Hotflush Presents Space and Time LP, this 12" starts with 'Jakin,' a more melodic piece, yet not lacking in deep bass, with meaty drums and solid assaults of live horns throughout. 'Two' takes it in a completely different direction, upping the BPM and the distortion, with more experimentation on drum patterns and plenty of bass, while still leaving room for a melodic finish.

SCUBA- HARD BOILED/TELL HER 12" (hot flush, uk)
11.98usd/8.19gbp/9.14eur/1069jpy (approx)

*2008 release… Hotflush Recordings' 20th release presents two tracks from Scuba's debut album, A Mutual Antipathy. 'Hard Boiled' is a cavernous, spaced-out, minimalist excursion, chewing up and spitting out the Berlin-influenced techno-centric slant on dubstep that has established itself in recent months. 'Tell Her' touches on the classic Scuba contrast of twisted percussion and floating melodies, glacial strings and deepest sub, but with a result that seems completely detached from anything to previously emerge from dubstep's melting pot of ideas and sounds. Enthusiastically received by Mary Anne Hobbs on Radio 1, and firmly in the boxes of Tayo, Laurent Garnier, and all the usual dubstep suspects, this innovative 12" is just a taste of what promises to be one of the most forward-thinking dubstep releases of the year.

TRG & DUB U- LOSING MARBLES 12" (hot flush, uk)
11.98usd/8.19gbp/9.14eur/1069jpy (approx)

*2008 release… The second release on Hotflush offshoot label HF2 comes in the shape of collaboration between the prolific Romanian producer, TRG, and a new name from across the pond, Dub U, plus a remix from one of the most exciting talents to emerge in bass music recently, 2562. The original is a 3:2 reducer, drenched in delays, crunching percussion and floating effects. This is the sound of two producers experimenting with contrasting influences, as sub-bass collides with techno sensibilities to create something a bit different. On the flip, 2562 produces another stormer to add to his already impressive discography. Adding his trademark garage influence to the minimized vision of the original, the result is a dubbed-out dancefloor killer which has been shaking out clubs from Bristol to Berlin.

ZOMBY- ZOMBY 2X12" (hyperdub, uk)
19.98usd/13.66gbp/15.24eur/1784jpy (approx)

*This unhinged slice of genius from Zomby will hot-knife your cerebrum. From the half-step of "Aquafresh" and "Gloop," to the scattered 2-step of "Spaceman" and "1 Up," through the stutterfunk of "Kaliko" and past the disintegrated rhythms of "Diamonds & Pearls," Zomby parades his skills. But just when you think you can pin these tunes down to the bleep-mania of the early arcade, he presents "Test Me For A Reason," a crackling emotive ache that's a big favorite with Burial.

PEVERELIST- ERSTWHILE RHYTHM 12" (punch drunk, uk)
11.98usd/8.19gbp/9.14eur/1069jpy (approx)

*restocked… Bristollian Hauntology infected polyrhythmic dubstep for 2007. Second release on Bristol's PunchDrunk imprint. Bloggers say -- Gutterbreakz: 'It's Tom's (Peverelist's) own productions that are really getting me excited right now... trying to find the common ground between minimal/hypnotic techno and dubstep.' KidShirt: 'Dubstep colliding w/ the sound of Frankfurt and Barcelona; rubbing up against it in a darkened corner, getting hot and hard and liking what it finds: 7 minutes of abstract blissss.'

HOUSE, TECHNO AND DISCO

V/A- UNDER MY DUB/IT WILL NEVER DUBBEN AGAIN 12” (balearic biscuits, usa)
11.98usd/8.19gbp/9.14eur/1069jpy (approx)

*Under my dub is an excursion into the land of clubby dub, a very pumping & thumping mix of a well known track by the glimmer twins and company. On the flip is t.h.'s it will never dubben again - spaced out electronics mixed with bits of dub effects & other weirdness.

V/A- RMXXOLOGY 3LP (delicious vinyl, usa)
19.98usd/13.66gbp/15.24eur/1784jpy (approx)

*rmxxology was born a year ago when Delicious Vinyl honcho Rick Ross met Peaches after a show. After agreeing that she would do a version of Tone Loc's "Wild Thing" they began brainstorming a dream team of artists to let loose on the Delicious Vinyl catalog. This led to the creation of The Delicious Vinyl All-Stars, a collective including prime-time players like Eminem and Diplo, as well as upstart French freakers Mr. Flash, Breakbot, and Don Rimini, and L.A. new jacks Cory Nitta (Pink Enemy/Philippians) and Bobby Evans (Brother Reade). Soon each of the Delicious Vinyl All-Stars was having their way with a Delicious Vinyl classic of their choosing...
As Rick Ross puts it, "Peaches is my co-curator on rmxxology. We reached out to people who know how to have fun exploring their influences and adding their own magic to something they love. That's the creative core of what the rmxxology project is about: Start with these dope raw materials and reassemble them into something new and fun, revitalizing the music for a new generation of fans!"
The album runs the gamut from Pink Enemy's tech-soul take on The Brand New Heavies' beloved "Never Stop" to Eminem's head-knock redux of Masta Ace "Slaughterhouse" and, the real stunner, Hot Chip's transformation of The Pharcyde's "Passin' Me By" into a sacred hymn. Rick Ross explains: " rmxxology represents a whole variety of styles. It's all about creating alternative versions of these classics, rather than remixing them expressly for the dancefloor. After all, the original songs always brought people to the dancefloor anyway!"
But don't fear: The dancefloor ain't being neglected. The third single from rmxxology, "Bust A Move" rmxxs, finds Diplo and Don Rimini manhandling the Young MC classic into club-savvy form. And then there's the album's lead track, Bobby Evans' "Freak-A-Zoid Robots (rmxxology Y Theme)" an homage to Afrika Bambaataa and old school electro that embodies the album's past-is-present spirit.

V/A- CELLULOID: THE ELECTRO YEARS, WHY IS IT FRESH? 3X12” (distance, france)
14.98usd/10.24gbp/11.43eur/1337jpy (approx)

*great triple pack from over 10 years ago (!) compiling some the best electro/rap sides from celluloid records… Titles include "The Roxy" by Phase II, "Crazy Cuts (long version)" by Grandmixer D St, "The Wildstyle (inst)" by Time Zone, "Grand Mixer CIU" by Infinity & Grandmixer D St, "Shango Message (edit/inst)" by Shango, "Une Sale Historie part 2 (male)" by Fab 5 Freddy, "DJ Mixers" by Konk, "Mean Machine" by D St & Jalal, "Escapades Of Futura 2000" by Futura 2000, and "Mega Mix II (Why Is It Fresh)" by D St.

SAMMY BANANAS- BRAIDS & FADES 12” (fools gold, usa)
11.98usd/8.19gbp/9.14eur/1069jpy (approx)

*DJ/producer/saxophonist Samuel "P.Nice" Bananas returns to the Fool's Gold fold with his second batch of ultra useful edits and remixes. Whereas the instantly-sold-out High Top Fades EP covered the 80s, Braids & Fades moves forward in time and finds young Sam reworking some classic 90s jams. On the A, it's Jomanda's "Got A Love For You" getting a Bmore overhaul on "Work Me(1)" and Salt N Pepa's "Shoop" chopped up over sublime squelching bass on "Get Set Go(2)." Flip it over for "Ooh Bop(3)" - an En Vogue rework, my favorite and the most instantly recognizable of the four joints - and "Ladies(4)." Chalk another one up for the Fool's Gold team.

FOUR COLOR ZACK & PRETTY TITTY- SING SING BREAKS 12” (fools gold, usa)
11.98usd/8.19gbp/9.14eur/1069jpy (approx)

*The Pacific Northwest duo of Four Color Zack and Pretty Titty prove that it's not the size of the ship, it's the motion of the ocean on their new EP of fast and dirty party breaks for Fool's Gold. These tracks all clock in around two minutes, but they'll leave you feeling like you just absorbed a cannon blast of glitter and confetti to the chest. On his side, Zack pits Electric Light Orchestra against Trillville on "FCZ x ELO(1)" and takes it back to Jock Jams days on "Boom(2)." Speaking of 90s stadium jernts, Mr. Titty incorporates some C&C with Gorilla Zoe's "Hood N*gga" on "JB RIP(3)" and revs up some instantly recognizable synths on "Droppin It(4)." FGR-011, if yer counting...

KAVINSKY- BLAZER PIC-DISC 12” (fools gold, usa)
14.98usd/10.24gbp/11.43eur/1337jpy (approx)

*If legend is to be believed, Kavinsky is the world's best-known zombie DJ and musician. Others will tell you he's the alias of Vincent Belorgey, protege of French beatmaster Mr. Oizo, friend and tourmate of Daft Punk and the Ed Banger crew. Whichever story you choose to believe, Kavinsky's new EP for Fool's Gold -- his first domestic release -- is a total no-brainer. Updating vintage Moroder and Miami Vice sounds with a French touch, Blazer features three of the possibly undead producer's finest cuts from his import releases -- "Testarossa Autodrive(1)," "Dead Cruiser(2)," "Grand Canyon(3)" -- and seals the deal with the exclusive unreleased gem "1986(4)." The whole thing is wrapped up in a spiffy Ferarri tire pic disc designed by (who else?) Dust La Rock, and is strictly limited to 1,000 copies.

KING & HOUND- WESSEN DAS? 12” (golden goose, usa)
11.98usd/8.19gbp/9.14eur/1069jpy (approx)

*King & Hound have taken the knife to 2 more obscure disco/rock rarities...Spliced and diced for today's dancefloors with the utmost respect for the originals, you won't find these edits dripping in modern effects or combining different sources. What you will find is tasteful selection and careful rearrangement. For this second release, "Wessen Das" will fit well with lovers of the popular cosmic sound and appreciators of Germany's high production value. Brooding bass and drums lead to a burst of cinematic keyboard glory before coming back down to earth. Side B is a UK punk funk workout that draws heavily on afrobeat for inspiration. King (James Glass) is a New York-based serious collector/DJ of quality dance music encompassing everything from soul-inflected disco rarities to drugged up Baldelli cosmic classics whilst Hound (DJ Garth) owns San Francisco's lauded Grayhound label. - phonica

KING & HOUND- LIFE IN TOKYO 12” (golden goose, usa)
11.98usd/8.19gbp/9.14eur/1069jpy (approx)

*New from the Cali duo King & Hound - super tight re-edits of new wavers Japan's "Life in Tokyo" b/w 52nd Street's "Twice As Nice" another new wave club hit from back in the day (huge at the Paradise Garage). Another quality release. - phonica

DIPLO- BLOW YOUR HEAD 12” (mad decent, usa)
11.98usd/8.19gbp/9.14eur/1069jpy (approx)

*diplo’s first proper solo release on Mad Decent is major. He finally delivers his version of the JB classic ‘Blow Your Head.’ We first heard this mutant-half breed-mongoloid a couple years back on a Mad Decent Radio mix, but it's been under wraps since. Wicked wicked drums is all I have to say. ‘Must Be A Devil’ has a spaghetti western feel about it, another one of Diplo's strange concoctions that creeps into your brain. On the flip we get four remixes of ‘Wassup Wassup’ featuring rising bmore vocalist rye rye. I think dj sega takes the honors amongst the big names (crookers, bart bmore), watch for this kid. -Turntable Lab

OF MONTREAL- ID ENGAGER 12” (mad decent, usa)
11.98usd/8.19gbp/9.14eur/1069jpy (approx)

*Mad Decent hook up with funky indie kids Of Montreal for a pair of remixes from Diplo and DJ Sega. Diplo's Mad Decent mix adds some much needed African rhythm flavour to the original version, which is tucked away on the B-side, and DJ Sega pumps it up for the party crowd with a B-More compatible rerub. -boomkat

V/A- THE BRICK BANDITS 12” (ol’ head, usa)
11.98usd/8.19gbp/9.14eur/1069jpy (approx)

*Longtime Holler associate Dirty South Joe's Ol' Head Records co-presents this loaded EP with Diplo's Mad Decent label as Jersey's Brick Bandits unleash six extra-strength no-frills Baltimore club tracks. A-side features DJ Sega's "Colours(1)" with the robot voice repeating "I love the different colours, all the different colours...," plus DJ B-Stee's straightforward club rework of Daft Punk's "Robot Rock(2)" and Tim Dolla's "Number Advisory(3)," a party break with hype vocals just counting it off ("one! two! three! four! one! two! three! four!"). Flip it for DJ Tameil's "Shotgun Buck(4)" (shotgun blasts and Nintendo sounds!), DJ Rob3's wailing "The Chase(5)," layered with police sirens and 90s house key stabs, and Mike V's mellow "Feelings(6)."

V/A- RANDOM RAP CLASSICS VOLUME ONE: THE HIP HOP WHICH TIME FORGOT! 2LP (random, usa)
19.98usd/13.66gbp/15.24eur/1784jpy (approx)

*The hip hop which time forgot! Over the years much of the neglected hip hop one-offs and obscurities from the mid-eighties thru early nineties has begun to be re-appraised, as hard-core collectors like DJ Shadow, Freddie Fresh, Edan and DJ Ivory amongst others have unearthed and archived lost gems and forgotten classics. Collectively known by the much abused term ‘random rap’, there’s no strict definition of what should be included, and what shouldn’t – from completely unknown privately pressed obscurities, to neglected b-sides from artists who may have even managed a ‘proper’ deal back in the day. Here we have the same mix, with the first incarnations of better known names such as Naughty By Nature, Hard Knocks and Double X Posse (The New Style, Three The Hard Way and M.C Sugar Ray, respectively), alongside those artists lost completely in the midst of time, such as M.C Price & DJ Double Trouble and M.C Gee Que. A throwback to when 12” vinyl ruled, before MTV and hip hop radio – don’t sleep second time around!!!

But, think on this, what if you wгote а catchieг poѕt title?
Ι аin't saying your information is not good, however suppose you added a headline that grabbed folk'ѕ attentiοn?
І mean "NEW ARRIVALS/RESTOCKS FOR FRIDAY, JANUARY 16" iѕ a little plaіn.

Υоu ought tо glance at Yahoo's front page and see how they create news headlines to grab people to click. You might add a related video or a picture or two to grab readers interested about everything've wгitten.
Іn my opinion, it might mаke your posts a lіttle bit more interesting.
